STAYC Metamorphic Album

The title track still has a STAYC sound in the beat but melodically and hook wise it's missing the magic they usually have. I realised whilst editing that it's like a combo of RUN2U & The Saturday's Up loool.
FOURTEEN tracks and only ONE songs stood out to me and felt interesting and quirky in a way that is SOOO them, some of the others felt waay to trend following and I never saw STAYC as that kind of a group so I find this album to be a massive mistep.
Listening to the last song first by mistake lol actually had me excited that there was going to be a more vibrant feel to the album, alas this wasn't the case and I was REALLY looking forward to this album.
There were some nice harmonies/vocal layering moments but considering how strong some of their vocalists are, there needed to be more presence.
I hope it performs well though because I want more music from them that feels like them! There's no way it's just me that feels this way.

I think part of the issue is BEP(staycs producer) used to only really do title tracks so they had more time to always put out their best work for twice and apink. Now that they’re responsible for entire albums they’ve ended up stagnating a bit. I have faith that stayc can get back on track though and I feel like it may be time to work with more producers for their bsides so things don’t feel rushed or underdeveloped.

2024-07-06 17:23:06 +0000 UTCI haven't been as into STAYC tbh since their YoungLuv/Run2u album, bc my god that album was AMAZINGG! Should've been in contention for Album of the Year at all the awards... but that's another story... I guess when there's such high expectations, there's bound to be a fall at some point. But, even their title tracks haven't been as good since then. IDK what has happened since then.

I just had such high expectations when I heard it was going to be a full album, where their producer, Rado/BEP (who I rate so highly), finally had full freedom to paint across so many songs. Young Luv was just so good. I am biased but I was hoping they would use this album to expand & really dig deeper into that. Instead, this album feels a bit like a grab-bag of stuff that their producer wanted to try shoved into an album. That alone would have still been fine with me, but the reduced emphasis on Stayc vocals here really made me sad. Especially when it seems that the member's vocals got even better. Do check out J's Mujin service appearance, really good. From a commercial perspective, no, you are not that disconnected from the Korean public tastes, haha. Both the album & TT won't do that well. Its not catchy enough. Its not like Teddy Bear & Bubble, which were slightly unambitious but were super catchy Career-wise, I'm still not too worried about them: Sales are holding up, they have an established identity, their reputation in Korea is rock solid. They can survive a few missteps. I consider their company one of the best nugu kpop companies. Really well managed on what I presume is a tight budget. Stayc members have supposedly been getting paid well already (from profits), which is such a nice surprise. In the bad old Kpop days, at this level of success, they would still be on a measly allowance, a slave contract and packed into a terrible dorm

2024-07-06 14:39:12 +0000 UTCnoo it's so sad seeing you so dejected :(( i love stayc and while I did enjoy the album overall I agree that it wasn't exactly up to par with their previous stuff, a little less cohesive and overall a bit too short like I really hoped that some of those songs (twenty !!) were a bit longer and had a little more space to develop...anyways always love seeing your feedback on stuff! and since you like j's tone I'd recommend you her lee mujin service to se even in your own time yk if you want a reminder of staycs good qualities after this disappointment lol

2024-07-06 10:03:10 +0000 UTCmy expectations were so high and i was disappointed with this album, which i was kind of expecting tbh, but hopefully their next comeback is a hard hitter for me. i think their young luv mini album solidified their sound for me and is gonna be a hard one to beat in terms of their discography. young luv was really THEIR ERA i hope we get something similar soon

2024-07-06 09:49:23 +0000 UTCI can still enjoy this album as I feel like most of the songs are catchy enough that I'll remember the hooks... but I really trusted BEP to deliver with a full album and they just didn't. I kind of love the title track, but having so many songs (including TT) be under 3 minutes on a full album is criminal. Removing 5 songs and fully fleshing out the rest of the ones that fell flat in vocals and production could make an amazing album. I realized what bothered me the most about this album - I feel like I barely heard Yoon. She shines in both bright and emotional songs, and I barely got any of that in this one. She usually really carries the energy of STAYC songs.

2024-07-06 07:08:15 +0000 UTCIm in agreement but I kind of just chalk it up to every now and then if you're successful enough you'll have an album or comeback that just doesn't work and hopefully it's just a blip (and they've managed to have fairly decent to good albums since their inception). No one is 100%...and especially in a new company where you're the only group and for better or worse, you have literally ONE producer doing all your music. Good thing tho is at least the pre-sales+sales for this album has already exceeded their previous one so they're still going up in sales. I don't think there's any fear we'll see a Weeekly Ven Para situation but hopefully their next one gets them back on track
