TAEYEON Letter to myself recording

KING TAEYEON REIGNS.

The vocals here were FUCKING insane.

Hearing her have more strength in her belts shows she's in a healthier space physically and mentally here I suspect.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. I WISH these vocals were on a song I adored man but it's FIIINEEE, she deserves to expand her catalogue and do genres she loves.

Enjoy!

The company actually wanted the title to be disaster, not blur

Tbh she was in her worst state when the oddie tour concert, she was so exhausted since the prep of invu+promotion overlap with prep of forever1+promotion not to mention she got covid + straight filming for smtown new year concert one day after her recovery literally, she was so crazy tbh in the 2022-2023. She was not in the good state also few days before the concert start she was sick and as far as i remember she was not fit even in her day1 seoul concert. She was too thin and exhausted herself physically and mentally. Thank God in 2024 she finally put herself first, taking break, relaxing and even able doing a long vacation in abroad. She got better & healthier & hopefully happier. ❤️

I LOVE that!!

She said on Hyoyeon’s show that she was trying really hard to eat well and gain weight to prep for her album because she needed it for more stamina - so you’re spot on!

I HOPE SO TOO!!

Koko3op

yes I also noticed she uses less nasal in her mix and belts on this album! And those open upper belts??? Hello??? To me her best vocal approach lies around 2016-2017 (around the same time when she did Butterfly Kiss concerts), but I am digging this new vocal era of Taeyeon. I am excited to hear how she will sound live on her tour next year. I hope you can see Taeyeon live soon!

Thank you so much I will! Yeahh I wonder what changed her plans but I hope the full album comes in the spring/summer time!

Koko3op

Yeah, I agree too! She has been changing the way she sings and her techniques are amazing too. She said she never stopped taking vocal lessons, which is one reason she is developing more than ever. She mentioned that she was supposed to release a full album this year as she has been prepping for it but due to unexpected things, she had to release a mini one to make up for it. But the process of the full album is still there so it might be in 2025. this mini is not bad but not for me. I would prefer the mini To X album over this but the A Letter to Myself song is a song I can relate to emotionally. I can see why she fought this song to be the main song for this mini-album. Its funny how the company wanted blur to be the main one lol. she already released the live version of the main song and blur live ver is coming tomorrow so you should check them out together! and thank you for the reviews that you have been doing overall :) keep up the good work!

PLEASE!!!

Ha I love that!! And yes it makes sense how much she pushed herself.

Koko3op

heavy on the wishing these vocals were on good songs lol she sounded great on this mini but i didn't like any of the songs *sigh* i need an album like purpose pls

She’s been talking about how this year has been a difficult one which is why she had to take a step back from music and really take a break. Which makes sense because 2022 was INVU and Forever 1 promotions straight into her tour in 2023 where she admits to stretching herself too far and anyone would be tired. So hearing her sound so full and energetic and she mentioned how she had to bulk up for this album, really warms my heart because she sounds she’s in a healthier place overall and twice as good because I really like this mini. Letters to myself on initial listen i thought was good not one of my favorites but after being stuck in the hell that is LA traffic and singing along to this song plus I love this behind recording, me and letters to myself are in a very good place and we understand each other even better now.

She's masterful as hell!!

Koko3op

What impresses me the most of how much control she has and that she live comfortably in those high ranges and lows as well

Tim Nguyen

Yes you are right! It's super clear and honestly I think weight and her mental state plays a part. We don't know what was going on but during the Odd of love concert she was really thin.

Koko3op

This is a theory I have. Her technique changed when she started recording the INVU. Everything was very nasaly and her upper range was tighter. It was very evident in her "Odd of Love" tour and her voice sounded very tired. That tour, although had its moments, was a tough time for her vocally. I think she's more used to her newer approach now and it shows particularly when she belts higher. Like you mentioned, she has found her balance and the nasality in her midrange is not as present as it was in her INVU and To X albums. There is a ping to her upper notes that wasn't there before but without the prominent nasality. All this to say, I'm not a pro voice person or whatever and I can barely sing, but I hear what I hear. I hope they release recordings for all the songs on the album.
