Othais and Mae talk about the show schedule, local SC shows, thrower retrievals from overseas, Mae's roller coaster of emotions for King of the Hill, and more!

Comments

Not worried about spoilers either. Often takes me hearing something twice for it to sink in.

Glenn Miller

Mae - I appreciate your description of running! I hate it too and it never gets better. But it is a good exercise.

Glenn Miller

Happy with my shirts.

Robin Roberts

I’m wearing my Shut Up, Kevin! t-shirt as I listen to this.

Ryan D Thorne

Question, have you thought about reaching out to local colleges or universities to see if there is an intern program you can be a part of? He intern is usually motivated as they are gaining experience and this would be part of their grade. It’s also generally less expensive then a normal hire.

Derald Bethard

Just no time to work through the footage and see if we have it or not yet.

C&Rsenal

As a home gunsmith I would really enjoy hearing more about the work that gets done to the pieces and that type of behind the scenes stuff so yeah spoilers would be fine

ScooterBean

Would love to see Othais just get sent a full gun piece by piece and through the podcast 🤣

ScooterBean

Spoilers are OK - but maybe make them into a foreshadowing or here is what you can expect when the video is posted. Also, what happened to the Traps? Has Kevin been banned from the set :)

Brian Foster

I received my shirts last week. Thanks... they look great!

Brian Foster

WRT KotH, if anyone else regrets the untimely demise of Brittany Murphy [voice of Luanne] and hasn't seen it yet, I can recommend _Ramen Girl_, which was a low budget flick she starred in shortly before she passed; it's nothing for the ages, but an entertaining & heartwarming story.

Bruce Brodnax

I wouldn't mind any spoilers..As much as I like the podcasts i'm always yearning for just alittle bit more gun stuff in the podcasts..I know that the podcast is your guys time to flush everything on your mind, but I feel as patrons we should get alittle extra gun content..whatever it may be, even if its just what the next primer might be. I can't wait for my Ta-Pum shirt to come in..it will go well with the old yellow Mannlicher shirt. Can I say this though..I can't stand the color yellow and I STILL bought that shirt because I had to have it. And I've worn the shirt once. On a date with my now current girlfriend. She liked the color.

Dylan Latour

I don't care much about spoilers, as they only whet the anticipation for the next episode. Personally, I would think to see these podcasts as a stream of consciousness, a literal flushing of your brain, so the tangents, the frustration, and the general cleansing of what one has to do to knowledge dump for a C&Rsenal episode is a necessity.

Looking for extension springs? Go to NAPA or O'reilly's and ask for throttle return springs. Dorman makes a couple of kits with what you need. If that fails, check out Mcmaster-Karr.

Ivanovitch2885

Not really concerned with "spoilers" for the primers. No matter how similar the two conversations are, they will still be entertaining in both the podcast and episode.

Matt Rio

No need to send the extractor back! The story on it is that it came out of a .22 that I picked up cheap from a flea market years ago. That Mossberg has dual extractors. One of them was broken when I bought the gun. Numrich at the time sold both the right and left as a pair so I changed both out.(I don't recall if the one I sent is left or right) The one I sent has been in a drawer of my disorganized organizer for a decade or better. I was working on cleaning up the organizer and thought I would try and confound you two.

Adam Lewis

My T Shirts arrived today!!! Thank you! My wife and kids don’t get them…. They don’t know who Sam Colt was, Ta-Pum… forget it, they don’t understand the significance of the T-Gewehr and sadly, my wife wondered if Cycle of Violence was for the first drive-by shooting…sigh… although, envisioning the mechanics of someone attempting to use this splendid, two wheeled, death machine for the first drive-by does make me laugh.

Loren Hermanson

There is the vocal minority and then the actual, reactive majority it seems. Generally most patrons don't even listen to the podcasts or read the posts! I'm sorry about the Webley, but we'll get to it eventually!

