FIFTY FIFTY Love Tune EP

Welllllll!!

One thing this company does very well is find a sound that WORKS. This very much feels like a continuation of "cupid" sonically. Even gagged me a couple times lool.

The last song felt a little out of place but also was the most in your face vocally so I'm not too mad ad it's inclusion.

Happy that Chanelle's debuted at least because she's a very talented girl, her dancing was eating too!

What did you think? I understand they're pretty much being boycotted elsewhere.

I enjoyed SOS, and the rest of the songs were pretty good too. Their overall style feels a bit too cute/airy for my taste, and I generally don’t gravitate towards that sound, (basically most girl groups). Twice is probably the only exception. I actually liked the last song, Gravity, since it wasn’t too cute or airy. Since I don’t really pay attention groups outside of my faves these girls aren't boycotted for me. While the album isn’t exactly my style, 'SOS' is nice, and I could see myself playing it in the background while working or something.

Fifty fifty without the original girls doesn’t work for me. They really had lightning in a bottle with the original vocalists and I feel like the fifty fifty sound is no longer instantly recognizable like it used to be, no matter how skilled the new vocalists are. It’s a shame the company pushed the girls to the brink with their negligence — Saena and Aran’s stories of their declining health and severe anxiety reminded me a lot of the Loona girls’ testimonies, but I don’t see the same credibility extended to Fifty Fifty. I see a lot of comments online trying to minimize their allegations of abuse and make it seem like the original girls were foolish or just complainers, and I have to say… when the CEO of the company is being supported by dozens of other CEOs (known for mistreating their idols and treating them like commodities) and the girls are being ridiculed by the public that maintains the status quo of docile, compliant idols, there should be some alarm bells ringing. It hurts me a bit to see people automatically siding with the authority figure and excusing mistreatment just because they buy the CEO’s story of supposedly putting his last dime into fifty fifty. We should always be looking for better treatment of performers, not looking to explain away harm. Just my take. The departed girls look like they’re doing well and I hope they also have a comeback and retain some of that momentum they had. It makes me sad to see this same story repeating of members leaving or suing and fading into obscurity.

OG lineup vs new 5050, imo, slight upgrade as far as total package goes (I don’t remember the original lineup dancing like this) But you’re right about the original sound because Aran had a special, deeper tone that I think defined the Cupid sound. SOS was definitely Cupid 2.0. It makes sense and I’m okay with that. I liked it a lot; it definitely has a popular western sound if that makes any sense. Chanelle was a great addition. Yewon’s sound is great too! Don’t forget she was also on RU Next. I’m kind of over the cursive style of singing but it’s a group effort so I won’t hold it against them. Haha. This album had a very similar sound to their first one. It made me wonder if this was something meant for the OG lineup but then shit hit the fan. My hope is that for their next release they try to make a new sound for the new lineup. I’m not looking for a drastic change but something that I can tell that they’re moving from their success of Cupid. Now that they’ve gotten SOS out of their system it’s time to try something else to compliment the new cast. END of ramble.

*You should do your own research on the controversy* From what I remember reading the past fifty fifty members were fed misinformation about their company/managment from a third party, and one of the girls also claimed they had medical issues the company wouldn’t let them take the time off for and had to work through it anyway. They ultimately decided to leave the company but last minute, Keena the blonde rapper, decided to stay in the company and ultimately Fifty Fifty. She reconciled with the company and the company offered the original girls a chance to come back as well but they turned it down. *not sure if this part is true* The three past members sued the company but lost and owe the company A LOT of money for the effort they put into the girls. I saw Korean comments as this was all happening saying “the past members ruined their own reputation. They’ll never be idols again”. They’re harsh out there 😭😭 it’s a shame because I really enjoyed the original Fifty Fifty member lineup but I’m still going to support the new girls and by extension the group itself. I saw such promise with those girls. 😬
