How are you guys handle plagiarism?
Added 2021-09-02 11:51:51 +0000 UTCSorry for the random text post at this hour, but somethings have been on my mind for a really long time now. I spotted an artist in the ffxiv community consistently tracing others work which lead to their work being extremely inconsistent.
I personally don't mind when people trace to practice or for certain body parts (horns/hands) because I do that with 3D assets regularly, but with other artists' work I feel like it's really irresponsible? Especially when an artist charge commissions for money, I think they should at least try to do things themselves, feeling a bit cheap tracing imo.
I'm not a fan of callout culture so I will not say who is it. I'm scared I get called out one day for drawing questionable things 😆 Just expressing my thoughts that's all, I will delete this later once I am awake.

Omg that really sucks, it is traumatizing... To a lot of people who don't really do art, I think they can't tell the difference thus they praise on what they think looks good 😐

2021-09-02 19:23:15 +0000 UTCI had a personal experience finding an artist that had traced/HEAVILY REFERENCED a commission I paid for that was very specific to a story I wrote. They basically flipped the image, cut out my OC, and then placed theirs there with the NPC they were with only slightly changed. I'll be honest, it destroyed me. And I couldn't find the courage to call them on it because even tho others in the group saw my comm and then saw their "recreation" 28 hours later, they were getting all the praise. Tracing is understandable for practice and so is referencing, but I think if it's a commission (whether be what you are creating or what the referenced piece was) that it's a no go. Also, if you do reference or was "inspired by" (which the artist in question for me semi claimed in a private group) that you should ask before posting from the OG artist or state clearly it is inspired. I'm really not a fan of people posting art traced from other art in general because most don't say it was, so they get a lot of praise. I know plenty of people who do in private to practice, but wouldn't dare post it because well, it's traced. It's a difficult subject to talk about really because many are touchy when it comes to it.
