Public Downloader Filters RC

The "Custom Download Filters" feature for the Downloader has been a considerable amount of work since I picked it up in late November and finally is almost done. After all this development, I'm happy to announce that a Public Release Candidate is now available for everybody to test. Just go to the Misc Menu from Update All and activate it there (if you had activated it in the Patrons Menu, you don't need to check this, it will be already active).

This release is also the last call for feedback on the design of the feature. In a couple of weeks, the final version will be released, and after that, there will be little room for discussing the foundational design choices of how the filters work. Therefore, if you have questions or suggestions, you should send them to me asap.

You may read about how to use filters in this post for the Downloader Filters Preview. The only new thing since then is that filters can now be applied to the Arcade ROMs Database too.

Now that there are two databases that can be filtered, where you place the filter option is important. And actually, now you can place it in multiple sections at the same time. If you place it under [mister], the filter expression will affect all databases that support filters. When you write it under [distribution_mister], that expression will only affect the database containing all the official MiSTer content, and when you place it under [arcade_roms_db], whatever you put there, will only affect the Arcade ROMs. Filter expressions under a concrete database section will always overwrite whatever was defined within the [mister] section. Personally, I think tweaking filters only in [mister] will be more convenient, but time will tell.

La funcionalidad para "filtrar descargas" en el Downloader ha supuesto una carga de trabajo considerable desde que empecé con ello a finales de Noviembre, y por fin está casi lista. Después de todo ese desarrollo, me alegra poder anunciar una Release Candidate pública para que todo el mundo la pueda probar. Simplemente ve al Misc Menu de Update All y actívala allí (si ya la tenías activada en el Patrons Menu, no tienes que hacer nada, ya la tendrás activada).

Tras este lanzamiento tendremos la última oportunidad para introducir cambios importantes en el diseño de esta funcionalidad. En par de semanas, la versión final será lanzada, y después ya no será posible cambiar cosas fundamentales de cómo funcionan los filtros. Por tanto, si tienes preguntas o sugerencias, ahora sería el momento de hacérmelas saber.

Puedes leer sobre cómo usar los filtros en esta publicación de la Filters Preview. La única diferencia desde entonces es que ahora también se pueden aplicar filtros a la base de datos de Arcade ROMs.

Ahora que hay dos bases de datos que pueden ser filtradas, en donde pones la opción filter es importante. Y de hecho, ahora la puedes poner en múltiples lugares. Si la pones debajo de [mister], la expresión de filtrado afectará a todas las bases de datos que puedan ser filtradas. Cuando la pones dentro de la sección [distribution_mister], ese filtro aplicará solamente al contenido oficial de MiSTer, y si la pones dentro de la sección [arcade_roms_db], lo que pongas ahí afectará únicamente a las ROMs arcade. Los filtros que se pongan en una sección de una base de datos sobreescribirán aquel que se haya puesto en la sección [mister] para aquella base de datos. Personalmente pienso que poner los filtros únicamente en [mister] es más conveniente.
