Othais and Mae talk about recent video uploads, hand trap finds, toys from Othais's childhood, and more.

Comments

Just having listened to the start, and admittedly being waaaaay late to the topic, I do still want to say, in my personal opinion in perfectly fine for you guys to complain about the troubles you have on this podcast. This podcast is for the people who genuinely care, no?

Michel Lachs

As a Patreon who never really checks Patreon a plus is now I have a glut of content to go through 👍

Jonathan Sullivan

Starcom was amazing until the little magnets fell out of the feet and you couldn't stick them to the fridge anymore.

History&Coffee

Hey Othias, don’t worry about the moaning at the start, you do you man :)

Tom Godwin

Stompers! I had a bunch of those when I was a kid.

Ryan Case

I've had one of those weird email exchanges in the past. I bought an M27 Lebel from someone off gunboards, and when it arrived I had 7.5 French go and no-go gauges to verify it was a 7.5x54, and not one of the experimental x57 guns. I ran the bolt home on the first one, went to unchamber it, and nothing came out. This was when I realized the gun was straight up missing it's extractor, so of course I hit up the seller and asked him what was up? He plainly stated that if I'd return it, I'd have to pay shipping. Offered no explanation as to why the extractor was missing despite being asked several times and being provided a picture as proof, it seemed like he was avoiding the question. Anyway, I send it back and a week later he informs me that he received the rifle and that the extractor was present. I reminded him that he has a picture that I took of it clearly not being present, and got no response.

I really want a gimic episode were Othais talks about a toy tank or whatever with the usual episode formula

Tristan

angry beavers is the best !

Leslie Alexander

You guys are not the first Channel to be screwed by YouTube and will not be the last. Its awful what they do to content creators, ESPECIALLY small channels and the gun channels. Now to be a small gun channel... lord help you. However, I have the feeling that word is finally starting to get out about this channel and growth should be expected soon as long as we all keep commenting and liking the videos!

Gage

Mae Responding: Lol!

C&Rsenal

Mae Responding: It's crazy how much that seems to be working too. I guess we really were being sat on to a certain degree by YouTube. We've been climbing in numbers since we threw in that "call to action" bit.

C&Rsenal

I actually enjoy that yall stay away from politics as much as possible.

Adam

Thank you. What little facility I may have I owe to the true masters such as George Carlin i.e. "I don't want shampoo... I want the real thing"

Wayne Dygert

I’m the same, using Apple TV which actually allows likes but not comments. I’ve put YouTube on my phone and I do t watch it on phone but I do use the phone to post comments :)

PeterJim Mc

Yes, new glasses day is magical! And now, as I’ve aged, new bifocals day. :p

PeterJim Mc

Maybe no one else caught this, but you, sir are a master of the English language. Well played :)

PeterJim Mc

Regarding th YouTube algorithm, I gather that the most support you can give a creator is to subscribe, like every video they do, comment on every video at least once and if possible set your YouTube pretences to notify you of Bre videos when they come out. That seems to be what makes the most profitable YouTube channels.

PeterJim Mc

Aye, but best not to speak of the Good People and show them respect. Happy is the way we want to keep them :p

PeterJim Mc

Not to be a jerk but here in Canada we do nothing but paper ballots and we get them counted pretty fast. Of course we make sure we have a lot of polling places and a lot of polling staff available to count the ballots, but I feel like old technology isn’t the problem in the US so much as the fact that each state makes its own voting rules and systems or whatever. Plus our federal elections in Canada are overseen by a non-partisan independent agency that has the same rules for the whole country. Plus our voter roles are linked with our income tax and other info (voluntarily) so if you want to make sure you’re registered to vote in the correct area or whatever just tick the box on your tax return that asks if your demographics can be shared with Elections Canada for that purpose. Voila, you’re on the voters list for your town/neighbourhood/whatever.

PeterJim Mc

That one is RoboTech. Battletech is what the MechWarrior PC games are based on. But both used the same mech designs since both had the license from the original Japanese show which lead to 30 years of lawsuits between the two companies

Chris Stochaj

Was that one with the Macross transforming planes and motorcycles and such? Humans vs Zentraadi invaders or something?

