v13.0.0beta22

I hoped to make this beta available for all of you a week earlier, but I had a flight to catch and no time left to finish the final touches and testing before I left to visit family abroad. Contrary to all planning, but very much in line with expectations, I was unable to complete the remaining code abroad. But now that I'm back home I can finally present you with a new beta!

The latest Unearthed Arcana: Class Feature Variants has introduced some new concepts that the sheet wasn't ready for. This beta is the result of trying to implement those concepts. When you now include the UA:CFV source, it will give you the option to select the variants using the "Choose Feature" button on the 2nd page. There are a lot of moving parts to these variants and I fully expect not everything to work 100% out of the box. Thus, please report any issues you find!

For those of you interested in making import scripts and making your own class feature variants or adding new (extra)choices to features, take a look at the functions  CreateClassFeatureVariant and  AddFeatureChoice in the FunctionsImport file on my GitHub.

Why  not release v13 right now you ask? The answer is the same as for the  previous three beta releases: I would like to (finally) have a website  up and running where I can host it, with a dedicated way for bug  reporting and frequently asked questions. You might have noticed that  none of the bookmarks that link to my website work at the moment. I  would like for that to be remedied before releasing v13 outside of this  Patreon. I came a long way with making the website, but stopped working  on it as I was putting more time and effort towards finishing the  support for magic items. The website is working, it just needs contents,  so that is what I’ll be focussing on next.

I understand how inconvenient the limitation on importing from betas has been and like to remedy this issue. Because beta14 through beta22 have no underlying changes in the fields or functions, it will be possible to import between beta14 through beta22 without issue. Also, you can expect to be able to import your character from beta14 through beta22 over to the final v13.

One caveat, if you are importing from a beta15 or beta16 that has a duplication error with the ability score increase from magic items, than that duplication error will also be brought over into this beta.

So please don’t hesitate to use this beta as your full character sheet, there shouldn’t be any issues bringing anything from it along over to the stable release of v13.

However, it still won’t be possible to import from betas older than beta14 (v13.0.0beta - v13.0.0beta13), as they do have different fields and/or functions that won't translate.

Thank you so much for clarifying. Expectation wise what I imagined is actually what the Full class list option does, I did a dumb and never noticed that option, only knew about the Complete Warlock Spell List which didn't have subclass and expanded spells included. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, and thank you for creating such an awesome and pretty automated sheet, Merry Christmas!

Renata

Thank you for reporting any issues you find with the beta! The spell versatility feature doesn't change anything about the behaviour of how spell sheets are generated. It just allows you to change a cantrip or spell known every long rest. To do that in the sheet, you would have to generate a new spell sheet with the change. There really is no way to incorporate this feature. How were you expecting the spell sheet generation to behave? An alternative way of making it easier to work with the Spell Versatility feature is to generate a spell sheet with all Warlock cantrips and spells (the option "Full class list (spells & cantrips)" at the bottom right in the spell selection dialog). That way, you can mark which ones you currently known and easily swap them around.

Hello, I am creating a warlock in v13beta22 using the revised class ua and have the spell versatility feature enabled, however the spell sheet creation still makes the same sheet as if this feature wasn't enabled. Is this the expected behavior in this version or am I missing some step?

I am not sure if this has been brought up yet but for the Ranger the Favored Enemy feature in the drop down menu is not available.

When making a ranger with the new variant rules, the bonus spells from Primal Awareness doesn't actually get added to the spell sheet for me, after regenerating the sheet

I became a patreon of MPMB a couple of months ago, while the patreon version of the MPMB sheets is pretty awesome, the free version is just fine for play. That being said, I think this project is amazing, and for a dollar a month, you get access to the latest updates right away along with a seat at the table when it comes to giving input to future additions to it.

If you join my Patreon and are unhappy with whatever you find, I'll happily refund your pledge if you ask me.

You can do this by writing "Hexblade" in the name of the weapon, e.g. "Longsword (Hexblade)". This is explained in the pop-up when you level up, where it talks about attack calculations. You can also revisit that dialog by clicking on the little square button in the line of any attack, and selecting the bottom option in the menu to show all things affecting the attack calculations.

