Survey: MPMB's next step

The survey announced over two weeks ago is finally here. As is now tradition, I had planned to have this available sooner for you, but with friends in town from abroad and the daycare unexpectedly shutting down for a week, time was a precious commodity best spent in other ways.

I did manage to play two sessions IRL with my group, which was amazing. A lucky coincidence in scheduling had all three members who live abroad back in the Netherlands at the same time. One lives in Los Angeles and was visiting for the first time in three years.

Yesterday I tried to reply to all the comments on my previous post, but there were so many that I might've skipped some. Apologies if I didn't reply to your comment!

This survey is going to help me make a decision how to proceed with the MPMB Character Sheets.

It consists of 3 sections and should take no more than 10 minutes of your time.

Some notes about the survey

Many have responded to the last post that having an offline, stand-alone program is the main reason for using MPMB's Character Record Sheets.

I would like to dispel the fear that a web-app would mean an end to this. A modern web-app can be made to run stand-alone and offline with a single click, or in a container for even the most advanced features. A web-app can be made to work similar to the PDFs, but with all the features of a modern browser.

So please don't base your answers on the fact that you would like a stand-alone offline version, believing that it can only be achieved with the PDF.

I Love it ❤

I agree that it would be great to have a new iteration finished in time for the next version of D&D. I'm not sure if it will be interesting to try and keep up with the OneD&D playtest material. For now, they are producing content much faster than I could transcribe for the sheet and tweak the sheet to fit the new rules.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

OneD&D may be the perfect reason to explore the alternative form of the sheets, be it the webpage or app idea. I think it'll be ultimately best to keep the PDFs to 5E, allowing you to work on the new format without being too bogged down by the amount of stuff in the OneD&D playtests.

Hi Ray, That is great, more 3rd party content is always welcome for the sheet. Not many people read the comments over here, because Patreon is not that easy to navigate. If you would like to see if more people would want to join your efforts, I can recommend posting on the /r/mpmb subreddit as well as the MPMB Discord server. Discord link: https://discord.gg/Qjq9Z5Q Reddit link: https://www.reddit.com/r/mpmb/ Unfortunately, I won't be joining you in your efforts to transcribe 3rd-party materials. I have plenty content to catch up on as it is..

Hey! I'm actually working on "Deep magic" by Kobold press on my gitlab. its early days, but I have a few spells added already that are usable (if you want to help, most of the stuff is on another branch) gitlab - super9mega / supers-mpmb-imports

You can add custom content if you transcribe it in the proper JavaScript syntax. You can find the syntax on my GitHub. As transcribing takes a lot of time (to do properly), I have no plans to do any third-party content. But fans might do it, and quite a few 3rd-party stuff has been shared on the /r/mpmb subreddit and MPMB Discord server. Roll20's main D&D 5e character sheet doesn't really do imports from other sources. At least, not unless you have the paid version of Roll20. And even that is constantly changing. Making an import function for Roll20 would be complex and would need constant (i.e. at least weekly) updates to stay compatible. However, I haven't looked much more into it. I'm guessing it is probably easier to have a browser add-on that takes rolls from an open character sheet and puts them in Roll20 chat.

Is there a way to add custom content? and any plans to add Kobold press material?

A web app would be fine and probably easier to maintain. I'd prefer to also have a self contained version since net access might not always be available. I can see that allowing for output in different formats, maybe more than what we have now since it wouldn't be a separate PDF for each. It would be amazing if it could output a version compatible to import directly into Roll20 (which has a miserable character creation system).

Would love a web-app version! filled out the survey & excited to see what comes next (would love an easier way to add 3rd party content too)

Survey completed! Looking forward to the next steps but if that takes a while I am in no hurry.. and if you needs some testers I am willing to lend a hand!

Templa

There is no support for templates in the sheet. If you want to be a lycanthrope, you'll have to make the changes manually. Perhaps you can use a companion page to record your stats and attacks in lycanthropy form?

MorePurpleMoreBetter

I know this might not be seen but not sure how else to ask. Is there a way to set Lycanthropy of a certain animal (ie weretiger or leopard) into the character sheet to get a page for the hybrid form?

Oh, I'm definitely procrastinating, I'm a chronic procrastinator. But for now it's mostly with stuff like working on the campaign I DM, so it's still somewhat related ;)

MorePurpleMoreBetter

got it working, thank you!

Adam

That's unfortunate. Can you please try a different browser? Also, it might not work in incognito/private mode on some browsers as they then don't allow local storage.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Keep getting a timeout error.

Adam

In my humble opinion, procrastination is acceptable if the work gets done in the end. Not to say you're procrastinating, it sounds like you have valid reasons, but even if you didn't, I'm just happy to get it at some point. I'm also happy to know you care about the punctuality of your posts, but as a chronic procrastinator myself, don't stress too much about it, making character sheets for a living should be fun, not stressful! Don't worry about me, like I said, I'm just happy to see that notification pop up whenever it does