PeterJim Mc

I super enjoyed Othais going Uber Otaku on 80s toys and trap throwers and such. You two are quite entertaining audio in your own right, including any digressions which, by the way, you don’t have to apologize for. (As a Canadian though I respect the unnecessary apology as a cultural icon). Regarding Othais’ point about the golden age of toys I would agree. The 80s had most of the cool toy technology but it predated several things that were bad for the toy industry imho: 1. Choking hazard rules.: Awesome toys have little parts that will kill your per or toddler. Can’t say I blame folks for discontinuing production of such things but definitely those rules make for less cool toys. 2. Integrated electronics.: Whilr I love computers and such, something like a GI Joe (my faves) or transformer or whatever had to be fun without any tie-ins to video games or other electronics. A lot of newer “toys” integrate with an app or online game and they often become nothing more than a paperweight with a microchip inside. So yeah, golden age because of combination of advanced plastics manufacturing combined with a “not yet” electronics integration capability.

Man, the part about some people's brains short-circuiting when you put them in front of e-mail (or any typed electronic communications, really) is so true.

Alex

Jones was not the only one who "predicted" this. He is just an individual who will remind you when his crap sticks to the wall. Below are some other such predictions before the event.. July 23, 2020 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/trump-is-setting-us-up-for-an-election-day-nightmare/2020/07/23/559183b4-cd22-11ea-b0e3-d55bda07d66a_story.html Sep 1, 2020 https://www.axios.com/bloomberg-group-trump-election-night-scenarios-a554e8f5-9702-437e-ae75-d2be478d42bb.html

What am I missing from the equation that you have spent X dollars on internatinal calls instead of $10-30 on something like vonage or phone.com buisness line that bills select countries as local?

Andrey Gardner

Right then. Remind me how I got on C&A's discord. I guess the plug patch is literally a plug? Beyond that we can wait on wether Othais gets a surrogate or not.

Bradwan

I think I found a few in the attic...

C&Rsenal

I will definitely come asking for help if I can't get a surrogate in place

C&Rsenal

Hey, give him credit for also "predicting" the never ending cycle of political blame.

C&Rsenal

If we sell out too quickly we can probably swing more production.

C&Rsenal

Rad

C&Rsenal

We will adapt and overcome! or not I guess.

C&Rsenal

rofl, we appreciate it

C&Rsenal

You guys got dinosaur ones at least...

C&Rsenal

I’d watch a series on 80’s/90’s toys. I’ve been hunting down some figures from Tyco’s Battletech line since I had one as a kid

Chris Stochaj

I was thinking something along the lines of a gsm gateway, or a DIY version there off. For example use Discord to connenct between the US an UK, then call out on the UK phone and plug patch the audio though.

Andrey Gardner

I should have written that I can call anyone in the UK on my tariff. I don't have US free roaming, and I don't understand VOIP to POTS, even after looking it up!. I am willing to give up time, and some resources to help, but without help for me it would have to be on a very simple level without it probably getting too messy.

Bradwan

Moaning and grunting, the eloquence of the gunsquatch.... 😜

Minion

Do you have free roaming in the USA so we can set Othais up with a UK sim, or do we need a free VOIP to POTS gateway for dealing with the e-challenged?

Andrey Gardner

I suspect it will add complexity, but as a UK citizen I can call any individual for free with my contract, and I can do the internet. I would be happy to call folk in my country who can't cope with e-mail, but beyond simple questions I can't do much for you.

Bradwan

The problem with people like this Alex Jones is they pay attention to what is going on and then, in the case of the 2020 just rehash exactly what is being said. With mail in ballots being used in excess, there would be no way for any state to count them. So "predictions" like that are not mystical, just factual. Even looking at non-covid elections, they have all grown passed the 'election night' just because you have to tabulate some 130million+ votes. With the archaic vote system we have, its not that difficult to see it will take a couple of days. So charlatans like him get a bit of notority to push some agenda but saying a couple of truths, to hook someone then find a way to get paid. Its like phone in psychics, or furtune tellers, pr anyone who speaks with the dead, now in podcast form.

Doug G

The Fae, the Gentry, the Fair Folk are the fairies and from somewhere else. They don't like cold iron. Time to start chewing on our tin foil hats ;)

Luis Rivero

Yup, plenty of Lefty gun owners get either outright dismissed or crapped all over by typical gun culture and NRA types.

tibbish

My wife just bought me a couple of shelves to display all my silly 80s toys I have held onto (born 77). The He-Man stuff is amazing - so much crazy variety. Possible to put in early sight unseen order for new shirts, help the debt issue, prevent patreons from missing out on 1/4 order?

