His personality may be my favourite surprise on any of these episodes.

He's INSANELY loveable, open and vulnerable. I feel like he's GENUINELY a good person with a good heart and I think he truly deserves the world.

I did speak in detail about what I would like from his vocally and to summarise, I'd love for him to have that softness and vulnerability in his vocal also. He is VERY technical and seems to really act out his singing but I don't believe that's ALWAYS required. For some it's probably what draws them to him but for me I want you to get lost in the song and let your voice soar in a relaxed manner.

Overall I think this was a great episode for him with great song choices too!

Enjoy!

Yes you are completely spot on. Also could you please use paragaraphs so this is easier to read? Thank you!

I love Hui's tone but, as many other people have said, it's very clear he's insecure. On one hand I get it; if I had those vocal skills and sacrificed that much (constant competition shows, helping take care of Pentagon when the Hyuna/Dawn thing happened, dealing with CUBE, producing for my own group AND others, etc.) I would also think it's a me thing and that I caused myself not to be popular, whether it be from looks, height, my work, or personality. All of which would make me incredibly insecure. On the other hand, I wish I could shake him and tell him that hey, relax, people will be more drawn to you and you'll feel more comfortable when you aren't always stressed. Let's be honest too - he's a male idol in his 30s. Basically every kpop idol spends their teens and 20s building up a fanbase and praying they create a sizable one, so that when they get older, as their fans gradually dwindle as they themselves start having more important priorities like work or spouses or children, the idol themselves still have a solid support system even with less fans. He's fighting an uphill battle to regain popularity. Add onto the fact that you can also tell he's really eager to do good, and I'd argue he's also just a little bit naive, it's all so sad. I hope he takes some time and comes back with something that feels more like him. I also had this issue with his Hmm-Bop album; it felt like a compilation rather than his personal story or style. If you haven't heard his song 'Navigation' (it's a song he created on a sort of producing competition show called Breakers), it's the song I genuinely think sounds the most like him, and when it comes on at night it leaves me pondering. The song felt like him searching for himself and at the end understanding he'd be alright and he's full of hope - hence the title. It's not a ballad or anything like that, so I would recommend you check it out genuinely. I hope he finds himself from back then, pre-enlistment, again.

N'aawww

Honestly for me I think when he got back from the military he became a little self conscious. He feels very different pre military and post military. When he was on Breakers(I think that's the name), he was way more confident than now. It's like someone took all of his energy

YESS I was gonna say that too!! It's definitely a reflection of the difficulties he's faced for SURE! I agree. Yess Mujin's choices ATE!!!

I enjoyed this so much more than I expected, bc tbh Hui's voice tires me out after a song or two (I think all the things you mentioned definitely contribute to that feeling). But as you pointed out, his personality is just so golden and honest, which made the episode so much more enjoyable. There's a reason so many of the other contestants liked him when he was on Boys Planet! Separately from Hui, for some reason this ep reminded me again of what a good ear Mujin has and how selfless he is when he sings duets---especially when they sang that Brown Eyes song together, I wanted to shake him (out of love ofc) for those harmony choices, they were so good!!! Mujin has a sharpness to his voice that also tires me out sometimes but I LOVEEEEEE him in duets. I wonder if Hui sounds so in his head all the time is because of how up & down his career had been. Obviously Hui has been in the industry for a minute, but based on what I've seen of his personality I could see him feeling constantly insecure & anxious about staying relevant. He's had some big wins here and there but it seems like he's still feeling like he needs to prove himself and maybe the only way he thinks he can do that is by presenting himself "perfectly" as much as possible? Just my theory....lol

As a gidle fan, I know of Hui cos he was always a supportive senior to them, along with most of Pentagon. As the producer/writer for Pentagon, he always showed encouragement towards Soyeon producing for gidle as well. Cube really had that self-producing tradition going on at that time with BTOB, Pentagon, Gidle. Always been sad how Pentagon's momentum never really recovered from losing Dawn. Hui is such an accomplished producer/writer as well, which is something kpop needs more of. Perhaps, he just lacked that ability to draw attention, which is really needed when you are under a limited agency

Haha yeahh makes a lot of sense!!

your criticism about him being too technical of a vocalist surprised me immensely cus ive never heard that about him before? but now that i think about it, its definitely more of a solo thing—when hes in the group he gets to be a lot more lax since he leaves most of the crazy high parts to the other main vocalist (jinho, ex-sm the ballad) whos usually described as the technical vocalist in pentagon, whereas if hes doing solo promotions he feels like he has to do the same thing all alone. but pentagon in general are definitely more of a live performance, festival type of group rather than a sit down quietly and sing kind of group lmao. hui lovesss doing loud, flashy performances so i imagine he was stressing on what exactly he should be showing us for this kind of mellower setting 😭 anyway thank you for the reaction, i enjoyed it!

You always get it!! It's a lot of drama. Kinda reminds me of Tamar Braxton too, love her in small doses but can never reeaaally lose myself to her singing

The way I was thinking of Sohyang too is wilddd!! They have this try-hard-mannerism that puts me off in this kind of setting and it seems overdone bc I just know some things, they have technically mastered and don't require all of these expressions. So it's always like ok I get it you are good. Need a middle ground between deadpan artists like Anton and Taeyeon and this