There is a good selection of extension springs simalar to your description in this index. It is super cheap & some of these shops in SC. They do have a zinc plating look, but even a brown sharpie would mellow it (maybe even some shoe polish):

I like spoilers

Project Lightening is definitely the hallmark for cross-over content, but I think Othais said at one point they're *still* waiting for it to pay off. [sigh] Too bad more viewers don't share our excellent taste in content!

Bruce Brodnax

"Mae's Doubleshot." Keep the Minute of Mae [they're great ads for the full episodes] but having something between the advert and long-format might pay off handsomely as a means of making Al Gore's rhythm section play up the channel mo' betta.

Bruce Brodnax

I don't mind "spoilers" at all :). I would still enjoy the episodes with probably little to no deminishing effects.

Talking about the future on the podcast wouldn't bother me any. It doesn't subtract from the quality of future episodes at all. Also, it isn't a big deal to reiterate a story once in a while. Some of us have goldfish brains. And lastly, the podcast makes me feel like I'm sitting with some buds, and i love them.

"[Unfortunately our channel was near-collapse with the delay and we were losing patron support. Most commenters are very forgiving but most viewers are not!]" I am sorry, I didn't realise that you were loosing Patreon members & your sickness and recovery were having such a financial impact. I live in North Wales. UK and I have been interested in firearms from around 1900 to present day. With the massive restrictions on the ownership of any hand gun illegal and long arms restricted to those who have a justifiable use for one and a firearms licence is required for an air rifle with a mussel velocity over 12ftlbs. The one I had in 1975-78 had a mussel velocity of 25ftlbs and was considered about adequate for rabbit and other crop pests. Getting to see originals being fired and having a concise and as exact a development history, with all the detail that goes into your programs is far greater than any other channel covering your time period. As a child I remember my father having a Webley .38 revolver which he gave up in the late 1960's all I ever wanted was the chance to fire it! Keep up the good work, hopefully my 3 T shirts will arrive soon and I will continue to support you as I can with my limited spare funds as I have them.

Paul Amos

I’d like to hear about upcoming guns. I think it’s more of a teaser than a spoiler and you could just give a quick warning before going into detail to anyone that might not want to hear.

Vindicavi

Out by Seattle here, just finished this podcast then my wife tells me my shirts came in. I cant wait to wear my ta pum

Shaun Keckler

I’m fine with spoilers. I just like to hear you too talking. It’s oddly calming since it’s like being in a conversation with friends

Brock Gouett

Bring on the spoilers! It gives us more to look forward to and personally I watch the videos for all the detailed history - so all of that will not be spoiled.

Jim G

As for spoilers I don’t really mind it also opens up a lot more room for comparing to firearms outside the scope of the show. Like comparing to a 60s era revolver or even comparing to a civilian gun of similar vintage like an iver Johnson .32 or a British bulldog

Aulani Counsman

Spoilers would not bug me--I'd think of them a teasers, not spoilers. On Bigfoot--even better would be allowing players to rarely take videos of Bigfoot but then have the replay be blurry or not show Bigfoot at all.

Leonard Heinz

Every good live stream has pre-recorded PSAs. I'd love to see some fun gun PSAs from y'all during the live show.

Joseph Corsei

That is a good point; but, I guess, it depends on how much you learn from the podcast? If Mae said: "The Zimbigbang Spanish clone was a nightmare to load, but I just loved the tigger pull and the sight picture!" I think I would be more likely to watch the Zimbigbang Spanish Clone; and once I'd seen the rough cut I want to see it polished (sorry, but I talk fancy when I am drunk; again).

Bradwan

As for spoilers, I watch the pre-releases and I watch them again on regular YouTube release, so if the topic is covered in the podcast it may prevent me from watching the regular release if I have already heard the same thoughts on a particular piece two times.

James Zak

It depends on the gun, my 1907 prefers having a small bit of rim for positive ejection, as I was getting cases caught in the receiver using .223 brass, but others have reported that it runs find in their guns. FWIW, my best luck has been had with .360 DW brass shortened to 1.380” and the rim turned to .405”, CCI small rifle primer and 18.5gr IMR4227 under a 180gr .351” Berry’s plated bullet.