Gary Newman

It looks to me like some sort of mashup between a clip and a fancy book (high end ones used to have attached ribbons for bookmarks).

Andrew Start

Great podcast to listen to while I work on my bike. Fun fact, you can in fact saw through brake cables with a file (left my cable cutters at home) And re politics, if you wanna argue gun control with me I'm happy to do so, but all I want to add is that if people want to get thrown for a political loop, look up the socialist rifle association. Fun folk

David Herman

Dug around in the basement after I got off work and I found one of my Starcom Guys magnates are still holding strong :-P https://imgur.com/gallery/u1FIl5Y

Gerald Drake

My work is doing fine even with the panademic so bumped up my patreon level, hope you get through this...

pir

I always watch YouTube from my PlayStation. I don’t think the ps4 app has a native way to like videos. I’ll try to remember to stream it from my phone to the ps4, then I can give you some likes!

PoindexterG

Quick question for the group. I can't figure out the logo for the show, although I suppose it must be primer related I just can't place it. What is the rounded boxy thing with the ribbon sticking out the bottom?

Paul Mosher

These updates are so much fun! They keep me company through quarantine .

Paul Mosher

As for dimensionally invasive vampires, I think Palladium's Rifts megaverse has them covered. Going from memory, one unique weakness was depleted uranium. More research may be required...

Andrey Gardner

If it makes you feel better Othias, no party or politician is coming out of this election with any sort of a mandate, or the political capital to do much of anything.

Ryan D Thorne

Odessa, Ukraine SSR. We called ours "mutants" and the first time I saw a real ones was '98 or '99 at garage sale. Took much longer before I discovered what the bloody things were called or what the "mutants" could be called on ebay. Here's some info on the not BattleBeasts "Robozveri" https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=en&nv=1&pto=aue&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&sp=nmt4&tl=en&u=https://zverotech.com/2014/07/29/robozveri/&usg=ALkJrhgeuyiOOqObD4qJAN5sTZ6g1pMlVA

Andrey Gardner

Greece?

C&Rsenal

If it is only questionable instead of outright bad, being able to electively obfustate one's vision is also a benefit. See how "why do you never wear your glass at work?" is answered "would you really want to see anymore of this place than you absolutely had to?"

Andrey Gardner

You Americans and your fancy multicolor heat rub sticker BattleBeasts... All I had were monochrome hard plastic loose pack knockoffs, and I liked them.

Andrey Gardner

new glasses day is the only upside of having questionable eyesight.

Jeff I

I actually listen your episodes at work etc. Kind of just audio broadcast, not watching(usually I can´t). Of course I´m watching them too but sometimes just audio is enough. Great and interesting content makes it possible.

TJ

Silent wind of Doom!! Whoosh!!!

Jack Mahan

I am thankful there are still people around who appreciate the history of firearms and how they function. I have a few WWI pieces and plan to acquire and restore more. You provide an invaluable source of information. Thank you Mae and Othias

Paul Berkland

I never knew those guys were from StarCom! I had a couple of them that I played with just because I loved playing with magnets. If I remember right I got them out of a free box at a garage sale.

Gerald Drake

I'm still stuck at "a flip was switched". Was the flip bad? Why not just a stern talking to?

Wayne Dygert

Fae encompasses both fairies and elves - or more correctly, elves are a subset of fairies/fae.

David Axel Hansen

"The Hell that you deal with is a weird hell." Catchphrase of C&Rsenal's existence.

David Axel Hansen

Phasmophobia. Never heard of the game, but the video was hilarious.

David Axel Hansen

Oh God, the 1980's. I did in fact look up StarCom toys, and good Lord, it's something to see.

David Axel Hansen

1. Love that shirts are coming 2. It is from flapjack, which was a weird cartoon, definitely fun though.

Upside-down Hat IV

Although my financial situation isn't ideal, I'm glad to be able to keep supporting you folks here.

David Axel Hansen

You know, I rewatch a lot of your videos that I've already seen when I'm gaming online, just to reabsorb things that I'm forgetting. And somehow, all of the political ads I got were for a liberal candidate in my state senate race.

David Axel Hansen

othias why must you do this to me, I'm about to present my engineering thesis
