IU - Love Wins All Recording

The FACT that she's SICK and is outsinging the whole industry is actually PRETTY DISGUSTING HAILUDGHFUYGHD.

The level of talent??!?!?! I neeeed more recording videos from her, I DO feel like I'd underestimated her recently and forgotten how talented she is although I loved her singing with V  I think it's about time I did an IU album but I'm just scared her music isn't really for me :(.

But you know me, I'm always willing to tryy!!

Trueeee maybe I'll revisit the killing voice and pick an era. I still have a feeling that her core genre that she taps into wouldn't be my taste though but Lilac may be a good shout since I know some songs from there.

the thing with IU is she has soooo many variety in her music. I know a few ueana here think you wouldn't like her albums but I think it depends on wwhich album you listen to. She does have a different story line and tone to every album comeback. Like some album will be more bright and chipper, some will be slightly edgier and more funky with lots of jazz and disco influence, some will be power ballads, some are very lyrical and soft winter songs. I think a full album reaction would be great but you just have to pick the right one. PErsonally, I think IU is a lot more experimental with her music than most ppl give her credit for. Yes powerful but clean fresh voice in ballads is the main thing she's known for bc the korean public has a genre they prefer from her, but she play with different genre and tones a lot in her discography. She comes off as your typical soft girlie. As an artist, I think she bring out a lot of different personas in herself. Controversial opinion but I think Lilac (her 5th album) is actually a great one to listen in full. It got some more funkier songs, a couple bright and pretty but very catch tunes and also a couple power ballads. I think IU for me is the prime example of cute and soft on the outside but a badass inside. A lot of the way she handle herself with public opinions and the way she embody edgier roles in her acting career and some of her music choices let you in on her idgaf attitude: Here's a link to her Lilac playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kwlUEAcLsCI8lk6V12fyd299NrWKlCSXA&si=sAeVECa_InfnFCC5 I would also check out some of her more interesting songs that's not on her full album and Idk how many of them you've watched the full MV for but it showed a different side for sure: - BBiBBi - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM0xDI5R50E - Blueming (MV Version)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1PvIWdJ8xo - Twenty Three - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42Gtm4-Ax2U Also may be refresh with her killing voice clip again LOL I saw your reaction to it before but may be a good reminder since it's been a while. You can pick an era of music you like from the killing voice and check out that album.

Oooooo okay makes sense!!

Koko3op

Yeahhh I do have a feeling 90% of her music won't be for me which is a damn shame! I hope we get more recordings though!

Koko3op

And to answer your question as to why she was recording while being so sick, in the behind the scenes video for Love Wins All MV they mention that the filming happened before she had time to record the song(she kept postponing it), they filmed using the guide version. Since the filming happened in below 0 conditions, she got a bad cold but she couldn't postpone it yet again, for a matter of principles I suppose LOL She's a busy and hard-working woman!

This was in fact the first ever recording behind IU has given us ๐Ÿ™ƒ I hope it becomes the norm because if there's a singer I want to get a glimpse of the behind the scenes is IU. Iโ€™ve watched so many of these recording behind videos from kpop artists and to me there's a clear difference between an artist who is truly in control of her career and artists who are being told what to do all the time. The fact she's the one making the decisions about her music, from concepts to production, is rare not only in the kpop industry but in the music industry in general, especially pop music. We stan an independent queen! ๐Ÿ‘ธ Now, if you're looking for more IU music to discover, I gotta be real with you. Her music is not really your taste. I'm saying this as a uaena and as a long time subscriber of your channel. BUT if you're willing to take her music for what it is and just appreciate the vocal prowess, the lyricism, the skillful execution, then I think you'll be able to enjoy it nonetheless.

Oh and what you said reminds me of her Pieces documentary when her longtime producer Lee jong hoon (heโ€™s known her since she was a teenager & is the same one directing her in this recording) said she really pays attention to every slight breath and whisper when recording a song and that she never brushes off any feedback she gets. Definitely seems to be the result of many yearsโ€™ hard work.

Reem

Just listened to a bit of a both and I don't usually enjoy the big bang/bossa nova vibes but i'm sure there's other songs of hers I will like.

Koko3op

Iโ€™m quite new so Iโ€™m not really familiar with your taste ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿปbut Iโ€™d love to see you react to some B-sides of her album Modern Times, I highly recommend the songs Love of B and Obliviate! Her vocal delivery is incredible

Reem

Hahaha oh I guess I wonโ€™t do that then

Koko3op

Thatโ€™s the thing about someone who can actually sing and have a good technique, even if they are sick and not feel well they still be able to sing well

Lea Dan

naur i think you listened to pretty much all of the love poem album already, except for 1-2 songs that you won't like. if you filter out the very traditional korean ballad songs, twinkly guitar spring songs, remakes and tactical "generic" songs, you will find the gems. but tbh for the life of me, i cant grasp your taste at all hahaha but it's always interesting to see

kendricklmao

Haha beat you to it! Yeah maybe i'll do both minis, we'll see!

Koko3op

Doing a Few Songs from different albums is also a great idea, her sound changes quite a bit throughout her career.

I was thinking of bugging you about this but here you are reacting to this so early, thanks! This was a really interesting video because it showed both the singing and the production, and even had drama (the flu) As for album reactions, I would vote for "Love Poem" mini if you want to tackle an older album. Its good and short, so it doesn't drag on if its not to your liking. Otherwise, you can just wait for the new mini releasing on Feb 20. Your analysis of her singing at the end was interesting. Some of the techniques stereotypically when people try to copy IU-style singing is the breathiness that comes in-and-out and the dynamics (sliding soft-to-loud or loud-to-soft notes). But as she has got older, she has gotten better at controlling exactly when to place all these things within the song/notes and provide all these interesting little variations.