Hunter Compton

Finished listening to this a couple hours ago and was excited to hear shirts were shipping. Checked the mailbox a few minutes ago, and there it was. So excited for my Cycle of Violence shirt. (Sorry Othais)

Chris Becker

I've heard mixed things about 223

C&Rsenal

Unfortunately our channel was near-collapse with the delay and we were losing patron support. Most commenters are very forgiving but most viewers are not!

C&Rsenal

But then they will be weirdly shiny

C&Rsenal

I think most of us who support the show(s) were hoping some of the perks would include spoilers. I don't think it would affect whether or not we watch the whole episode.

Boomersparky

At the end for the 2nd time. Mis-understood the spoiler thing. I really won't mind hearing impressions on here, because I will have either totally forgotten what she said, or confused which gun she was talking about, then get surprised then get nicely surprised by what she actually said.

Bradwan

Listened again and there's no guinea pig, or woods walk in this episode

Bradwan

7.62x39 can be used as a parent case to form .401 WSL, but the case head is too large for .351. .223 Remington, .360 Dan Wesson or .357 Maximum are best suited to forming .351 WSL.

Hunter Compton

Dang it, Bobby - Edit: Yes there is brass 7.62x39 (PPU, Federal). It will be expensive but some of us have once-fired brass that we can ship to your PO box if you really want to try converting it.

Mark Clement

Thanks for the Chrimmas card, y'all. That was nice.

Dino

Curiously, I just re-watched the entirety of Project Lightening a few days ago. Great content - probably my favourite!

John French

A welcome one to be sure

JD92

Great episode! Wait until Mae watches the episode where Cotton gives Bobby a shotgun for his birthday, or when he tries to sell Hitler’s canoe.

Christian Hanes

Thank you for the Christmas card! And I got the shirts - I applaud your insistence on producing higher quality stuff - be that video content or t-shirts!

VintagePhone

Ditto. That was a crazy surprise.

James McKenzie

I have no problem with spoilers, but I prefer not at have them adding length to primer episodes; your shooting segments are one of the best bits of each primer (after "War were declared"). However: the shooting segments seem to take around one to two minutes anyway, so if you could combine talking and shooting to make a '2 minutes of Mae' without more editing it might makes things easier for you.

Bradwan

Thanks for the Christmas card, I wasn't expecting it.

JD92

I'm fine with spoilers. But , honestly, having avidly consumed every episode you've cranked out since well before Mae came on full time and then dialing back to the beginning to fill out the experience I'll most likely watch whatever you produce.

Wayne Dygert

I don't really care either way if you tweak the format, myself. If you add ergonomic commentary to the shooting segments, maybe keep it to simple first impressions/reactionary observations and expand on them in the Maeversations, so it's not super redundant later? Then you can spoil a little, and then expand on it at the end.

Halinspark

Personally from your output and trying to catch up, why not put one out every 10 days(ish) rather than weekly until such time as you have a good enough buffer of shows to revert to weekly. Otherwise you'll be chasing your tails every time something disrupts you planned schedule. I'm sure that the majority would support such a move to ensure the longer term continuation without repeated periods of either illness, burnout or anything else out of the blue. Regarding spoiler's, as you won't be going through the whole program just describing some of the usability aspects I can't see that being a problem for many and those who do can skip forward past that part. Keep up the great work and I hope you manage to get where you want to be without it affecting your health.

Paul Amos

As for shorter episodes taking longer to produce; as George Bernard Shaw once said, "If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter" or maybe it was Blaise Pascal or maybe Mark Twain or indeed Cicero, you know how it is trying to tie down attributing something to someone, eh Othias?

Mad Mitch

For the spring, try a hardware store. Im sure you could find one that works with the door hardware.

Halinspark

Boy I tell ya hwhat
