Not all of your viewers are involved in the gun rights movement. the political issue is always going to be part of the realm of even historic arms, some of us are tuned in for the historical content. the history drives my interest and I wouldn't say that it is a gun show as some may perceive. The way I see the format is a history around the arms involved,I enjoy the show and feel your doing a great job.

Howard Ladd

Red Green was on PBS here in the northwest when I was a kid.

MrBushido

You guys should absolutely do something with 9hole reviews!!👍👍

Rogersgunworks4

I have one - in .45!! Or 7.5mm as we call it in Europe :-)

Farmer Brown

Our webhost says yes, I just need to work out the details.

C&Rsenal

Many viewers may find Primer because they're already looking for in-depth information, but I didn't. I found y'all through The Great War, and I was immediately hooked. Up until then, I only owned one (and modern) firearm. Now I have a Webley MkVI, a Savage 1907, and an Enfield 1917. I doubt I'm alone, but I can confirm that you caused at least one convert to the Church of Old Guns. That's why I'm a patron. Y'all gave me a new hobby, and I come at it from the history side. When Othais says that we have to do the history first, that's not the veggies to me. That's having dessert first.

Jackson Darr

@ 28:20 -- Case study: History Channel's _Tales of the Gun_ series, which was riddled with inaccuracies was nevertheless the gateway drug for a huge %age of your Primer followers, I'd be willing to bet... ;-)

Bruce Brodnax

Same here, I find the stories about the people who developed and built the guns interesting and appreciate all the work the team puts into showing the mechanics. Plus I find the episodes to be pretty relaxing, in the same vein as How It’s Made.

Chris Stochaj

p.s. I hope the crew does get into competition shooting, it brings in another dimension of knowledge, experience, and fun especially with the old guns. Maybe a ww1 tactics themed collaboration with someone like inrange? Trying to shoot german grenades with buckshot in an m97 as they're being thrown at you would make a truly unique challenge for even the most experienced shooters.

Mr. Lee

You have made a truly accessible show that, albeit in a pbs style, doesn't come off as falling into the lifestyle branding that just about everyone else uses to hold viewership, and that I think is what I truly like about it and why I support it. I might be a gun nerd and I shoot competitions, but I don't need to constantly tell the world about it, I have other interests. I also relate to the approach you take to shooting evaluation. As someone that came around to things like the ar15 very slowly and with some contempt, and who has only shot a glock long enough to know I don't find it comfortable or like them, I find the lack of comparative reference not only appropriate for the content but refreshing in general. I wish you the best of luck and hope to see this grow into the all-encompassing work you envision it to be.

Mr. Lee

Raised by grandparents in the rural southeastern US? It'd be a wonder if he *didn't* know the difference between handsome and handy.

James McKenzie

"Say goodnight, Othais." "Goodnight Othais!"

James McKenzie

I'm precisely the same, though I have a tiny bit of experience with firearms. I just really love the intricacy and detail that is put in.

Veteran of the Mushroom Wars

"The kind of guys who watch Primer already know it's important. They're just looking for more information" I've seen every episode at least twice and have never owned a gun, never shot a gun, don't really ever plan to... I just find your show very interesting and the presentation entertaining and easy listening.

Planescaped

"I love a shitshow"... So THAT's why you've been on We like Shooting recently :)

Christopher Dooley

Thanks for the heads up. Think I'll do a Google search and see what turns up

Wayne Dygert

FYI Red Green isn't a site, it is a Canadian sketch comedy show. I am curious how Othais got into it, though.

Shaun Young

Maybe see if you can go inrange and do a shoot with them and that group. maybe when they release the WWSD 2020 brownells will pay for it.

privetkillzs

A Swiss straight pull bolt action rifle. Bloke on the Range has some videos on it (although the carbines are more commonly seen).

Shaun Young

Also allows it to be run in the background when multi-tasking and not having video kill the battery

Shaun Young

The best work though had nothing to do with him, it was anything involving Hap Shaughnessy (Gordon Pinset) or Edgar Montrose (Graham Greene). Actually, my father use to work for the company the originally owned Winston Rothschild's red and grey pump truck! If you like that sort of comedy, I'd recommend a great movie starring Gordon called "The Grand Seduction" circa 2013. It also stars Peter Keleghan who was Ranger Gord on Red Green.

