These girls have such strong vocals and I was surprised to realise, I really enjoyed Pharita's voice a little more technically.
I worry that YG is instilling some bad habits when it comes to belting. Those tight piercing nasal type of belts can be hard to listen to over a long time. Thank GOD Winter stopped doing that, I hope these two find a nice mix also. Ahyeon more so.
I'd LOVE to see them sing some traditional korean OST type songs to widen their phrasing vocabulary cos their voices are beautiful but lean too heavily in trendy Westernised singing habits that I personally find annoying at times lol. This is typical of YG though.
Either way I stand by my statement of Babymonster being the strongest 5th gen group vocally.

2024-12-20 18:37:34 +0000 UTCYeahh the clips side by side doesn't show much difference although I think the newer one has waaay more reverb and polish but it could be their tones too it's hard to tell. Taeyeon's sounds like the sound isn't travelling as far. Yeah i'd loove to see Rami here.

2024-12-20 11:43:50 +0000 UTCyg needs to drastically change their sound to more r&b sounding songs, they could be like the korean flo if they rlly locked in. not many kpop groups focus on harmony and yet these girls do it live effortlessly. the yg sound can stay within those lines too to an extent, r&b and hip hop coexist… they just need a balance. idk why they haven’t considered any of this with all the soulful live performances the girls have put on.

2024-12-20 11:42:12 +0000 UTC7:14 lowkey it doesn't seem like there's a ton of extra processing with the clips side by side, just a tiny bit more than b4. imo, i think it has to do more with the nasality, thin tone, and forward placement of these singers because taeyeon is decently chesty with her mix, which brings in that warmth and raw feeling. Especially with them being young, the brightness is still present. i think if the show brought rora and rami, it would be easier to tell how processed the voices as they're more throaty and chesty. it's reminiscent of how winter used to struggle from the same thing in her earlier days as she was so incredibly forward, creating that very piercing tone, but now she's bolder with different placement/vowel shaping. edit: just saw what you said at 10:20 LOL yeah she's not as far up there anymore and when she is, her technique is sm better than the constant pushing forward back in savage era

2024-12-19 17:00:01 +0000 UTCI wholeheartedly agree with you on the piercing high notes, it’s fine for like 1 maybe 2 notes but anything more could put people off. but luckily this is their first year as idols so i’m looking forward to them dropping the piercing sound to a more full and warm high notes (similar to what you said about winter doing the same thing but now she switched up, im assuming that comes with vocal maturity? i could be wrong) but yeah I agree with you on this. overall it’s a known fact BM have very strong vocalists but there’s always room for improvement from every artist! 💕 thanks for the review friend!