This is true, you can't select the same fighting style multiple times according to the rules and the sheet has no way of checking which fighting style you selected for another class. You just have to read the rules before using the sheet, as has always been the intention of the sheet. It is not a replacement for reading the rules. EDIT: That being said, I like the idea of making this more clear for the users of the sheet. I'll look into implementing this in the next version of the sheet.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

I noticed that when two different classes can offer the same fighting style, the sheet allows you to get the same benefit twice, which I believe the rules say you cannot do.

Matthew Starkston

Look at the r/MPMB Reddit (it has a link with scripts, including the ones you mentioned).

Matthew Thornton

I have been looking at becoming a patreon for a while but I would like to know if you have added: Xanathar's guide and Mordenkainen's tome. I have tried looking for that info but can't seem to find it.

Paul Clark

Cool thanks, one other thing I have noticed, but it's not a bug, but would be a nice feature. Is there someway to make a weapon that is the Pact of the Blade weapon, the issue is that as a Hexblade I can attune my weapon to me, or use a pact weapon and it uses my CHA modifier instead of the normal for attack and damage mod.

Hunter

When using the UA Rune Knight from recent UA article, I attempt to select runes from the choose features option on the second page. It adds text to the notes section of the third page but the text is not the expected text explaining the rune, instead it says: "◆ Haug (Rune, PHB 73) [3 known] Use the "Choose Feature" button above to add a Maneuver to the third page I can use a Maneuver by expending a superiority die (only one Maneuver per attack)"

Chris Clowes

Thank you for explaining this better. There is indeed an issue with the magic items that use the class' spellcasting ability not setting the right spellcasting ability for the cantrips, I'll look into that. And Infestation doesn't seem to have the cantrip progression defined correctly, I'll fix this as well for the next version of the sheet. And the function to edit spells to include an ability score modifier to the damage is not working correctly in conjunction with Guardians of Faith and another handful of spells. Thank you for bringing that to my attention as well. I'll make sure it gets fixed!

Have we got an ETA on the new Eberron material support? No pressure, I just have a new campaign coming up and players asking if it'll be live before we start.

When I make a ranger the original favored enemy is selected by default but dosn't give me the option to select favored enemies unless I change to favored foe and then reselect favored enemy

Thank you for reporting any issues you find with the beta! > when I give my Warlock the Dark Shard Amulet it does not calculate like normal cantrips for those spells. Can you please specify what part of the cantrip is not calculated 'like normal cantrips'? Is it the spell attack bonus, the cantrip damage die, the DC? I just tested this magic item, and I get the same spell attack bonus and DC as my warlock attack/DC. Also, when I select to have the cantrips automatically scale on the spell sheet, it works as expected. If you are experiencing something else than this, can you please walk me through how to get the sheet to show these problems, starting with a freshly downloaded sheet? > Also the spells that use a modifier, I noticed is on Magic Stone, it doesn't know what my spell casting ability was to add it. I'm sorry, what are you trying to say here? This sentence is hard to understand for me, maybe it is because I'm not a native English speaker. Are you perhaps trying to say that when you select Magic Stone on the 1st page, in the attack section, it uses the wrong ability score (e.g. Wisdom instead of Charisma)? Please know that when you add a cantrip on the 1st page before adding any spellcasting classes, the sheet will use the most likely spellcasting ability score (e.g. Wisdom for Magic Stone, as Druid is alphabetically the first class which can use it). Only once you select a spellcasting class and then add a cantrip, will the sheet know which spellcasting ability score to use. If you already have the cantrip selected, just remove it and add it again and it should get the right ability score. Or manually change the ability score. I did take another look at the item and have tuned the code so that the list of cantrips won't have the first column and will not include any cantrips already selected as known for the warlock class. However, none of these things seem to be the issues you are describing and I don't seem to be able to reproduce any of them. Can you help me reproduce them?

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Two things I noticed, when I give my Warlock the Dark Shard Amulet it does not calculate like normal cantrips for those spells. Also the spells that use a modifier, I noticed is on Magic Stone, it doesn't know what my spell casting ability was to add it.

