Trench Carbine

SPAR 5814 - This is one of a number of items the Springfield Armory Museum received in 1920 from Captain J.L. Aney. Captain Aney was stationed in Europe with the Ordnance Department and assigned to the "Captured Material Section" in WWI. Aney was ordered to secure items for the Springfield Armory Museum. This weapon is listed on the Receiving Report as Item No. 155 and is described as: "American Enfield magazine carbine model 1917. This gun is of extreme interest since it has been cut down in the field to fit it for trench warfare."

Received 3/24/20.

I bet it looks mean with the bayonet.

Now we just need a version with the gunfire dubbed over with the Patented C&Rsenal Bang noises.

I've only ever found 1 working condition 1917 at all the shops and shows I've looked at, I've never found broken ones or ones that have been shot out, plus I don't know who I could take a project like this to that I trust...I would love to see a bench accuracy test for this carbine and see if it's better or worse than say an Enfield Jungle Carbine or a Mosin M38 or M44

I'm a gunsmith in training and I would work for peanuts just to gain knowledge and experience with a crew like yours. Oh, if only.

I really enjoyed this!

Jay had all the measurements tucked away, I can ask him if he lost them yet!

Did you film any of the manufacturing of this I am going to make one as soon as i find a suitable doner gun. (Parts gun or shot out barrel). What length is the barrel?

Ben Gwilliam

Respectfully I disagree. Othais made clear in the intro what this is and isn't. A little extra sauce for the goose, so to speak, not a substitute episode.

It is interesting, however I would argue it defeats the point of this series. The main reason I started watching is because it detailed WWI issued firearms in great depth. Running around chasing one offs isn't really a issued weapon. The reality is unless it was a sanctioned common pattern of modification I would recommend avoiding it as it takes away from actual content that was in reality issued and used by significant quantities of people. Since it takes 2 weeks for a episode, wasting a episode on this when there is so much to cover (Lee Enfields, Portuguese M1904s etc.) really does disappoint me.

took months to find a 1917 with a ruined barrel

Nope, this was in the works for a while before we geared up Mark

We have the photo somewhere...I will have to rehost it. Mae took a burn but we see plenty of her.

Barely legal

Wow, I can picture myself having fun with a .22 conversion of this carbine

Is that rifle SBR length?

Wow looks cool. So did you guys make this from scratch? So its a C&Rsenal special reproduction?

Wait you made your own, awesome. Do you have work in progress pictures on making that

Looks like a fun gun - would like some closeup's and measurements if possible. Oh, and is May going to take a turn?
