Triple S Badge Wars 2 ep 4

A slightly underwhelming conclusion but it still had it's moments of being entertaining.

I'm definitely impressed with the amount of budget they have for a rookie group with this many members!

I think I'll check out season at SOME point for sure.

Enjoy!

the major difference between major network mainstream variety shows and idol only content are the hosts (and budgets). Lots of people just consider them comedians and whatnot but it's a very specific (and important) skill to be able to keep the show moving and entertaining and not hit lulls. The problem with a lot of these idol shows is....it's just the idols and they're all SO YOUNG and green (from on onscreen entertainment perspective). Even comparing to when a few of the girls were on Chaeyeon's Drinking show vs when Yooyeon and Soomin were on Eunhyuk and Donghae's show, Eunhyuk has worked so long in tv variety he was able to keep the show moving and entertaining whereas Chaeyeon's show had some extremely painful lulls and awkwardness bc even she's still so young when it comes to K variety The good thing about Badge Wars was about 3/4 were just well constructed games that moved, the number of members allowed for the 1theK team to have a mountain of footage that they could just cut to different member's reactions or words quickly and often (even their Behind the Scenes video for S2 was pretty well done and edited), and the editors did seem to edit it very professionally and almost TV-like. The editing of these videos made even Game Caterers look like it was shot on iphones and edited by high schoolers (and Nah PD created some of the most legendary variety shows in korean entertainment history) But I agree....this is something (if they ever DO decide to do it again which I kind of doubt) that should be done sparingly. But who knows.....MODHAUS seems to have a really good relationship with 1theK and this show brought VIEWS

If you check out reporting like https://variety.com/2023/music/news/modhaus-cosmos-k-pop-fan-platform-investment-1235789039/ , I think a picture has been forming with regards to the extent that the extant industry and it's biggest players, as well as foreign investors, have viewed Modhaus as a platform, heavily trading in NFTs and cryptocurrency, etc. They are loaded, it looks like. From the worst possible sources, and due to the worst trends imaginable, but loaded.

Whew yeah that's serious coin!!

If/when you check out the first season, I'd definitely pay/watch it! It's not so much about the intricacies or competitiveness of the games, but about how the games facilitate specific kinds of interactions, or provide people with an opportunity to express themselves, right? So the last games at the amusement park were not total failures on that account, but, I agree, felt distinctly underwhelming, especially considering what came before; probably didn't help that there was such a large gap in time between watching. I think the first season is similar in that respect, in that it always peaks with the 3rd episode, which is fantastic. It's still a lot of fun, but the 4th ones have felt more like epilogues than exciting conclusions. More entertaining than a lot of other stuff, but there's always room for improvement; there are a lot of Korean game shows that do it better (at least in part; more time to refine the formula; and they get it wrong a lot of times, too), and idol content often tries to imitate it unsuccessfully, but the audience doesn't really care, because the people enliven the structure to an extent that the original shows weren't capable of; there's a familiarity there that you don't get with an ensemble cast necessarily. I think this second season had three really good episodes, because it split up the games across the episodes in ways that kept excitement going. They just need a better climax. I hope they keep doing it for this group, though considering the amount of effort involved, by production and the girls themselves, it's probably best kept as a once-in-two-years surprise or something.

and 1000% this company has money (and more than just their voting system where you buy digital cards to be able to vote and album sales). They must have MAJOR backers. TripleS was just on Omniscient View (The Manager) and one of the hosts mentioned that the company has already spent around $10 million the past 2 years on production/managing costs and during the show they show that each meal to feed the girls usually comes out to around $300 for a single meal (but actually thinking about it.....that's actually not too bad if you consider they've had 7 comebacks and 24 members/7 managers/3 apartments. JYP has mentioned on average it costs JYP about 400K for a comeback for a single group but JYP grou7ps make WAY more $$$ than Modhaus has in album sales and concerts)

yeah....there's no way you'd get the pineapple joke (or maybe? Aren't you learning korean?). So the question was "whats an apple with a hole in it?" and the answer was "pineapple". Pineapple in korean is pronounced pa-een-eh-peul. The word pa-een means "to dig". It's just a word play joke which there are thousands upon thousands of in korean since syllables and words have multiple meanings
