(though I would loooove a browning long 1907!)

Norway, having the largest trading fleet wanted a designated Norwegian foreign consulate service. The Swedish maintained that foreign policy was the providence of the King (i.e. Sweden). As part of this struggle, it was important for Norway to maintain separate institutions and armed forces. This political battle would rage for 20 years, eventually ending in a peaceful, if not entirely amicable Norwegian secession in 1905.
