v13.0.8+210929 new stable version for patrons & Poll for what's next

It has been almost a year since the previous stable release, so it is high time for another one! Content updates have been behind ever since the decisive poll to push for magic item support before adding more content, which was continued with me taking time off for my house and soon after again with my daughter being born. I’m very happy to announce that this great content catchup has finally come to an end.

This stable release uses a slightly different way of numbering its version than the previous stable release. Previously, there was a different minor version between the free and the paid/Patreon version. This will no longer be the case going forward. Instead, the version number (13.0.8) will stay the same, but the build number (every after the "+", so "210929" for this release) will only be there for the Patreon version. The build number is nothing more than the date of the pre-loaded content scripts. This way I can update the content without having to make a new version of the sheet.

The previous poll made it pretty clear that very few of you are interested in me updating the adventure logsheet, which was the next phase I had planned. Thus, now I'm looking for another 'next step' for MPMB's Character Record Sheets. Please vote on the poll below how you would like me to proceed. My question for you today is:

Would you rather have me adapt the missing Unearthed Arcana (UA) content or leave them be and work on adding new functionality to the sheet?

Unfortunately, not all Unearthed Arcana content has made it into the sheet. The stuff that is still missing, are those articles that:

I think the first one of these is not very interesting to revisit, as it is stuff that is already available in the sheet, but just as its (marginally different) playtest version.
However, the second and third missing content might be interesting to some of you.

Content updates will still continue when anything new is published by WotC, this poll is just about past UA articles that have been skipped.

You're doing a great job

Fergus Wyrm

Mine either.

Doug Kennie

Just a quick shout to you MPMB. Much love to you and yours, and thank you for an incredible tool.

Mike Gonzalez

My DM doesn't allow for UA

FuSoYa

Not interested in UA. I would love some pages similar to the Wild Shapes with the stats of commonly summoned creatures, like the fey for Conjure Woodland Creatures.

Benoit Rivard

> Maybe collect the highest voted requests from Discord and make a poll here? That is the idea exactly! Although I might add some options that I consider good changes, and might leave out some stuff that I don't like (or that I think aren't feasible in a normal time-frame, like the suggestion to create an app instead of a PDF).

I'm considering updating the Dungeons & Dragons Essentials Kit sidekick rules to the Tasha's Cauldron of Everything version. However, I will never implement an option to have the class applied to a base creature of your choosing. They will function like any other class in the sheet (i.e. for the main character, not as a template for the companion page). I hope that will be something you can work with :)

You can find the feature requests (and suggest more) over on the MPMB Discord server. Only Patreon subscribers can vote on the features (you do need to have your Discord account linked to your Patreon account for that to work). You can join the discord with this link: https://discord.gg/Qjq9Z5Q You can read more about how this works here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/33362548

The sidekick rules as found in the Dungeons & Dragons Essentials Kit are implemented. However, this source is set to be excluded by default, because of the possible confusion those 3 classes would add. I can't tell you from the top of my head how those rules differ from the UA version, but I think they are pretty close. Thus, all you have to do is include the source "DnDEK" and you will be able to select the Expert, Warrior, and Spellcaster classes.

From a conversation about Tasha's sidekick guidelines on Discord: redacted — 06/29/2021 "I could be blind but did the sidekicks ever get a tasha's update for the code or no?" Nod_Hero — 06/29/2021 "not as of yet" morepurplemorebetter — 06/30/2021 "And they probably will never get that (completely), because in Tasha's you can take any creature as a base, and that's simply too many options to script. Ideally, it would be a template added to the companion page, but companions are not at all set up at the moment for level-based additions or gaining spells. It would be a very big overhaul, akin to adding magic item functionality, and we all know how quick and easy that was."

Nod

No interest in UA. AL is opening up so a simplified tracking page for which adventures a PC took part in is important to keep. Otherwise focus on official content as it pours out.

Greg Smith

I want the Sidekick rules from Tasha's implemented.

Jeramie Brown

I’m not worried about UA at all. In my opinion, it can be the last thing/ lowest priority.

Adam

The only UA I personally would like to use (the Sidekick rules) I think were decided against working on because of how complex they would have been to implement.

Noldere

Like most of the people here, we don't really use UA material. The exception was the Revised Ranger, but even that is pretty useless post-Tasha's. Most Considering the announcements at D&D Celebration, time spent working on other features seems like it might be best. As always, you and your unofficial team do great work, Thanks!

Shad Gray

These sheets are great! Thanks for your hard work!

Steven Atteberry

I also just want to say THANK YOU for your sheets, I love them so much.

Loehn

Honestly, we dont use UA content and prefer to see the published stuff. Love your sheets!

Frank Sewell

Do not care about UA. New content keeps coming out rapid fire from WOTC. I’d just concentrate on keeping up.

Phillip Reed

I never use UA, so I'd rather the other. Thank you for all your work.

Kate McDonald

You're Awesome!

Dr.Medic

I like to have the UA that are the most current version of a concept, but if something is superseded, reworked or so unworkable it's explicitly called out as abandoned then I don't have any interest in it being on the sheet. It's good practice to keep adding the UA as they come because you never know how they'll turn out but I don't think it's worth going back for any you missed.

Bevan Smith

What I would love to see is some content from DM's Guild. The books Tasha's Crucible of Everything Else and Xanathar's Lost Notes to Everything Else would be amazing. I'll even increase my patreon level for a year if you go with those :)

Loehn

Most of the good UA has been published, so I'm down with ignoring the rest of it.

Loehn

Other features would be cool but it's pretty great as it is. Honestly I'd be ok just waiting for the three books about to be released. Take some time off and relax with the baby, work on features if you have time! Thanks for all you do!

Patrick Carrillo

I'm 100% in favor of leaving "moot UA" behind and adding in feature requests. If I may be so bold, an additional page for more attacks would be at the top of my wish list, closely followed with more magic items spaces. Maybe collect the highest voted requests from Discord and make a poll here?

Nod

To heck with UA. Definitely content creation and optimization.

Josh

I'm all for feature request. Just curious, what kinds of feature requests are we talking about?

Paul Muzzin

I generally only use the published material anyway, so more features >>>> UA any day.

Kevin Mauro

First off - thanks for all you do. I'm of the opinion that any good UA usually makes its way to an official publication, so sheet functionality sounds way better to me.

Joe Cardino

Optimizing the sheet I think is the best option now, possible minor bugs and other calculations etc are more important than UA content for me. Playtesting UA to determine whether or not it will become official is not the purpose of the sheet in my opinion. You have done an amazing job and made my life easier both as a player and as a DM, so thank you for all your work! All the best to you and your family!

Orestis Pafiliaris

While adding UA content is good for playtesting, I don't think it should take any priority over published content or sheet features.

Aaron Jacobson

Personally I don't care about any UA content, so my vote is whatever you would enjoy most 😉
