Part 1: The Big Update: We're Alive but the show will be Delayed

Today's podcast, of course, will cover a lot of tiddly details around the sickness and our schedule interruption.

If you'd like to avoid the multi hour update, there is the quick summary:
We lost a LOT of time off the schedule.  We're still a bit hazy.  At least one episode is going to be missed and probably a 2nd.  A lot of our production is skill based and recovery is a vague process that's hard to pin on the calendar.

We'll continue to keep you guys updated and hurry things along as best we can.  Regular episodes will be back soon.  Sorry for the interruption!

Part two is attached, but we'll also post it individually for those of you who use the feed feature.

James McKenzie

Yeah, stomach does bring up 02. I tried it out.

C&Rsenal

This podcast is probably the most comprehensive breakdown of symptoms and actionable treatment advise I've heard about covid EVER.

David Grunt

Blue Moon's a great beer, one of the best you can find regularly in the non-hipster liquor stores. Also Coors Banquet.

Joseph Corsei

When my dad had the 'vid, his doctor told him to lie on his stomach because lying on his back was impeding breathing. I'd say it damn near saved him, among other things including his burning desire to be not dead. The "Get up!" advice is real shit. Glad y'all are doing better.

Joseph Corsei

Yeah, people are getting pretty pushy with each other on this one.

C&Rsenal

Thank

C&Rsenal

Brain fog lasted weeks after fever. I don't think it's possible to hide out for a month without human contact. Socializing actually sped up clearing the fog.

C&Rsenal

Nah, we're recovering and will get back to every other week. Just gotta get enough time to build up the momentum for it to stick.

C&Rsenal

Thank!

C&Rsenal

*worst instincts

C&Rsenal

Yeah, Mae's point was if it isn't the lungs it's gotta be circulation.

C&Rsenal

Glad you made it!

C&Rsenal

thank!

C&Rsenal

To be fair I went to Florida over labor day unexpectedly to an AFB for a volunteer thing (non military). I was convinced I was gonna die in thatstate. NOBODY was wearing a mask except me and my buddy. Insane. Desantis is an idiot². Didn't die though. Idk man I got lucky.

Andrew Smelser

I honestly don't care how long it takes you guys just please take care of yourselves. I don't mind the episode delay it's fine really. I support you guys here because you are so transparent and hard working. Give yourselves a bit of a break and take it easy for one whole day really. Go teach ducks about wwi or something idk what ever floats your boat. Edit: damnit Kevin. Had a guy in the airport yesterday go off on a woman asking if she had the vax when she asked him to put a mask on. I told him to chill or fuck off. Then he asked me. I told him to chill or fuck off. This happened several times. I enjoyed his pissed-off-ness. Lol. Don't ask people about personal medical stuff. It is none of your fucking business :) Blue moon is the only good beer out there. Fight me let's go.

Andrew Smelser

Sounds like they were pretty sick to me with the brain fog, personality change and taste change, given their retelling of ordering the nachos and beer, I didn't realize you could still be pretty sick with COVID and not be infectious.

Royeaux

This was AFTER they were cleared by their Doc as not contagious. At that point they couldn't get anyone else sick, so why stay cooped up if they didn't need to be?

TankDestroyerSarge

damn cool user name you've got.

Guido Schriewer

I'm glad you're all feeling better and that no one was seriously ill or hospitalized. But please don't give up the day job to do medical research analysis. It sounds like Kevin and you all were incredibly reckless and irresponsible with your health decisions. Florida is averaging thousands of new cases and more than 300 deaths a day. You travel to Florida and come home sick, it's COVID.

Michael J Maresca

Someone needs to make memes with Kevin's face photoshopped on the plague monkey from outbreak

History&Coffee

Glad your feeling better guys...

Dave Burke

I'm not trying to be political, but I do question the utilitarian wisdom of going out for BBQ while having COVID. When I returned to the US from Europe in March 2020 during the travel shutdown, I was told to self-quarantine for 14 days despite not being sick. Perhaps I misunderstood and you guys had gotten those Nachos as take-out, in which case nevermind.

Royeaux

I'd rather y'all go to a video release schedule of "once every three weeks" than keel over by working yourselves to death.

Daikken

I enjoy the shorts and I watch the full episodes as they come out. Also, look after yourselves :-)

GWTpict

Much as I totally agree with M.M. I'm of the opinion that society (such as she's devolved to be) has become all too confrontational and for no good reason(s). As such my standard answer to any and all that pose questions that are none of their GDMF business, is very a simple and polite, "no comment"!

Mustafa's Fleas

I know exactly how you feel othais when it comes to not eating when sick. Every time I’m sick I can’t eat even though I know I need to, which like you said just keeps spiraling

Jacob Solver

Fuck off is the appropriate response to someone who asks your vaccination status.

Milsurp Mike

Good to hear your household is coof proof. I'm glad patient zero (Kevin) is recovering as well. Your experience with your oxygen saturation and the medical communities mixed response to it is fascinating. I'm a paramedic in a rural community and what I've been taught is if it is below a certain threshold drive faster and apply oxygen. We are far enough from the hospital that patients usually have a chance to take a snooze if it's a late call, and I've seen first hand how quickly an oxygen saturation can drop if the patient is asleep and has an underlying condition. I can only act according to my license level when I'm on the clock, but it does give me some food for thought if I end up with the coof at home. Good on Mae for yelling at Othias, food, fluids, and light movement to get the circulation going are very important for recovering from most illnesses.

