Unloading Podcast 86 - Part 1

Comments

Just watched Ivan and Matt’s video on the Garand. Funny.

Alan Carr

As a person who has way too many t-shirts, but still gets all the t-shirts every year.. I would love to have a way to donate a lump sum directly when I could. Executive Producer (Associate Producer, Key Grip, or Water Boy) would be a great reward that wouldn't add to the amount of stuff I have.

Scott Ripley

Coins are available for 100 at about $5.50 each. Price can vary somewhat, depending on features. https://military-and-le-patches.myshopify.com/collections/custom-designs/products/dumpster-fire i have ordered patches from them never custom but they seem like a solid company and worth looking into for the coins since they seem to offer them

ALI

Is there an amount to give to get Unfiltered Othais on products he dislikes?

Chairman

You probably do not want to hear it, but the key to growth in any market is to not let perfection get in the way of good. The 80-20 rule is the gospel that should be followed. I'm not saying to compromise principals in any way, just take a look at the return. That, and some clever marketing. Maybe you and Ian put little inside jokes in the videos..

Brian Foster

Dude, name the goal, I want the crozier coin!

Shaun Keckler

I was thinking about the challenge coin thing, and what you could do to alleviate materials costs is make then brass and see if anybody wants to donate used casings. It's thematically appropriate, and it's not like a lot of it is valuable or reloadable in the first place. But if I were in a position to meaningfully help with the endeavor, I'd have offered already.

Halinspark

DMs and direct email are the best way to take care of these! Check your inbox!

C&Rsenal

Where can I make a one time donation?

Jeremy Karnes

No, he can't legally bring ammo from out of state (even gulag inmates, er, "CA residents" can't buy ammo from out of state & bring it home,) he can't buy it here because of the PRK background check on ammo purchases, & I don't think anyone can even *give* him ammo once he gets here because of our B.S. unconstitutional laws here behind the Granola Curtain. Hopefully Saint Benitez will have handed down a ruling [for the *THIRD* time!] eliminating the PRK gun, mag & ammo bans the day before the C&Rsenal crew arrives and we'll have a week of sanity while they're here before things revert back to stupid again...

Bruce Brodnax

Have you got a good public library near you? You may be able to get some of the OOPs from interlibrary loan. Not that I'm advocating breaching copyright by scanning an entire book, but if the publisher can't keep something in print, is it really deserving of copyright protection? Just sayin'...

Bruce Brodnax

At least we’re not as bad as New York, who’d arrest you on the spot for having a pistol. But also you wouldn’t want to bring your Bergmann (assault weapon pistol for having a magazine outside the pistol grip) or air service rifle (assault weapon for having a fixed magazine above 10 rounds)

Toastmeister

Welp. Good point.

Sander Vreuls

This episode made me want to send Othias random crap and gaslight people. Also you are not kidding, over-engagement is a thing, from Alabama here and have full conversations with the Publix and Walmart staff every time I am in there. Very Southern.

Will Harper

I know the feeling I've been buying and selling property in the Raleigh Durham area of NC and homes I used to be able to buy for 130k are now 300k ish or higher.

joseph howerton

So, so strange and alien

C&Rsenal

Either. The short answer is we need more space but we don't have the money

C&Rsenal

Any time we produce a list of good only available on the used market, we create more competitors than helpers by about 100 to 1

C&Rsenal

The hope would be to at least handle the gas trap Garand. Springfield still has a lot in one place though, unlike the 1911 issue. Fewer produced iterations too

C&Rsenal

Good idea but I have a feeling we would get arguments about which # they got

C&Rsenal

If C&R gets on Ian's app, that whole lot could do coins.

John Thomas

There were a lot of flapper locked soviet weapons.

David K. Jernigan

Not to mention the competing designs to the Garand like Pedersen, Johnson, etc.

David K. Jernigan

The challenge coin thing, etc. is way better than the mass shilling by every channel for olight, or the use my affiliate links on lex luthors amazon blah, blah, blah garbage.

David K. Jernigan

For corporate sponsors, potential similar vein as Ballistol would be Lubriplate grease. It's maybe not the best grease out there, but it's the historically correct Garand grease.

Colburn Freml

As someone from California (and also near taofledermaus), you’re right about the destination protections about FOPA. But a standard Luger with < 10 round magazine should be fine to bring as long as you keep it unloaded and in a separate locked container assuming you’re driving here. Also California doesn’t reciprocate ccw permits with anyone else, so the only people who can carry here are California residents. You’d also need to bring any ammo if you plan on shooting, because out of state residents can’t buy ammo here either…

Toastmeister

Now, if you want to go crazy with the coins, get the other history gun-tubers to make coins as well so we have to collect them all. Isn't Ian collecting that list already for his app?

Sam Taylor

For the coins I'd recommend just number them and, at the most, have a ledger on your site with a name associated with a number (ie. Coin 205 - Joe Blow).

Sam Taylor

Lugers should be fine to have in California. Older guns that aren’t an assault weapon is fine.

George William Herbert

Hypothetically would yall be looking for a separate structure for C&Rsenal stuff or an entirely new home?

joseph howerton

Would an Amazon or other shop wishlist for research material be an option? So people could one-time donate a book? Only suitable for "easily" purchasable books offc.

Sander Vreuls

The 1911 is a llllloooonnnngggg chapter in gun history, how much fun is the Garand gonna to be to follow from birth to ping myth?

John Thomas

MAS 1944 is also a tilting bolt rifle.

Charles McCormack

The SVT-40 is flapper locked, not tipping bolt. That's the AG-42. The G43 is also flapper locked.

Charles McCormack

Maybe also sneak the executive producers in a news scroll on the top of the lightbox graphics or some other graphics earlier in the episode.
