v24.0.2-beta – Second 2024 rules beta

Tonight is pakjesavond* in the Netherlands and that means everybody gets a present, all of you included. This present comes in the shape of a couple of new beta sheets, one for 5e (2014) and one for 2024 (5.5e).

The 2024 sheet doesn't contain all the content. I'm working through all of it and amending the functionality of the sheet as needed. For example, coding the new Eldritch Invocations showed that a couple of spell and companion page callback integration needed to be reworked to accommodate the Invocations new flexibility.

*Pakjesavond is the eve of Sinterklaas and is traditionally when children in the Netherlands get presents and when adults exchange gifts. When I was younger, the Dutch wouldn’t do any gifts/presents at Christmas, but many Dutch now do this at both holidays, probably thanks to the influence of American media. Which is ironic, because "Saint Nick" is based on Sinterklaas.

v24.0.1-beta was not skipped, it existed for a couple of hours. However, I found a bug while writing this post so I produced a new version very much last-minute.

This is a beta release for Patreon supporters only to try out. Please give feedback for things not working as expected, because that is what a beta is for!

The links above include both v14.0.2-beta+251205 (for 5e, 2014) and v24.0.2-beta+251205 (for 2024, 5.5e).

This Beta is still limited in content.

Fully updated to the 2024 rules:

Not included because not finished yet:

You can read the full changelog on GitHub for the 2024 (5.5e) sheets and the 5e (2014) sheets.

1. Spell Checkboxes

The “1× LR” and “1× SR” tags have been replaced with checkboxes. Now you can mark them when a “Once per Short/Long Rest” spell has been used.

New double checkboxes have been added to show that a spell is both “Always Prepared” and “Once per Short/Long Rest”.

Until now, features that allowed a spell to be cast once per short/long rest were also displayed in the Limited Features section. By adding these new checkboxes, we can keep better track of these kind of spells without them taking up valuable space on the first page.

These checkboxes are also available in the 5e (2014) sheet: v14.0.2-beta.

2. Prepared Cantrips

The previous beta saw the introduction of this new feature for the Wizard’s spell sheet. This new beta adds a way for any spellcasting feature to enable it on their spell sheet. For example, the High Elf can now show all the cantrips so you can choose which to prepare after a Long Rest.

Additionally, this feature has been backported to the 5e (2014) sheet. For example, you can now list all the cantrips if you are using the variant class feature “Cantrip Formulas” from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything.

Classes are next on the list. I'm trying to finish all classes with their subclass from the SRD first. After that, I'm not sure, I might put up a poll whether the magic items or the rest of the subclasses should take priority.

I'm working through all the base classes and their SRD subclasses first. Once those are done, adding new subclasses is a lot faster. Regardless, transcribing subclasses is a lot of work, especially if they are verbose. It will take some time and I can't tell you when they will be done, it all depends on the subclasses and how easy they are to implement. I will release things here on Patreon as they get finished.

When will the other subclasses be available and when will the Heroes of Faerun Source material be implemented? I ask because I'm a member and I've been using your stuff for years. Not I'm starting a new campaign that's all 2024. I'm playing a Path of the World Tree Barbarian and using a background with a couple of feats from the Heroes of Faerun Source material. It would be really nice to use the sheet featurrd as intended with that added material