Red

Oh dang, I'm glad to hear it!

C&Rsenal

Having lost both of my own parents years ago, I'm sorry to hear this and sincerely wish you the best in dealing with your loss.

C&Rsenal

oof

C&Rsenal

my bad

C&Rsenal

Yeah, I really like those quick and dirties. Time, time time...

C&Rsenal

Jesus man

C&Rsenal

+1 on the get up and move. Had the C last November and forcing myself to move helped immensely. Glad y'all are feeling better.

Adam Lewis

👊

S. Evan Howie

Sorry you all got sick, but very glad to hear that you got through it.

Glenn Miller

I am dropping back in to say that I *really* appreciate that you brought Clifton Hicks to my attention. As an autist, I always thought that making music would be outside my reach--I'm just not wired for it--but that guy's emphasis on it being *individual* changed my world. I literally can't thank you enough.

James McKenzie

I love the clips!

Old Man Winter

For my wife and I, we completely lost our senses of taste and smell. Weirdest thing I have ever experienced!

Dr. B

you guys' work is appreciated, and no one can blame you for having to miss a couple episodes after getting en-plagued. rest and recover, hope you're feeling better soon guys!

Eric McKenney

try a shot of Tennesee honey in a cup of hot tea. if it does not make you feel better try two and you won't care. sorry to hear about the sickness, get well soon, don't worry about us. we will be here when you get back on track!

jeffere a fradsham

Glad y'all are doing better. I just lost my mother to COVID and her symptoms started out like Othais'.

Cam W

Stock holders meeting, pardon the pun

John Stucchi

Oh no! No new episode, I guess we will just have to watch some of the hundreds of hours of history we've forgotten about over the course of your fine show. Oh and get more rest all of you.

Fasda

Othais & Mae, dont you stress yourselves out about the episode releases. You just get better, and do the best y'all can. Im increasing patreon support again because I believe in your work.

Gage

Wishing all of you a quick recovery. But take your time & don't rush back in to work. I had covid last November. It knocked me on my butt. I can wait extra for the episodes; don't want y'all getting sicker.

WeakNinja661

The danger is that by trying to jump back on the wagon full tilt ASAP, you cement in decades of Chronic Fatigue for yourself :(

Biggles

There seemed to be more swearing in this episode. I approve.

Jack Fairbrother

Nice to be updated, and I completely understand that you may at times fall behind schedual when you are making so much great content with such a small team. Also, I understand why you stay away from political issues, which vaccines apparently are in some places, given you have an audience from many different places, and presumably with wildly differing political views. Best of luck, and hope you get healthy soon.

Bendik Nilsen Bergendal

I worry that you know what petrol tastes like well enough to use as a reference.

tenofprime

Yes, I like and watch Clips. It's a nice, specific dive into firearms technology. For me, they are a nice complement to Primer, which covers the broad history of a specific series of firearms.. Glad to hear everyone is recovering. Take care of yourselves.

Jason

Indeed, I know the impulse as soon as you get the all clear to to just jump back in full speed but it takes a toll on you so ease back in. These guns have been there for over a century, they can wait a bit longer for you guys to get your strength back.

tenofprime

It took me down for 2 weeks with 100 degree fever (37 celcius) and just enough energy to walk across a small room before sitting down. That was last December and truthfully my energy level has still not reset fully. I had the benefit of a mother who has decades of medical experience so we monitored it over the phone and my symptoms were of the type that really were not bad enough for an ER trip. All we could do was self isolate and ride it out, keeping a close eye on the fever or any new symptoms that might pop up.

tenofprime

COVID talk end 66 mins in. Edit: I just used surplused 4 hours ago to read your nice swiss and mannlicher line drawing article that put them all in order. Maybe a do one for the 1911 in the same format and mention it in the upcoming series because I love that simple format for jogging my memory.

Primarch359

same here, more than once I have lost an hour or 2 because I felt like rewatching the full episodes. I would like to see them in a playlist for easy finding.

tenofprime

Regarding the feedback on the shorts. I personally quite like them, sometimes I don't have a time do digest a full episode and like 5-10 minute video is a perfect little bite sized info segment and kinda makes me want to rewatch the main episodes

Wyatt Haywood

You forgot hydrate!

Curtis Handsaker

Glad you're all alive. Love you guys and your product, take care of yourselves and keep doing what you love!

David Axel Hansen

Health first!

ben hengst

Feel better soon guys ❤❤

Evan Williamson

Yours made everything taste like Sand? Mine made any soft drink taste like petrol. Strange world 😅

Tom Godwin

Get better folks ❤️❤️ - remembering that the main successful way of recovering from CFS is to *NOT OVERDO IT TOO EARLY*

Biggles

Hope you feel better soon, look after yourselves!

Brad Johnson

Unacceptable. Put a band-aid on it. 800mg Motrin. Change your socks. Get back to work… 😎

S. Evan Howie

I am roughly Othasis aged and shaped, and I was bed ridden with it for almost three weeks. I know you want to get back to work, but please keep resting.
