In case anyone was amused: 'The Volunteer Officers' Decoration, post-nominal letters VD, was instituted in 1892 as an award for long and meritorious service by officers of the United Kingdom's Volunteer Force. Award of the decoration was discontinued in the United Kingdom when it was superseded by the Territorial Decoration in 1908, but it continued to be awarded in some Crown Dependencies until 1930.'

2023-12-05 13:40:43 +0000 UTCThe person drawing it understands perspective, that's quite clear. I think they're quite pretty, and more importantly, very typical sketches of the era. Drawing with a fountain pen is fiddly to say the least, and produces a quality of line like we see in the scans.

Also I’m not sure if the person drawing it doesn’t understand perspective or if the features in background are the same as the foreground to make it clear what you’re looking at/eluding to. It’s really interesting though
