Added 2024-10-26 20:08:33 +0000 UTCSimilar issues with triples here, the vocals leave a LOT to be desired. Yunah has moments though that shine but overall the laid back vocal delivery just starts to get a bit empty after a while.
The production is pulling it's weight though which is fantastic but still, just makes a lot of new gen music sound interchangeable between artist since they sing so similarly.
The title track is okay, bit safe but the opening track was great!

Will say, it read pretty offhanded to even mention the point about the members teeth and especially so without an effort to understand the concept. It colors your view of the group in an uncomfortable way beyond what's shown up in your critique of the lineup.

2024-10-28 14:08:37 +0000 UTCYk whenever you talk about the uniformity of voices and how interchangeable vocalists are nowadays in a lot of new kpop groups I can't help but remember your scorching hot TWS reaction where you hated the song with a passion (and I fully agreed 100% and left a harsh comment in agreement and cackled at the overly-defensive stans fighting with you in the comments). Not only is it the lack of distinctive vocalists, it's the fact that idols with horrendous vocal tones are debuting more often. Plus, at least with the previous kpop generations, those that sounded like goats would be stuck in the position of rap-singing a line or two awkwardly in the middle of the song before a more skilled rapper did something (think of Sehun from EXO; not that his voice sounded like a goat per say but he is not a skilled vocalist whatsoever and he was relegated to dancing and one talk-line per song) - nowadays it's not that common to have those short awkward snippets in songs so those types of idols have nowhere to 'get their lines'. Instead of forcing them to reach the bar or just letting them go, the bar for the whole group is lowered as autotune/song manufacturing/and mixing kills any distinction and songs are intentionally produced without vocal highlights. Mixed in with the clear focus on dancing and less on finding actual SINGERS, this is what we get. A Cupid knock off, a catchy one at that I'll agree, but a knock off nonetheless. Still disappointed, and this really didn't do anything for them after they got dragged through the mud for their encores during the Magnetic era. You'd think after facing that much controversy the producers or management would make them show off their singing as a way to curb the hate or make something with a slightly stronger pulse.

2024-10-27 16:23:38 +0000 UTCPersonally I really liked the album, I find it quite fun and the production is not bad but the songs are too short and lack depth. It’s not really the type of musical project I prefer but despite all I listen to it constantly since its release. I see a lot of potential in them and I like the evolution of enhypen so seeing that they are under the same label I am particularly excitable to see what they will become in 1 or 2 years.

2024-10-27 15:08:18 +0000 UTCThis is why I wanted it to be clear that it's not a specific HYBE group issue and though you did say this is not directed at me I can feel a shady subtext and defensiveness here that I would like to address either way. The sound that's common nowadays is not specific to HYBE though I'd argue newjeans' influence and popularity played a big part in setting the scene for what vocal styles will become popular. I don't remember if I mentioned it here in this reaction also but this is a similar issue that I had with RESCENE, Triples, LOOSSEMBLE, ARTMS and ILLIT all being interchangeable sonically/vocally for the most part and though yes ALL groups are manufactured, some come across way more artistic and experimental than others as we know. And to your last point, that's kinda the issue. You shouldn't HAVE to follow a group to be able to distinguish them easily imo in the grand scheme of things.

2024-10-27 15:05:48 +0000 UTCI love them and the line-up. Even if certain girls made the group, people would still complain simply because of the company they are from. I like two groups from Hybe, but it feels like Hybe, in particular, gets scrutinized more for things. Sometimes, I find people hypocrites (not saying you are, but overall in K-pop) when it comes to certain things, especially vocals. People pick and choose and are not consistent. Anyway, I understand why they went with Cherish because I don't think they wanted ILLIT to get pigeon-holed. Magnetic, Cherish, and their mini albums give me pink, glittery sparkles with a touch of Sailor Moon vibes. It just gives me an energy boost. I also feel they are easy to distinguish individually and in the group. They are just a bunch of goofballs who love to perform, and I believe their stages are very good. If you don't follow them like that, you won't see it, but I think it's like that for all groups people don't follow. You can see the growth in them from their debut to now. All K-pop groups are manufactured, and you find the group you click with.

I wonder how they’ll distinguish themselves from the pack in coming years, or if they’ll even be able to. (Spoiler alert: I really hope they do. lol I can’t help it, I like them.) There’s a lot of room for growth and I’m praying Hybe gives them the freedom and space to do so. OH! And I didn’t feel disappointed by the title or the album? But that could be because my expectations were unfortunately low- mainly due to their age and Hybe’s poor management of ggs of late 😬 I will never be as disappointed by a groups CB as I was by Le Sserafim’s. Those girls need a win- A SOLID WIN.

2024-10-26 22:55:45 +0000 UTCI found the album just okay, nothing to write home about. I do wonder though if the huge backlash ILLIT was facing influenced BELIFT to go with a safer sounding song. Since magnetic was such a huge hit the bar was set extremely high for a first comeback. I think “Cherish” is cute but I don’t really see it in the same realm as Magnetic. I feel like a better version of tick-tack would have followed magnetic well.

2024-10-26 20:56:07 +0000 UTCThe title track and whole album was a bit disappointing for me, but I did find myself singing the title's chorus days after watching the mv and the song has definitely grown on me. I was happy that Yunah got more time to shine in this comeback it felt like. I love her vocal tone so much and the depth it adds to some of Illit's songs is very much needed.

2024-10-26 20:50:09 +0000 UTCI agree that the vocals are kind of a killer for me. Everything feels very uniform, both between them as vocalists and from track to track. I don't think anybody's particularly carved out a lane and strong personality for themselves and it doesn't feel like the songs are making much use of them in the sense that the producers can go "oh, this is a no-brainer Moka part" or whatever, which is kind of what I feel like you need for a group like this. Iroha gets the closest for me and she's also the one I've gravitated towards the most on stage (and I do think their dancing/choreo is generally more interesting than the music), but overall they're just kind of a group where I always leave feeling a bit frustrated and like there's more in there somewhere and it shouldn't take moving heaven and earth to get at it.
