Small Arms of WWI Primer 082: The Kropatschek Pt.1

I should have chosen something easier.

I am not smart.

It is a very early Martini Henry Mk 1 I think, based on the presence of the sliding safety catch in front of the trigger.

Thank you for all of the education and entertainment you provide! It appears in the video that the when the magazine cutoff is turned on, the elevator lifts and locks in place in the upright position. What happens when the cutoff is turned on while the bolt is closed and there is a cartridge on the elevator?

Thanks folks. Looking forward to part 2. I've really struggled with the Kropatschek as well so I'll be interested to see what you've uncovered. The quality of the rifles OEWG put out was amazing - we usually see them kinda battered and bruised but I got a chance to look at a mint one in the Royal Armouries collection and it's just beautiful.

Wisdom might be your dump stat. It sounded like you and May were a bit sleep deprived at the end of the episode.

lovot

thanks can't wait for part 2

Oh, you are quite smart, you just can't walk away from a challenge. Which, I guess means you are not smart. LMAO The thing is, (and I believe I speak for most of us, because I have seen many others mention this), we will NOT mind it if you start taking some time for yourself. We don't care if your video production slows a bit. We want you healthy and happy and we want to enjoy your work for years to come.

@ 40:40: French adopt the Kropatschek. "I know a guy who has one, but he's out of the country..." Hmm, Gun Jesus is in Finland around the time this is being made. That "guy" wouldn't be Ian, would it? ;-)

Oh man, I've been waiting for this episode! I think letting Bloke on the Range on it was a good move. Thanks for a splendid episode!

~ the 30:00 min mark: that bit about "interchangeable parts" is called "the American system" of manufacture. Colt took the world by storm at the Great Exposition of 1851 in England...

Bruce Brodnax

If we only had a dollar for every instance that we uttered that same phrase, you know that we'd be living pretty comfortable.

Stop teasing us with the Martini in the background! Is it a Henry or Enfield?

You are clearly intelligent, perhaps not wise

Smartness is overrated!

we appreicate your not-smartness
