Episode 280 - Cop City vs The First Amendment
Added 2023-06-12 12:41:35 +0000 UTCSince we last talked Cop City, things have escalated. A SWAT team raided a house where activists were raising legal support and bail funds, and over 40 Cop City protestors have been charged with state domestic terrorism. All this comes after a new autopsy report confirms police were not acting in self defense when they killed 26-year-old forest defender Manuel “Tortuguita” Terán. Kamau Franklin returns to the podcast along with Micah Herskind and Mariah Parker, two other Stop Cop City activists, to give us the lay of the land and connect the criminalization of protests and the fascist funding of the police training center by national corporations to broader trends across the country.

Is there any formal connection anyone knows of between Cop City and WHINSEC? Seems awful convenient that they're only two hours away from Atlanta

2023-06-16 13:07:14 +0000 UTC@The Bloods and Crops Do you think the battle over Cop City is "American local politics"? I would confidently argue that the largest militarized civilian persecution center in the heart of the empire, the biggest purveyor of violence in the world, being built on destroyed forest land, on dead and wounded bodies of environmental protectors facilitated by the removal of dissidents and protestors charged with TERRORISM can be categorized with your other "general black issues/discussions"
2023-06-14 21:51:28 +0000 UTCDebate what? This is a conversation regarding the on the ground developments of cop city. Why the fuck would anybody be interested in Glenn Loury's "debate" over this subject? The vast majority of citizens, except those in the ruling class fascist corporate duopoly or their dwindling propagandized followers, all agree we need to prevent the police from getting their newest, biggest playground to practice killing protestors to defend Capital and property. Why would anybody who already agrees on the solution be interested in Loury's colonized brain's opinion? I'm wholly uninterested in hearing old balls preaching upliftsuasion and boot strapping. Clownry will say Tortugita should have been meditating outside of the tent, or shouldn't have worn a hoodie or bought a pack of Skittles, or should have listened to the police 🤣🤣🤣.

2023-06-12 15:13:05 +0000 UTCSounds like this might not be the podcast for you then.
2023-06-12 15:11:58 +0000 UTCColeman is intensely boring and Brie barely even pushed back on him. Need more Thomas C Williams, Loury and Norman Finkelstein. I have no interest in American local politics as Im not from America. Only here for general Black issues/discussions.
2023-06-12 15:07:53 +0000 UTCGlen has been on before. Coleman has been on and he is a carbon copy of McWhorter.
2023-06-12 15:02:33 +0000 UTCDeeply cool to have on the A-team of Atlanta activists! There’s no political leader in GA more exciting than Mariah Parker. Micah’s at the heart of everything too… Fantastic ep! THANK YOU BRIE!!
