Well I bumped up my monthly to a cheeseburger a month. I love the show.

Thank you! We appreciate the support

C&Rsenal

I want you guys for all the effort you're putting into your research and videos. You have a very satisfied patron and I've recommended you to many of my followers.

Baron Engel

Thank you!

C&Rsenal

Thorough coverage as this weapon system obviously demanded. Thank you Mae for naming the M1917 as #1. My Eddystone rocks!

Lee Hetrick

Good thing I have a long commute. very informative.

Paul Crew

C&Rsenal

I am happy to hear that!

C&Rsenal

I am sorry but they were all filmed the same day actually

C&Rsenal

This is the SMLE-iest episode yet.

Jorge Gomez

Oh, btw: the wogs had the _audacity_ to survive the Mk2 bullets, after they suffered the *indignity* of perforation by them... ;-) [Sorry, word geek; couldn't resist correcting the malapropism in the episode.]

Good question. It may have been one of those beloved theories that everyone always wanted to practice, but the conditions for which never actually presented themselves. There's really only a period of ~ 25 years that I can think of where the concept of volley fire really might have had traction: don't forget, prior to the U.S. Civil War, firearm sights tended to be vestigial at best, since the old smooth-bore "Line up abreast at 50 yards & let'er fly" rules of engagement still held sway. It was only after the international long-range matches at Creedmoor that the idea of long range marksmanship really took hold and the whole volley-fire ideal would have had a strong allure.

Bruce Brodnax

Do the interns get Lee-Enfields?

Aaron Smith

Maybe I should be asking this over in community but I'll ask it here. This is yet another rifle with volley sights from that era. Is there any proof that volley fire was used during any battles before or during WW1?

Wayne Moyer

Enjoyed the references to Ian & FW. You guys should do another x-over episode.

Bruce Brodnax

Yep, I caught that too. Threw me off for a minute.

Bruce Brodnax

Fantastic episode guys. As a big Enfield fan I really looked forward to this episode and I have not been disappointed! Thanks.

Ian

I liked the comment about the rims. It reminded me of what the Japanese did with having Rimmed versions for machine guns and rimless for rifles.

Paul Linfor

Also nice use of "Long Way to Tipperary". Reminded me of playing Toy Soldiers.

Paul Linfor

Glad to see you used my tip on quicker loading of the rimmed cartridge. Did a lot better on the fixed charging bridge rifles. There's always some trouble loading those cartridges, I guess you just have to do it a lot.

Paul Linfor

Around the 1:04:10 point there is audio overlap. It might be me but if anyone can confirm that would help.

Primal Tempest

Oh there are are plenty of practically extinct guns we are actively hunting. I would say we put 10 hours a week into just looking for the next pieces.

I cannot imagine the amount of effort it took to get these episodes out. I'm glad to hear you'll be taking it a bit easier for the next few installments; I've been going though a bit of .32 withdrawal. :) It seems like this was one of those cases where there was just more information (historical and developmental) available for these guns than could be boiled down to a reasonable degree (which makes sense given the abundance of the SMLE in its various iterations, as well as the decently-well-kept records of it's evolution). On the opposite end of the spectrum (sorry to ask about future headaches); I'm sure there are guns for which there is far more information than (accessible) examples (I'm thinking MG's mostly), but have you run across guns for which shootable examples are fairly common, but not much exists in the way of developmental history? Is there anything that's just a "unicorn" gun for this series, something that you'd love to cover, but there's just nothing out there in terms of either examples or info?

Christopher Dooley

That Harris dump system reminds me of how much better the Krag is in its native 6.5x55 SM chambering than the reloading debacle it was in the 30-40Govt. in U.S. service: rimmed cartridges just don't play nice in box mags!

Bruce Brodnax

We all appreciate your guys work so much! These last two videos, were amazing.

As always, thank you! Magnificent,

This set pushed my limits for sure.

C&Rsenal

We'll have to do a short list of favorites sometime.

C&Rsenal

Wow.

Paul Heiser

Videos like this make me glad I'm a patron. I'm exhausted watching it so I can't imagine researching and filming this. Maybe us patrons can get a Mae and Othias favorite rifles and pistols video sometime, please?

TwentythreePER

I worry about your sanity with these long episodes Othias, you'll lose your marbles before the Mosins get researched at this point. Seriously, amazing work with these past 2 episodes, you and the crew are really going after the sacred cows in a very unbiased way, which is remarkably hard to do. Well done once again, I look forward to the notification popping up on nights like this. Now it's time to power down...

it's a MFing RIOT! get the pitchforks and torches! we're burning this place to the ground!

The what now?

Spencer R

I just need to give up on sleeping every other Monday night. So excited to see this episode, and even more so because y'all weren't up until 2:00 to finish posting it.
