I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Steyr! I love my L9A1. I also had a major holster manufacturer pull a similar trickery on me and I had to cut the front of their holster off to make it work with the gun but the end result is great.

2020-06-15 07:12:27 +0000 UTCI wear suspenders when I'm working around the house but out and about not so much. To get the gun off your belt consider a horizontal shoulder holster and throw a light shirt over it. I make them so if you're interested let me know and we'll work it out. Might be able to help you out with a holster for the Steyr too,a blue gun is available from Steyr.

2020-06-10 15:22:49 +0000 UTCThe key here is that the idea, that there isn't a straw purchase so long as the final transferee is not a prohibited person, was rejected by the Supreme Court. The 4473 question about being the actual buyer stands alone.

2020-06-09 06:50:26 +0000 UTCI suspect it is easier to research in your native language and sales of such books will always be better in the countries that fielded those guns. European publications also tend to trend deeper into research and I'm not sure that the American market paid well for that effort until very recently.

2020-06-09 06:45:34 +0000 UTCThat seems to say you're buying for a 3rd party. The problem is these are guns coming in for the show, so whoever does the 4473 just is the owner in inventory. I wasn't purchased with the intent of Mae being the final owner. This is comparable to buying someone a gun and having it shipped to them, and the seller listing the CC holder's name instead of the intended recipient. The issue in that case is that the uncle paid the nephew to make the transaction in his stead.

2020-06-09 06:41:52 +0000 UTCI think you hit the nail on the head here, most of the short pamphlet type guides were designed as pocket guides for gun show buyers and they tend to work fairly well at that.

2020-06-05 18:58:37 +0000 UTCThe Swedish and Swiss issue sounds like a milsurp-as-such--enthusiast vs. general collector or simply discerning shooter issue to me -- does this fit your impression? My (very vague) impression is that Swedish Mausers in particular have a big following in this country among people who are into them not because they're milsurps, nor because they're Mausers, but simply because they're *really good hunting and precision shooting rifles*, with maybe a side bonus of "it's cool and historical." For that purpose, how to spot one, how to check its condition and completeness, and how to select and/or hand-load ammunition for it are all important. How it came to be adopted . . . not so much.

2020-06-05 17:58:13 +0000 UTCWhen I was doing a protection mission several jobs ago, a belt and suspenders were a requirement when you have a sidearm, and two magazines, and a radio, and cuffs, and a ASP, and some OC, etc etc etc. Needless to say no fitted or skinny suits were worn.

2020-06-05 16:16:49 +0000 UTCTwo things: As a bigger boy, suspenders are absolutely the way to go. Suspenderstore.com with their heavy duty alligator clips. Gold. Secondly, please please please write a book to capstone primer. Even if you’re just reformatting you’re show script to do a broad overview style (think Paul Scarlata’s Collecting Military Bolt Action Rifles). Between your photos and script you could do an awesome volumed set. And if you really wanna make it cool, treat each chapter as a research paper and list all of your source work and reference material in a works cited at the end of each chapter. Think of how useful of a resource that would be for people who want to dive deep on something to have your book as a starting place and then have the list of sources you used to dive deep. Just a thought. All the Best guys!

2020-06-05 04:36:11 +0000 UTCOthias, hearing you talk about shotgun chamber lengths and smokeless suitability reminded me of something. When I first bought my 1897 Winchester, I had numerous people tell me that I needed to have the forcing cone lengthened, because although the gun was 2 3/4" chambered, it was designed for roll crimped shells and not star crimped shells, and that firing star crimped shells was dangerous in such a gun. Being a fan of empirical data over rumors and speculation, I found an article in the Winter 2001 issue of the Double Gun Journal entitled "Long Shells in Short Chambers" in which the author tested shooting 2 3/4" shells in 2 2/3" chambers in a pressure transducer equipped gun, my reasoning being that if a modern 2 3/4" shell could safely be fired in a 2 1/2" chamber, then it would be fine in a short-coned 2 3/4" chamber. Three conclusions I remember from the article were that firing a 2 3/4" shell in a 2 1/2" chamber produced less than 1000 psi increase, most shells from the same manufacturer varied by 500 psi on average between shots, and the variation in pressure between similar shell loadings (weight and velocity) from different manufacturers was almost always greater than the increase from 2 3/4" to 2 1/2" chambers. I don't know if this is relevant to you, but I thought you might find it interesting and seek out the article.

2020-06-05 04:35:30 +0000 UTCOthais, I'm with you on the suspenders, man! I moved from belts to suspenders a year ago and I never looked back. So much more comfortable. The difference is astounding. Glad you've joined the club. Oh, and don't feel old because of it. Hell, I'm 27.
