2025-07-15 22:17:17 +0000 UTCRegarding the Galilean sights, back when I was in primary school (in Australia) in the mid-late 80s I remember we had a WWI gallipoli veteran visit. I recall him telling a story how they had these useless glass discs that they had to fit to their rifles, but how as soon as they got onto the battlefield everyone would immediately rip them off and throw them away, because they were useless, and they were worried about reflections off them giving away their position. I recall him talking about them like they were some sort of ceremonial / parade accessory for the rifle, but I wonder if they were actually a Galilean sight?
