It's a Trap!

Yes, the regular program will be listed here in just a few hours.  But for now, enjoy this, our newest and worst series!

This time we've tried to build something ultra light; a show that required the minimum effort to produce in order to stretch our minds and, hopefully, start making content IN ADDITION to Primer.

This is a prototype and will not be released to the public for a week, so let us know how you feel about it!

It's a Trap!

Comments

I've never seen Dominion! I know of Dupont and Rimco and St Etienne and Manufrance

C&Rsenal

I'm coming in a bit late to this but I have a question . There are several of these with different names on them, I have one with Dominion instead of Dupont. Were they all manufactured by one company with a different name substituted as required?

Kimzter

Another fine product brought to you by the Carcano Folding Bayonet Mechanism Factory...✌

Eric Mueller

So happy you posted this on the YouTube for the world to see. What a hoot. That contraption is bonkers; can’t wait for the next one.

Matt

I need one of these! I have a shotgun and 30 acres, and I would like to learn trap without the embarrassment of a club situation!

Dominic Amann

That was great! I own a DuPont hand trap, bayonet thrust, who knew. Now mine works too. I'm looking forward to the next video. I'll share this with the high school trap team I coach. I see new viewers on the horizon. Keep up the good work. P.S. Mae deserves a raise.

Matthew

Lord help you, if you have "furry" forearms.

Lowell Wong

This was fun.

Gunner Dupree

Poor Mae

Steve Knopf

Very funny. That thing is horrid, I want one. It reminds me of an old wooden handled thrower I had; cocking was similarly terrifying and then you had to give it a baseball-bat grip, swing with the elbows and give it a good flick of the wrists at just the right moment, otherwise it might launch early or late or hang-fire. I looked for it after watching this but I think I broke down and threw it away.

Mr. Lee

A quick Google says 100 shells would be around $1.88 and $3-4 would get you a most bare bones shotgun, or $12-25 would get you something name brand.

Patrick Hunt

I'll not win any popularity contest with thi post but there is no way I'll watch another 15 min. video of 3 people goofing around with a futon spring on a stick. A more comprehensive history combined with a short shooting demo of different models would be interesting but not this. Sorry.

Alfred Gawron

Great fun- thanks for taking the 'point' on this little segment of history. I am relatively new to the series and enjoy the format and depth of your presentations. I still haven't found out how to get to the new presentations. I am working up in order (up to the Lee-Enfield's) and am looking forward to your future work! PS- I would buy a hat.......

Robert Freligh

Give the little lady a kewpie doll. Frankly have never seen a hand thrower that wasn’t an ouchie waiting to happen.

Richard Anderson

Inflation often does not reflect buying power, so knowing what an entry level gun, a case of ammo, and a box of clays cost at the time makes it relatable in a "would I spend 1/x of a gun or Y shells worth on it?"

Andrey Gardner

No semi pistol grip, hand guard, aperture sights, and it run as reliably smooth as a Mosin or refurb Nagant... I cannot imagine anything better than the softest yes.

Andrey Gardner

Loved it and i am sure everybody who is a regular viewer will love it just for the fun you are having. Its addictive. I don't know how many new viewers you are going to get, but on the other hand you are aparently the very first in this nieche. If you could get more data later on sales numbers or something that visualizes the relevance of the different designs, it would be great. But i guess that kind of data is probably made of unobtainium in many cases. Last but not least, there is one very essetial part missing: the question we all want to get answered: "would you take that into battle?" ;)

fi

So... which is scarier, 6 rounds, rapid, through this thing, or a full clip through a 6.5mm Vetterli?

Christopher Dooley

That looked like fun! We need an animation

we are hiding from the YT censor with this

C&Rsenal

yeah, these are made to be fast so we can do them at all

C&Rsenal

ducking YT censors

C&Rsenal

The $4 isn't that bad when you consider that trap shooting was a rich man's sport at the time. Normal folk had to justify the cost of shells with food on the table while a 'rich' landowner has both disposable income for a trap like this, the clays, and the shells to shoot the clays without worrying about his next meal.

Tiger in man's clothing

Enjoyed the fun. Great distraction and entertainment too. About the right length. Maybe Mae or Kevin take a shot at a clay with an era shotgun?

John Fugedy

I would have liked slightly more structured/formal history and operation segments, but the more informal and congenial tone of the rest of the video was fun. Great job!

Zak

In 1913, $4 was about $105-$106. That's as far back as the internet will do inflation. A comparison to the shotgun itself, shells, and clays would be interesting.