Ahh Red Green, the voice of my childhood (along with Royal Canadian Air Farce). My mother actually got one of his books signed in person at a local hardware store about 15 years ago. I picked up one of his books a few years back but I haven't found the time to read it. One of these days ....

“Just the tip” is that an Archer reference?

Loren Hermanson

Speaking of people dying and relatives burning their archival papers. On a old Q&A Ian said he had a elderly friend who had I think original blueprints / manufacturing info for the Pedersen device and I think he even had info on an enfield 1917 (?) version of the Pederson. Anyway the man died and his family burned the papers. I think this incident was an early impetus to the original Forgotten Weapons website / archive.

Ozymandias

I love this content. Would it be possible to make it downloadable like a podcast the way Karl does some of the InRange content? Thanks for all the good work.

James Bond

Many 'gun shows' on YouTube are barely 90 level classes. You guys are definitely a 202 level class.

Tiger in man's clothing

You'd know about volute springs if you were a M4 Sherman fan (or M3 Lee/Grant, M10 TD or most other US tank designs from WW2)!

Robert LaPadura

Othias is very like Carl Sagan was about astronomy and physics with the Cosmos series. He makes the subject extremely approachable to anyone, with a little humor humanize himself to the viewer. It is a unique strength.

Loren Hermanson

Any chance of having these as mp3 download? I’m more likely to listen on headphones when at work or when driving, and using mobile data for that long is a battery killer and impractical with patchy signal on the road.

Gavin Rea-Davies

I think it's 22lr made by kel-tec

Dave Burke

So I'm looking at my notes. Now I've gotta look up Mossberg 200K, volute spring, and find a site called "Red/Green"? You guys really know how to keep an old fart busy. I must say I'm really enjoying these unstructured chats although back in the day when I was subject to enduring "employee evaluation" I would complain to all and sundry that it felt like undergoing a "self criticism " session during the cultural revolution in Red China.

Wayne Dygert

What's a 1911?

Minion

Given the cult following for the gun am I correct to assume y'all are considering a multipart series of episodes or will it be all in one? If it comes as the final gun of the initial european electric boogaloo, I personally would love to see a very humor focused intro given the devotion of the 45aarp crowd. I imagine it would tank viewership and likely conflict with the tone of the channel, perhaps it could be a starter for determined idiots? (Suntory Toki was involved in this comment so please excuse any errors or stupidity on my part)

Zayernot

I wish I could be a part of this conversation. I learn so much from y'all already. Absolutes are a challenge. You know something. Know something to the best of your ability. But you (not personally) could be wrong. There could be something unknown to you. Being aware of that; and open to new knowledge is a strength I hear from your posts. You are knowledgeable. Nobody knows everything. You are aware. That acknowledgment is a strength of your intellect. You won me over with Red Green. "If life gives you lemons, thrown them in a quart of vodka!"

Cobra Commander

Othais: "Mae, say something..." Mae: "Um..." Doh! Mae, c'mon: you're *supposed* to immediately bounce back with "Something!" ;-D

Bruce Brodnax

Politics don't mater but character does, both you and Mae both come across as having a good character and being characters as well. Best of both worlds, definitely people you want to hang out with

Ted Weldon

Thank you. We're actually hoping to go full humor on another series eventually

C&Rsenal

Tempting.

C&Rsenal

The issue is making enough time to do it correctly.

C&Rsenal

I assume the 1911 is being held back until they really need the views to boost cash flow or as the final episode. If it is the former I think it makes sense to try and keep it in reserve while growing the subscriber base so you can get the greatest possible audience.

Zayernot

Keep the humor in! When i first started watching, it took me a few episodes to catch on to the last scenes in the 'War Were Declared' segment. It's now one of my favorite parts. It's also proof you are having fun and don't take yourself too seriously. My rating of C&rsenal is A+. Excellent in-depth coverage of firearms and their history.

Jason

When you said you love a good shitshow, I was thinking of a possible Mosin Nagant parody patch. It Should have picture of a mosin with quote above it saying " I love a good sh**show". In reference to the history and long process it took to make the mosin nagant, not the actual rifle itself...lol

James G. Jones

I recently learned what a volute spring is from watching the Chieftan talk about old tanks. Information can come from unexpected sources.

moosemaimer

Apply YOUR treatment to 1911 and that will get a zillion views.... (Some of which will look at other stuff.)
