On Kansas City
Added 2018-08-13 19:08:39 +0000 UTCHere is the GENERAL plan:
Ride Motorcycle about 8 hours a day for several days. Camp in one man tent most nights. Reach Kansas City afternoon of the 20th and book to camp (they have a 9pm cut off to check in)
Hit the museum for most of the day the 21st until closing time. Then book it out of town for next stop sadly.
Then I do wedding stuff in Denver for a few days and have to come back. Have no return plans whatsoever as I'll take going in to get acquainted with what I want to do. Return trip can be slower.
Here is what I need people to be very clear on: I'm taking a bike and I'm taking my time to a degree. Flat tires and mechanical failures are possible, exhaustion and bad weather are possible, camp site issues are possible. Severe bowel cramping from highway food is possible.
So, there is no guarantee I will make the date and especially no assurance for what time until I am at camp in Kansas City the day before. Then it's pretty solid. Please do not get upset if I have to change what I'm doing, this is not an official event for the show. I just figure while I'm there I'd give locals a chance to hang out.
I've struggled to get two episodes done ahead of time. Who would think covering a gun that has no books on it would be hard!? When I get back I'll probably sacrifice a regular episode to cover something I've been meaning to for a while with Bruno. An informal but long episode on what differentiates bolt guns.

Hello Othais... As luck would have it - my wife and I are in Florida now thru the 24th visiting our mother and son/daughter in law. So we will be obviously out of town on the 21st. NUTS!!!!! That said - if you do need any advice on downtown Kansas City - please do let me know and I will be happy to assist from afar. KC is a great place indeed and you should have a great time in my current "home town". The people are very nice and you will feel right at home if you enjoy South Carolina. Safe travels and enjoy the wonderful WWI Museum/National Monument. Sooooooo well done!
2018-08-15 16:24:34 +0000 UTCI'd tell you to read. Zen and Motorcycle Maintenance but you won't have time and you'll be living it. Even better. Good luck
2018-08-14 20:30:53 +0000 UTCBe safe and enjoy. We will be here when you return.

2018-08-14 09:48:25 +0000 UTCHope you have a great time. Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs but.... take a good sized can of tyre foam with you! After a few flat, I bought one: ever since I've carried one I've not had to use it (so far), so it must work ;-)

2018-08-14 02:37:44 +0000 UTCApology for trying to have a life is not required. I'm pretty sure the Internet isn't going anywhere. Have fun - that's an order!

2018-08-14 00:54:12 +0000 UTCTake your time and be safe. I can only imagine that it may be a long exhausting drive on a bike but a great way to see the country. You may be wore out by the time you get to KC but let us know if we can do anything for you. If you run into campground trouble in KC - I've got plenty of flat land, a 10'x12' tent and a queen sized air mattress. It's not fancy but it's free.
2018-08-14 00:49:27 +0000 UTCWhen I was in high school I used to take my old FZR up that way, make day trips to Asheville.

2018-08-13 20:50:45 +0000 UTCOn the return trip, if you're not tired of riding yet, do not omit the Blue Ridge Parkway, or as much of it as you can manage. Be alert for deer - everywhere - in the morning and evening. Sing out if you need something, or want to know about good places in the Blue Ridge.

2018-08-13 19:52:32 +0000 UTCIf you're taking it slow on the way back, you may want to think about hitting the far western suburbs of Chicago to stop at the First Division Museum at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, IL. https://www.fdmuseum.org/honoring-wwi-centennial/ "The Battle of Cantigny took place May 28-31, 1918, in Cantigny, France. The U.S. Army’s First Division led the charge, successfully liberating the small village from German occupation. The Battle had a significant impact on the life of Col. Robert R. McCormick. A true citizen-soldier, McCormick joined the Illinois National Guard in 1915 and served on the Mexican border in 1916. At the time, he was editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune. He further volunteered for service in World War I with the First Division (now the 1st Infantry Division, the famous “Big Red One”)."

2018-08-13 19:39:01 +0000 UTCI'm not a gun owner and didn't grow up in a gun-heavy culture, so I'd love a video on how to differentiate bolt-actions.

2018-08-13 19:31:23 +0000 UTCAs Former President of a BMW Motorcycle club, I know about rides across the country. I even pulled a pop up camper with my bike. I wish a safe and satisfying journey. Very few adventures in life can compare with cruising down the open road listening to your self think and feel. Come back you are needed.
