Stray Kids 2 Kids Ep 5 - 8 & Vocal Ranking

CHANGBIN & HYUNJIN HOW I LOVE YOU SO.

I'M sooo glad this show exists and they showcased just how good their singing is and what else they can do to showcase their different voices!

Bang Chan also demolished and of course Lee-Know too.

It's crazy because trying to rank the vocal skills in SKZ is actually VERY difficult because not only does everyone have different strength, for me there's no singlular member that has great technique when it comes to ALL aspects of singing because they had habits that hinder either their breath support/power, vibrato or their tonal quality.

Of the top of my head though this would be MY vocal ranking with the limited exposure I've heard. They should all do a mujin service lol.

1. Lee Know - Tonally and overall consistency he is easily my no.1 vocally not only as a preference to listen to, I think he's the cleanest most consistent technically, his greatest weakness is a lack of a power. If he wasn't a main dancer he'd have more confidence his voice for sure.

2. Changbin - SO UNDERATTED it's actually RIDICULOUS,  not only does he have one of the most pure tones in Kpop, his control, use of dynamics, vibrato and lack of tension is genuinely main vocal standard. The ONLY reason he's not number 1 is because I feel I haven't seen him singing A LOT but from what i've seen he's joint first pretty much. Him singing Taeyang's Eyes, Nose & Lips is what sold me. Listen to Bang Chan sing before him and how HE excuses the same phrases with ease and such clarity of tone. Fantastic.

3. Seungmin - He's always a pleasant surprise, he knows how to use his power with great support, range. One of the reasons I wouldn't make him main vocal is because of his bad habit with the shrill vibrato at the end of most of his phrases which is not only subjectively not pleasant but an indication of inconsistency with technique for those minor moments. He also can be a bit shouty at times and loses clarity and warmth as his voice ascends in pitch when belting.

4. Han - The ACE. Now in many instances I honestly think he's the best vocalists in SKZ because of his power/persona when singing and impressive range but when it comes to consistency and technique his tension and shouting tendencies show up much more than the above 3 which I'm sure is due to his rock influences but tbh he's the most exciting to listen to vocally. He's a wildcard but that obviously has it's drawbacks.

5. Bang Chan - I think THIS episode really made me realise how well rounded he is, my god. He has an air of joking around and not reeeaally taking his vocals seriously but when he does he's very easy to listen to, has a unique tone, nice belts and range of course. Weaknesses are lacking of power and a neutral larynx when belting higher so he doesn't pull notes

6. Felix - Deep End is all I have to say. YES Felix has a habit of staying complacent and rarely leaving his signature low notes but there's no doubt what he does he does WELL. His clarity in tone is always pleasant to listen to. If he developed some higher chest notes as well as his falsetto/head voices so it has more presence that would be great and score him some points.

7. I.N - He easily has the most divisive tones I think. Sometimes he does things that impress me but I can't help but be frustrated with the lack of clarity in his tone when he's singing certain songs. Sometimes it suits a song PERFECTLY and other times it feels as though he's muddying his vocals, much like V pre-layover.

8.Hyunjin - He definitely sings the LEAST and when he does he's the least developed however in THIS clip he actually impressed me a LOT. I think he's been working on his vocals which is great but also he doesn't have to. I do prefer his tone more than I.N more often but skill ways I.N out paces him by quite a lot!

WHEW I didn't even expect to do this but thought I might as well state my current standings before I dive into more content. I HOPE one day they do a killing voice or even more vocal stuff because the untapped potential and UNDER-APPRECIATION of their vocals is really disappointing.

ENJOY!

Sam I.

ahh did you watch the entirety of the karaoke eps ?

Yeahh I remember him saying that on Mujin Service and couldn't gather why anyone would opt to muffle your voice and send it backwards when you want your voice forward (in your mask) for clarity and resonance. I think his phrasing/intonation are probably his greatest assets technically because of hit trot background and his weakness would be his tension, nasality, lack of clarity and not regularly using vibrato which will all be helped by consistent diaphragmatic support. And to answer your second question I can't hear past his flaws with my ear to ever feel a sense of calm lol but that's where subjectivity happens when it comes to someones tone.

Koko3op

I agree with you on pretty much everything. for hyunjin I think if he really focused and worked on his vocals he has potential to be one of the best in this group

I get that you don't like I.N's tone. From what I've gathered inside and outside of Stayville, it's apparently an acquired taste. I just have two things to ask: 1. What do you think his strengths and weaknesses are in his technique? On LMS, he said he's been working for about a year and a half (2 years now) on changing the way he vocalizes for more consistency in his performances. He used to shoot his voice out towards the front, but now he muffles his voice and sends it backwards. 2. Have you ever felt a sense of calm from I.N's singing? I.N is actually my favorite singer in SKZ because to me, his singing is like a sedative, especially his lower register. He could put me to sleep so easily (and I mean that in the best way lol). I've never experienced that from any other singer before. It really is such a shame he doesn't do more with his precious gift.

I'm really waiting for that day when he will understand how good he is as a singer and will start using his powerful voice with confidence.

Kseniya

Oh, I see. Changbin and Chan were fantastic! Did you see any Lee Know 's live performances of Limbo?

Kseniya

I heard it off camera!!

Koko3op

I always say we need to hear changbin sing more often cause he’s tone is so pretty I would actually think this is two different when he sing and rap
