DOYOUNG 'Youth' Album Review!

WHAT an impressive debut!!

The production and the range in vocal delivery he showcases here it's SUPER impressive. I definitely ate my words from what I said in his mujin service.

He managed to make every song stand on its own and super interesting indvidually. I'm sooo glad he got Mark to sing on that song, I'm sure Ceecee will be very pleased.

I really enjoyed this album, even the slow songs lol.

Enjoy!

DOYOUNG 'Youth' Album Review!

Absolutely loved this album. He really embellished his vocals in a way that was fresh and unexpected, and every song on the album definitely had its place. I did agree that the album might have had a bit too many guitar sections -- the climax in From Little Wave was so emotional, but by the end, Rest and Dallas Love Field fell a bit short of their awesome choruses with those repeated guitar riffs. Love him and I really hope he gives us something darker or comparable to Dojaejung's Perfume album!

Thank you!!!

Me liking this album is such a surprise, not a ballad fan at all. But I would actually go back to listen to this I think

My thoughts; When I first saw he was going for a youthful concept I kinda rolled my eyes because sooo many idols have done it, particularly for debuts. And considering his age I wasn't sure he could pull it off. BUT I was pleasantly surprised. I haven't actually read the lyrics, but I think he has evoked the FEELING of being young, through his voice and the instrumental. There is a free-spirited innocence and whimsicality to the songs. Like standing in a field of green grass with the wind blowing through your hair. I don't know how else to describe it lol. Very slice-of-life anime for sure. The MV seemed to be heavily inspired by the anime movie Your Name (highly recommend btw). I grew up watching those sorts of movies, so they took me back to my childhood. However, I think sometimes the songs got a little too OST-sounding, like little wave. All in all, I actually really enjoyed the project. I really liked his take on the youthful concept. It feels like he is looking back on his childhood and reminiscing what it was like to be young and free of responsibility (again, haven't read the lyrics, just the feeling it evokes for me). It feels genuine to me, which I appreciate.

I really enjoyed this album! I was already a fan of Doyoung and my expectations were high...he didn't disappoint. Time Machine is my favorite. Taeyeon...the queen...I have no words! MARK, my love. He sounded amazing and I love that Doyoung wanted him to sing and trusted him to write. I watched him on Eric Nam's show a while back where Mark talked about wanting to sing more...I really hope that when he puts out an album, he sings as well! I'm Army first, but the hold that NCT, as a whole, has on me, is crazy!

His Japanese album was surprisingly different but given your reaction to some of the alt rock tracks on this album you'd hate that too lol. Anyway time to catch up on some concerts. Happy birthday again!

Kym

That's EXACTLY WHY hahaha!

This album was giving Coming of Age kdrama/anime OST prob why it was named Youth

I'm here from the YouTube live. That was so fun chatting and then coming over here. I should try to catch the lives more often. Anyway, this was such a good album. Shoutout to SM for giving him a full album. That was a surprise - even Exo soloists haven't gotten past mini albums but they're all leaving lol. I was surprised with his overall sound. I was expecting all ballads which I love, but it was nice getting more variety. We got some OST, coffee shop, pop rock, alt rock, and ballads. The standouts for me are From Little Wave, Serenade, and Warmth. Is your ballad aversion why I haven't seen a Chen album review lol. You'd probably die haha.

Kym

I dunno if I am but I might check it out! Wooow props to Mark!!

I love Doyoung's voice so much. Mark wrote all the lyrics for Time Machine by himself for the first time (only person credited) and I'm so proud. Doyoung specifically wanted Mark singing and I'm so glad, I love Mark's tone. This only makes me even more excited for Mark's own official solo debut. Taeyeon was an absolutely lovely feature. Doyoung did 3 little mini films documenting his process, they're on the main NCT channel if you wanna check em out in your own time. It was really cool to see everything Doyoung wanted for this album. I'm happy he got to go back to his band roots, he totally suits it. My favorites from this album are Beginning, Time Machine, Little Light, and Dallas Love Field. BTW, the recording behind for Smoothie is out if you're at all interested.

Loool why was I expecting you to not like it hahaha!!! Personally I wasn't expecting to either because I thought they'd all be ballads, but I actually LOVED it!!! I'll come back with my thoughts later once I've watched the video.
