Success, of a sort
Added 2016-05-09 16:38:04 +0000 UTCI am happy to announce the channel has cleared 1 Million views in total!
I have mixed feelings to announce we have had a video break 100,000 views for the first time. Mostly because I hoped something like the Ross or T-gewehr would have the punch needed first.
Instead the honor goes to the 3 minute BF1 video I knocked together in order to reach out into the gaming community early, hoping to lure them into the real discussion of WWI firearms.
Given EA's record I expect the game to be expensive, fun, and historically inaccurate as all get out. Some of you may well know, whenever there is an incorrect display in popular media, people never double check, assume it is fact, and often parrot it to the point of argument.
So I will do my best to stay on top of any history faltering errors so you guys have somewhere to point.
Also, on that note there are several guns I am interested in proving or disproving in the war. I will start sharing them. If you can find proof, great! I rather have the truth than confirm my theories.
Cut-Down SMLE: This one was shown in a movie but I can find no reliable reports on its USE. Some recall seeing others have them but those were likely misinterpretations of "initiators" that fire blanks into trench mortars.
There is one in a private museum in Belgium but we can't find contact info to ask about its provenance.
The only value to a "obrez" gun is concealment and using one in a tunnel would be very hard without holsters or sling points. We have found, however, a likely real trench modified 1917 carbine with both front and rear sights and sling swivels with a should stock. A reasonable weapon.