Hunter

Thank you for reporting any issues you find with the beta! > On Page 1, all my saves calculate correctly. The "Ability Save DC" shows Proficiency Bonus + 8 + Charisma Mod, which is technically correct so far. There seems to be no addition of the magic bonus from the Robe yet. This is intentional, the Ability Save DC on the first page is not the same as the Spell Save DC on the spell sheets. This is because on the first page it is grouped by ability score and it thus can't keep track of class-specific changes. For example, if you would have had the Rod of the Pact Keeper, you Warlock DC wouldn't be the same as your Sorcerer DC. > For the Attacks, Agonizing Blast calculates to +16, which is correct, but the Fire Bolt and Chill Touch add to +19. I think the ranged spell attack calculation is also adding my dex to the Fire Bolt and Chill Touch, but not the Agonizing Blast. > The Staff of Power adds its own list, but shows the Spell Attack at only +6, and Save DC at 14. Both these things are very strange and I am unable to reproduce them. Can you walk me through how to get the sheet to show these things, starting with a freshly downloaded beta22? Might you have some kind of Eldritch Invocation selected that would edit the spell attacks? Or added something manually to the modifier fields for those attacks? Also, does the Staff of Power show the right numbers when you select a different ability score and then select Charisma again? > I added a Cubic Gate and the calculation is completely different, so I don't know. With the Cube, the numbers are +9 / DC 17. The DC for Cubic Gate is fixed at 17, see the DMG, so this is correct. > PS: I was able to import beta21 into beta22. It took out one of my language selections (manually typed). The spell sheet is also missing the heading for Level 8 in the Sorc spell section. Unfortunately, importing is rather unstable and you will have to check everything to see if nothing was skipped. It is not possible to import everything correctly, especially if you are using your machine for anything else while the import function is doing its thing. However, I'm happy to have a look if I can find the reason for these two things not working. Please send me (a link to) your beta21 character sheet so I can take a look what might be causing this problem.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Hi, I have found a couple of small things: I'm using v13.0.0beta22, filled with a Warlock 5 / Sorc 15, equipped and attuned to Robe of the Archmagi, Ring of Protection, and Staff of Power. On Page 1, all my saves calculate correctly. The "Ability Save DC" shows Proficiency Bonus + 8 + Charisma Mod, which is technically correct so far. There seems to be no addition of the magic bonus from the Robe yet. My AC is correct. For the Attacks, Agonizing Blast calculates to +16, which is correct, but the Fire Bolt and Chill Touch add to +19. I think the ranged spell attack calculation is also adding my dex to the Fire Bolt and Chill Touch, but not the Agonizing Blast. I've tried removing the entries a few times and it comes back calculated the same each time. On the Spells Sheet, the attack bonus seems to be good for my base spells, +16. The Spell Save DC calculates correctly to DC 22, which doesn't match with Page 1. The Staff of Power adds its own list, but shows the Spell Attack at only +6, and Save DC at 14. I think the wording of the item says it uses my own attack / save numbers, so I only assume it doesn't add it all up correctly. But, I added a Cubic Gate and the calculation is completely different, so I don't know. With the Cube, the numbers are +9 / DC 17. Manually calculating it all, I should have: Spell Attack: Prof + Cha + Magic, 6 + 6 + 4 (+2 from Robe, +2 from Staff) = +16 Save DC: 8 + Prof + Cha + Magic, 8 + 6 + 6 + 2 (+2 from Robe) = DC 22 Hopefully I've read the PHB and items correctly, and I haven't made any simple mistakes. Thanks! PS: I was able to import beta21 into beta22. It took out one of my language selections (manually typed). The spell sheet is also missing the heading for Level 8 in the Sorc spell section.

Apologies for my late response. I have been trying to research this issue, but everything has come up empty. I don't own a Mac, so testing is hard for me. I have never had Adobe Acrobat crash, just errors being thrown and the process coming to a halt. Your best bet is to try and uninstall Acrobat and re-install it. I think it more likely that this is something to do with your machine, because (1) nobody else has reported any issues like this and (2) the selecting of a file is not something that is special about my sheets, it uses a generic Acrobat function. One question though, because it is unclear for me. You talk about navigating to the folder, then selecting "Relative path" in the JS Window, and only then closing the Finder window. I'm a bit confused, because normally you can only close the Finder window and then continue doing anything in the JS Window in Acrobat. Also, be aware that if you select "Relative path" the sheet will use the path of the current file + whatever you entered as the file you try to open. So if the current file is in the folder "/User/example/DnD/" and you enter in the JS Window that you want to open the file "charsheet.pdf", it will try to open "/User/example/DnD/charsheet.pdf". However, if you enter the full path "/User/example/DnD/charsheet.pdf" and select "Relative path", the sheet will try to open "/User/example/DnD//User/example/DnD/charsheet.pdf". Possibly, this is causing the crash. Going by your description I don't think that is it, because then the crash would happen as soon as you hit "Import" in the JS Window, and not already when you close the Finder window.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Thank you for reporting any issues you find with the beta! I'll make sure this is fixed in the next version. The way that the maneuvers are handled has been completely redone for beta22, so there were bound to be some hiccups.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Was making a fighter, choose superior fighting technique. The battlemeaster maneuver will not load onto the third page. I tried all of them without luck. Otherwise, the sheet is legen - wait for it, I hope you're not lactose intolerant - DARY!!

