Fascinating rifle that I had never heard of, but I've always heard the name pronounced mohn-druh-GOHN in West Texas.

Jack Armstrong

That is super steampunk. Actually reminds me of a rifle from the game Valkyria Chronicles. Too late to have Ian drop in a voice over for the French factory? O- “I can’t pronounce the Frenchie, but I know a Francophile who can…”

5:44. Was Mondragon born in 1850, or 1859?

Erik

BWAAAHAHAHAHA! You made a funny! 🤣

Bruce Brodnax

Good eye! I didn't catch that...

Bruce Brodnax

I think that's the plan, once they can get access to one. They've been holding back on Mondragon for awhile, I suspect just for this reason; they didn't want to dribble it out over years as they happened upon them. This series is a special effort years in the making; they've been working toward this for a long, long time...

Bruce Brodnax

I'd rather they bring a green screen & shoot footage on-site and treat us to Virtual Othais: Bigger, Badder, & Totally 2D![1], but yeah, they got bonus laugh points this episode! 😁 [1] This would provide a great opportunity for OGthias to interact w/ VOthais, btw...

Bruce Brodnax

Their vids are served through YT, so you can always go to the playback speed in the settings & slow it down to .9x or .75x if you want. I finally learned to run vids at 1.25x when it is a slow speaker and I'm trying to work through the fluff to get to where the details matter & slow it down to 1x again just recently...

Bruce Brodnax

Holy crap that ammo would be impressive by today's standards. I would not like to try to duplicate it however.

Wayne S.

Thank you so much! I have wanted to know more about these rifles for decades. I think it was maybe a Roy Dunlap book where I first saw a drawing of the 5.2mm cartridge? So much wonderful weirdness! I squealed at the magazine spring. You have made me so happy.

Marlene

VERY interesting. has some great design features. they clearly thought this thing kind of through though that slamfire... uhem just no. this design is so cool. the handguard, bolt, enbloc... so cool.

Guido Schriewer

Othais has many pages of content that he’s put together. Hit ‘rewind’ if you think that you’ve missed something.

Alfred Gallo

Absolutely cracking O & M , what a fascinating weapon that was / should have been

Guy K

You're talking way too fast :(

Andrew Smelser

Please do the cgi thing more it's kinda funny

Andrew Smelser

Will there be a video on the Mondragon 1908?

Michael Andrej Molnár

At 20:24, comparing the Schmidt-Rubin bolt to the Mondragon: that lovely, smooth, giant S-curve of the raceway on the Schmidt bolt would be a production nightmare to machine vs. the simple diagonal (albeit on a curved surface) of the Mondragon...

Bruce Brodnax

At 5:54 you show his pic & name spelled correctly, yet mispronounce it yet again in the overdub: it's not "Mon dragon" [gutter French for "My dragon, Pete can kick rocks..."] it is "mohn dra GOHN" as clearly denoted by the accent aigu on the "o" in the final syllable. I've kept my mouth [keyboard] shut before now because I couldn't be certain I had ever seen his name spelled out, but now given your own research [which I trust implicitly!] displaying it for all to see, I'd like to preserve you from further embarrassment. Thanks for bringing this series on his seminal self-loaders to fruition, I've been fascinated by their relative obscurity since I first read of them decades ago, thinking "How come they're so rarely discussed?" so I've been waiting for C&Rsenal to get here almost since the 1st episode when I saw your chosen focus and realized "Someday, Othais will go there!" All I can add is "Much obliged my friend!"

Bruce Brodnax

Thanks to Luis and Victor for their part in this production

Douglas Killock

According to Wikipedia he was born in 1859 so that must be right?

Douglas Killock

An awesome episode! I love the Mondragon stock, the double stack enbloc, the double click that acts as a magazine cutoff and last but not least, the fascinating 5.2 mm round. 2700FPS WOW!

Alfred Gallo

Thanks heaps Luis and Victor

Minion

Was Mondragon born in 1850 or 1859 you have a conflict from what Othis said and the slide of Mondragon 1850-1922

Brett Pasquinelli

Really cool episode. You mention Mondragon being born 1859, but graphic lists 1850.

Paul Tusting-Ironmonger Arms

Outstanding!

Mic

That's badass! I love you guy's work. Keep it up 😄
