Small Arms of WWI Primer 079: Ottoman Mauser 1887

I'm honestly knee deep in Maxim script.

Tricky bit: up to page 26 on the FIRST episode on Maxim.  Problem is only 2/3rds done and it already 6 pages over our longest so far....

Ain't no such thing as too much Maxim.

Steve Zeatlow

I would love, once WWI is wrapped up, to hear ya'lls thoughts on how the guns would have compared if War Were Declared in 1886 or 87. It was such a weird technological estuary that firearms moved through rather quickly.

Christopher Dooley

1 episode or 3, maybe 4? I've seen most of the episodes more than once. Keep the content level like all the others, and do the Maxim its proper honors. Don't waste time to adhere to an artificial boundery. You're the boss, and if you knew how grateful we all are, you'd loose all modesty. So we won't tell you.

True enough. Better and better ways of killing each other.....

"Best BP round" sounds like trolling for an endless net argument. The .303 Metford [compressed BP prior to necking the case & mounting bullet] has to be in the running [aka .303 British after they switched to cordite], but I'd have to say the only one that still makes any sense in a modern context is the oldest round still in production: the venerable .45-70. :-)

Eh, Vickers returned the bloodshed in kind...

People *will* be watching the episode for years to come. The internet remembers!

Fantastic episode! Can't wait for more Ottoman stuff.

Thanks for this one. A rifle I knew virtually nothing about. Best black powder round? Hmm. I'll be interested to hear your opinion on 8mm Kropatscheck!

This was a fascinating ep. Many thanks guys. You’ve already done the Lewis Gun.....so I’ll take what you give us with the Maxim (that evil device took too many of ours a century ago...I don’t care for it much).

Take your time. People may be watching the episode for years to come.

Considering the importance of recoil-driven machine guns in the Great War, and the Maxims importance in the development of this type of weapon, I don't thing a splitting of the episode is necessarily a bad thing. One episode on the development, perhaps one on the adoption and production of the original design and one on it's derivatives would seem sensible to me.

Petter Bøckman

woohoo it found his cap again

Make some multiple part episodes

I sorta kinda am... Two maxims shot means only two episodes to show them in.

C&Rsenal

you take that back

Like the others have mentioned, don't overwork yourself. Do it how it best serves you and the story. Multiple episodes, if that's whats needed, do it. The content you guys out out is always top notch. Don't burn yourself out on one! You have plenty more you want to do as you have told us before. Keep enjoying it!

Powers

Yes, pace yourself Othias. This is a marathon if it takes more than one episode so be it. One of the beauties of this format is you're not constrained by a particular time length.

Baron Engel

Tricky bit: Othais has to sleep sometime...

I'm fine with 3 or 4 episodes just for "The Maxim". Lol. Though others may grow tired of it.

Vityaz

I would gladly watch a 3 hour long Maxim episode, but don't want you to push yourself into a mental breakdown. Do what's best for you and the project.

Kevin Smith

SO Far...Othias has Got....a Maxim script and we have not.....