William Carnahan

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this question, but I don't know where else to ask my question. I have a character sheet that is v13 beta 20. Every time I try to import a PDF into a new v13 beta 22, it crashes Adobe Reader DC (Mac version). I click Import/Export>Import directly from a MPMB character sheet PDF. In the JS window, I navigate to the folder I saved empty beta 22 and the beta 20 sheet (both in the same folder), then check "relative path." As soon as I click select in the Finder window, Acrobat immediatly crashes. I even tried with now imported content scripts, and get the same result. I'm sure that I'm doing something wrong as I've never been able to use this feature the character sheet. Any advise would be appreciated.

Clayton Thomson

Although I love adding new content to the sheet's automation, making the content fit in the sheet nicely takes a lot of time. Because of that, I limit myself to WotC content. Any other material will not become part of the sheet by default, but might become available on my GitHub if a Sorcerer-tier or higher patron makes a request or on the /r/mpmb subreddit if a fan writes a script for it. To get additional content for the sheet that isn't yet available, you have three options: 1) Become a Sorcerer-tier (or higher) patron and I will make one addition for you each month; 2) Ask somebody else to write the content for you. Requests are best made over at the /r/mpmb subreddit ( https://reddit.com/r/mpmb ); 3) Write the script yourself using the syntax on my GitHub ( https://flapkan.com/mpmb/syntax ). Don't forget to check if somebody else has already made the content you are looking for. The /r/mpmb subreddit is the best place to look for it ( https://reddit.com/r/mpmb ). In the past I have made some third-party content like the DMs Guild material by Matthew Mercer, but I currently have no plans of transcribing any other third-party material to be used with the sheet.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Hi! Question maybe about a bit outdated thing. Are there please any plans to eventually incorporate subclasses from Morgrave Miscellany, or does it fall under the Homebrew tab? Thanks.

Radoslav Ragan

I too am eagerly awaiting this addition! We are starting a new group and one player is an artificer. But yes please don't feel rushed- in my group we are big fans of this content and we appreciate the effort and accuracy.

Jade Foote

I know you just put out the new beta with the newest UA content. Do you have an idea of when you will update the Artificer class as the Eberron campaign setting was released? Not trying to rush you, I love this character sheet. Just wondering when I will be able to use this version for my games. Thanks for all the great work!

Benny Young

Note: When I manually added them using the Bonus Spells section of the Spell Sheet, they did correctly display the 1X/LR tag on the spell sheet automatically.

Chris Clowes

Created a Ranger to test the new class feature variants and selected the enhanced Primal Awareness feature that adds bonus spells you can cast once per long rest. I do not see these bonus spells on the spell sheet.

Chris Clowes

Thank you for reporting any issues you find with the beta! You are correct, I didn't account for the Mystic Arcanum spells being added through the bonus spells function and not through the normal spell selection. I'll fix this in the import script.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

I've been messing around with the Warlock, and everything seems to be working fine, but with the expanded spell list from the Class Feature Variants, it doesn't seem to be showing the expanded Mystic Arcanum options (such as Create Homunculus and Magic Jar for 6th level arcanum) when I go to generate a spell sheet. Amazing work on the sheet though, it's come so far since I picked it up sometime in v12 on DM's Guild

Gavin Stolk

Thank you for reporting any issues you find with the beta! I will make sure this is fixed, there is indeed something wrong in the code, thus not adding the Blessed Strike variant correctly.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Messing around with a cleric, and I see that the class feature variant "Blessed Strikes" was missing, or I just don't know how to enable it. It is missing from the "choose features" button. Just a heads up, thanks for your work on the sheet!
