BABYMONSTER Like that & Forever

Well this is definitely an IMPROVEMENT but there's still some ways to go.

The beauty with BM is that their vocals are TRULY fantastic and individualised. It's what gives their songs an extra sprinkle of magic in ways other groups could not.

Unfortunately I'm reaaaaalllyyy getting more and more put off by this particular rap style which I think K-pop as a whole has evolved past and I pray someone in YG learns this. It comes off way too inauthentic and doesn't do their skill justice. I would love for them to find their own interpretation of rap that strays from the Lisa & Jennie formula.

I would still like to see them step it up choreo wise but I liked the video's better.

Enjoy!

It's definitely a no no in some respects; e.g. premise (!), some of the lyrics don't work at all, in a comical/cringe way. But I think the highlight in the cover really shows why it works, because that riff isn't an attempt to copy necessarily (though it might refer to a live version I'm not familiar with?). And the insert Korean bit in the low register right before also helps emphasize the climb, which gives it a very different feeling overall for me. It's not Sullivan obviously, but it's something pretty special within the field (and circumstances) it's in.

Regenherz

Oh, shit i didn't know he was. Thanks for the info. Will not be listening to his "unfortunately " good songs

Thabit Ayob

RIGHT?! Like why be a zionist

Koko3op

I think I heard it there too!

Koko3op

Omgggg yes that style of rapping would be great!!

Koko3op

I watched it beforehand off camera but not properly. All i know is covering Jazmine is a major no no cos she's SOO unique but I remember hearing great potential.

I really like Like That… and I totally hear Charlie Puth all over it. It’s those harmonies, and the head voice, and those similar chord progressions, and recently I feel like he’s brought out good things in every group he’s worked with. (Honestly, what I mean is, I also really like Lose My Breath.) Which is why it’s so annoying that he’s apparently problematic &#*FVRH You win some, you lose some I guess.

Irene

The chorus of Like That was pretty big on TikTok. I had it stuck in my head for weeks before looking up who sang it.

Faxe11

i love their voices, they recently did a itslive version of forever and it was sooo goood, you should definitely check it out during some of your down time. other than that i’m glad yg is letting them show off vocals !! never thought i’d see a great vocal group from yg but here we are lol

Angel Memories

PLSSS i didn't expect you to react to this so soon after i sent the baemon idol theater vid; it's funny how we share the same thoughts abt the song like there's smthn missing but this single surely is step in the right direction bc wow we love singers and don't need empty choruses ! although asa has that talent for rapping, i lowkey wish she went for an irene style of rapping (but ig it's bc of that whole "YG family" style)

Jonathan

the asa and xiaoting comparison makes so much sense!! i’ve never noticed that before

Brooke

omgggg i don’t know if you’ve seen it already but you need to check out Rami’s predebut cover of Pick up your feelings by Jazmine Sullivan. i decided she was my bias just from that cover it was amazing. also, why do i feel like I AM by IVE would suit them a lot, especially as a live performance since they are really good live performers.

Brooke

Yeahh it's definitely a YG signature for sure and tbh I might have to agree, her voice is wild.

Koko3op

Ohhhhh haha

Koko3op

Definitely an improvement and like you said I’m gonna keep an eye on them too

'Like that' is an older song so you've heard it. Its just the video that is new. 'Forever' was a single song comeback. I don't think YG will change that rap style. It still has its fans and its too much of a signature. I do think BM will try a lot of new singing styles with the great vocalists that they have. I think your bias Rami may be the best 5th gen vocalist. Admittedly, I've seen only very little and she is really young. But, it looks like she has technique and soul. She will do amazing on something like Mujin Service when she appears.

Mint

I think the reason 'like that' sounds familiar to you is because you reacted to the song before - in the same reaction as 'sheesh' i'm pretty sure.

Nini

Tbh that's more than a valid reason tbh but i do think there could be a middle ground of choreo that's interesting and complex without being tooo taxing vocally. And even have intros and outros that have more challenging choreo before any vocals come in but I have heard great things about their live vocals which i LOOOVE!

Koko3op

i think the reason they stray away from harder choreos is because their songs are quite difficult to sing live and bm has been getting recognised as being really good live in nearly all of their performances. also! i really loved ahyeons high notes at the end i just love how all the members voices compliment each other. i’m not sure if you know that they’ve been having fanmeets, basically mini concerts and ik you’re just getting to see what they’re abt but i think if u saw the clips from the fanmeet you’d truly be shocked and impressed by how they perform and i love that u can tell they love what they’re doing! anyways that was me just yapping. loved the reaction as always, love how u keep it so real! 🙏❤️