Zak

I'm going to second the 'how much is $4 worth today' and 'how many shotgun shells could this buy' comments. More close ups on the device itself would be nice too - seeing it in action is fantastic, but I miss the usually patented plastic pokey examination.

Steven Faiello

just being goofy on the range. never gets old.

Guido Schriewer

I'll be perfectly honest, hand trap+weird mechanical looking thing got me excited for some kind "sticking a broom handle in it and watching it get snapped off" kind of action. But this is nice too...

Jake Samson

Is the pilot for Determined Idiots? The lack of light box, animation, and a Kev-ersation instead of a Mae-verstion feels unfamiliar. I think it will be a great companion piece to the shotgun series. As an engineer by education I immediately want to analyze this contraption, and lack the necessary parameters to do so. Also, to put costs in perspective, how many shotgun shells or clays would $4 buy at the time? Lastly, why is there not a C&Rsenal hat that Mae could be demoing? It throws me off to see branding that is not yours or the artifact's during the presentation. If only there was some publicly accessible of vector art of the logo around...

Andrey Gardner

Loved it, the back. And forth between participants, the history of the item including pictures of old advertisements, all in one neat and somewhat tidy package. Great stuff, do more!

Patrick Bartholomew

It's always a bit of a shock to see the scale differential when two sasquatches encounter a normal sized person. Great to see you guys having fun but a bit of a letdown to discover that Mae throws lol a girl!

Wayne Dygert

Fascinating!

Matteo Manino

Looking forward to the rest of the series! As for the jokes about kids, my dad made the same observation about what he was allowed to do, compared to what he allowed me to do. Turns out, he might have been a bit more replaceable.

Karl Abrahamson

I like the concept, in comparison to the full course meal that is Primer, this is a nifty snack (and your shotgun takedown vids are pieces of candy).

John Boy

It was great to see you guys having fun, and the video was totally entertaining - the off-colour jokes near the end had me weeping with laughter - which is strange because as a 21st century citizen of the West I've been drilled to seize on every possible opportunity to be outraged at other people's behaviour on someone/something else's behalf. KUTGW!

Jules Whicker

I always forget how little Mae is in comparison. Also I had no idea how this thing worked based on the fb post, and now I do. So I guess that's a win.

David Herman

No shooty shooty ? Still, it was interesting to take a look a this thing

Samuel Pasche

this time, just don't do it wrong... words of wisdom from the peanut gallery

Leslie Alexander

Absolutely love this, from the obscure gadget to the lighter tone still with serious history behind it. More!

Greg Stachowski

That could be a exclusive C&Rsenal merch item right there! "Now featuring the C&Rsenal patented metal face-masher! Give it to your friend, laugh as they struggle! Throw clays at your enemies! "

Gage

A thing of beauty and a joy forever. And the clay slinger isn't bad either....

KF5TQN

That was a good video. That thing is terrifying. I have to wonder if it was even scarier back when the spring was new and stronger.

Brian Smith

That was a lot of fun to watch! I currently shoot trap & that contraption is terrifying. Glad we have automatic throwers now.

WeakNinja661

Mae Responding: I've seen a few people now mention wanting one, would not be surprised if we just caused all the ones for sale to get bought up. They really are a fun toy to bring to the range.

C&Rsenal

That looks so dangerous. I’m buying one off eBay now.

John Horton

Doesn’t Bruno feel left out, not being asked to create an animation of the device? :) I wish I could remember what kind of hand thrower my dad had.

David Hemsath

That's so cool... And frightening

TheOlsonOutfit

while the trap was cool, it was nice just seeing the three of you have a good time

Clovis Chitwood

Mitchell made them? Did he stamp fake markings on them too? lol. Good vid on an obscure topic.

sea_dart

You know, I never even thought about the evolution of clay throwers, so I think that this is a good side series since no-one is recording this history. It seems linked to firearms history in bird hunting, which ties into american sporting history and american hunting

Gage

After listening to one of the Unloaded episodes when you talked about these, actually seeing one really rams home how terrifying they are. People were tougher back then.

Ian F

Man that looks like a fun day at the range.

Cobra Commander

OSHA does not approve of that device. I personally approve of this video, and the others to follow.

Ryan D Thorne

That was a lot of fun, although the garage door spring and a bit of wire and cast iron construction makes me understand why Michael Caine and Robert Duvall were so eager to buy one that used a ratcheting lever to cock the action in Secondhand Lions

Chris Stochaj

Love it. Its nice to see you guys having a good time and cracking jokes, while covering, frankly a forgotten part of early sporting clay shooting. I will for sure enjoy watching these.

Malix007

I've seen those before, but never thought much about them. Now, I want one...

NekoGhost

Wow, nice!
