NMIXX - Fe304:STICK OUT Review (they need to change these titles Chile)

WELLLLL...

I kinda love when shit like this happens cos I'm in no rush to listen to any of these songs again but I lOVE that this is the direction they're headed in!

They look like they're sitting in this identity AMAZINGLY. They're exuding way more star quality also. The songs don't do much for me at all, not much hooks and there's a lot of hip-hop foundations that don't offer much variations but I can't lie they made its work.

I would've LOVED A mixx up on see that like they did with Dash but it's fine.

Enjoy!

I think I would’ve enjoyed this album if it had been sung completely acappella . Those versions were so much more palatable for me.

Love Hoseok

I have, of course I would lol

Koko3op

Was wondering if you're gonna react to their Tiny Desk Korea?

J

I agree, I think this is a great direction for them. They really are coming into their own. It’s been a nice journey to watch. They’re getting more comfortable with themselves, and it’s starting to shine through their performance.

Yesss I wish SICKUHH was long. These short songs feel soo anticlimactic !!

Koko3op

Thank you so much Andrew!!

Koko3op

this is why youre one of my FAVOURITE reactors. You're just so mature and aware in the sense that if something isnt for you, you can admit that but not take away from the talent at all. You can still analyse everything as well done despite not even liking it and thats honestly really admirable!

Love this!! Yeah I think I need to hear See that? without the MV and see if I'll feel differently as someone else mentioned! Glad we agree on the album rating !

Koko3op

Oooo this is a good idea. Yess Jiwoo is standing out with the blonde!

I think this EP introduced a lot of interesting sounds for them to play with, specifically the first 4 tracks. Moving On and Love is Lonely do nothing for me. Love is Lonely kinda reminds me of Titanium, but it doesn't reach the same peaks so I think my ears were expecting it to go places it didn't. I think the chorus for See That feels a bit awkward, the repeated parts. The way they perform the last chorus sounds better overall compared to the ones before that. It has a bit more attitude so I wish they would have use that chorus as the guide for the rest of them. I think the "change up" part for See That starts at 1:14 but they say something different this time. But it isn't a big shift sonically and is fairly short so maybe it comes off a bit weaker. It feels brighter than the rest of the song and never shows up again. Also I remember them marketing the song as borrowing elements from country, but on first listen I was confused about where those elements were in the song. On re-listen, it's definitely in the "change up" part. SICKUHH needs to be longer because it was building nicely. At times it reminds me of Beyonce's Flawless and SHINee's Alive. I agree that they should have fleshed out these tracks more. The have good ideas but feel like they ended too soon.

Not you giving See you? a 3!! AHAHAjhacbix omg. you make laugh sometimes. this type of song is definitely where our tastes differ. I know that’s not your rating of the production. You’re entitled to your tastes! it’s just funny sometimes. Yah, I love See you?. The bass line (bass guitar loop), reminds me a lot of No More Dream(BTS), which also has an early 90’s hip hop groove, but then they add sooo many other fun sound experimentations throughout the song, and some really yummy ad libs, and stacked vocals (and/or in unison/monophonic?/Gregorian? singing) with call and response. It’s like H.O.T. meets Aespa; It encapsulates different kpop musical trends in really seamless way. And that weird pop-country mid-song bridge kinda works? The song still keeps a melodic core, prob bc of the loop, so in comparison to a song like sickuhh, it talks with the audience, instead of to them. Which I like, and means you can still make some cool choreo with it. Criticisms: I agree “red light” is too short. Might as well been an interlude. On Moving On, the song is kinda let down by it’s lyricism, not enough vocal text painting/emotionality, and not enough vocal richness. The song sometimes falls victim to the Cosmic (Red Velvet), lets finish our phrases by going up even though it isn’t the truth of the lyrics, which is always cheesy to me. Overall, all the songs have great moments though. My album score would also be a strong 8-8.5/10, (a B).

I prefer the bsides from their last album but idk what it is I really like see that? listening to it without some of the pauses that were in the mv made me get it. I’m also so happy they changed their stylist it was long overdue. Its really Jiwoo’s era the blonde and getting to hear her sing more both on the album and through mujin service has been great.

Anita

I think BAE standouts to me in this album the most because in moving on and in this album she sounded like a SM singer.

Zachariah

I really love them, but i think the majority of this songs are a "easy to listen" type of music. The last album has songs that are different and unique, and i think this one is missing that.

Mauricio Cuadrado

I swear I've seen multiple people who stay stuff along the lines of "we get it you can sing 🙄" I'm like do you hear what you're saying? Probably jealousy because their groups can't do what nmixx can but who knows

Fadi - moonlight

When has Stan twt ever said anything with sense!!! Cos what do you mean showing off vocals is now an issue?? but let it be a dance break its fine lol

Koko3op

I didn't enjoy any of the B-sides compared to the last album; nothing was hooking me. This title just isn't doing it for me, there are some parts of the song that I'm not entirely sold on.

Ashley

That part in Red Light sounds like Tattoo Nas ne dogonyat (very old song)

Kseniya

I agree with everything you said! Love the concept but I prefer their previous mini more. I still liked the overall theme of the album and I think the title track SOUNDS like a title track it's just not for me. I think in the title track they did have a very slight instrumentation shift in the second verse but it's much safer than their usual switch ups (which I admittedly liked since O.O). In my eyes, those girls can't do any wrong because they are SO talented and their vocals are one of the best right now amongst the 4th/5th idols. Like what other group has sent 5/6 of their members to Lee Mujin Service? I don't care if stan twt think they are showing off their vocals too much like if I could sing like that in this vocal drought I would too! (this comment turned out to be so long sorry 💀 but great reaction!)

Fadi - moonlight

Yesss this seems to be the moment for them!

Koko3op

Will be unable to watch for a bit but I was looking forward to seeing what you thought about this and am glad to see you seem to be getting behind it. I think you've expressed a lot of the same skepticism that I've felt towards the group in the past in terms of their identity and and all that stuff, but I feel like between Dash and now this with songs like Sickuhh and See That?, they've really landed in something finally. All other comparisons aside including on a quality level, but it kind of reminds me of when XG dropped Left Right/Shooting Star and it was like "oh, they found it," except obviously this runway turned out much longer.
