Small Arms Primer 170: US Remington No.3

Frankly this kept happening. Both WWI and WWII had to relearn it

I know Mae has extensive experience with firing heavy rifle cartridges. But those full-brass buckshot rounds still don't look like fun. Like a modern 3" magnum slug. I've shot some of the later H&R/Sears break actions in 12 and 10 ga and those phenolic butt pads and light shotgun combos are just abusers. The only way I can describe it is "kadoosh!"

Also, if they used brass shell buckshot shotgun carts successfully in the steamy jungles in the 1900s, why on earth did they send paper carts to the soggy trenches at the end of the Great War?! And then act all confused when it didn't work?

My choice? Snider carbine in .577, could always run buckshot in the chamber on patrol, with normal minie ball in the pouch for longer engagements.

I love these little oddities of history.
