v13.0.0beta19

It has been almost two months since the last update and it is high time for a new version with fixes. This beta introduces some content from recent WotC releases, including the Unearthed Arcana articles with a new subclass for the barbarian, monk, sorcerer, warlock, bard, and paladin, the sidekick rules from the D&D Essentials Kit, and the magic items from Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus.

Note that I didn’t incorporate the sidekick rules from the Unearthed Arcana article, because those rules are meant to add levels on any CR 1 or lower creature. This is something beyond the scope of the sheet (for now) as that would require (1) transcribing a lot more creatures for the sheet (think hundreds more) and (2) making it possible to have levels on the companion page, which would require a re-imaging of the code behind the companion page. The sidekick rules from the Essentials Kit will be excluded by default so that it isn’t always possible to select those classes. These classes are selectable as normal classes for the main character, as it is not possible to give levels to anything on the companion page.

I’m trying out one of the new Patreon post options, to post a link to the beta download page. Hopefully it is not too confusing!

For those of you wondering why only these things are updated after two months, I haven’t been able to spend as much time on the sheet as I would’ve liked because a lot of time was lost going to (different) doctors and hospitals. It took us quite a while to get the (right) diagnosis, but now that we have it shouldn’t be such a time-consuming thing anymore.

On top of that, I had fun with a raid array crashing, and then the power went out while rebuilding that array. Thus, I was forced to recover all my files from backup. Luckily, I had everything backed up, except the website that I have been working on for ages. Although ages is a bit unfair, as I have mostly been letting it sit because I wasn’t really pleased with the design. Thus, I’m back to square one with the website, but the good thing is that I am forced to come up with a new design. So not all bad, but definitely a lot of work lost.

Why not release v13 right now you ask? The answer is the same as for the previous three beta releases: I would like to (finally) have a website up and running where I can host it, with a dedicated way for bug reporting and frequently asked questions. You might have noticed that none of the bookmarks that link to my website work at the moment. I would like for that to be remedied before releasing v13 outside of this Patreon. I came a long way with making the website, but stopped working on it as I was putting more time and effort towards finishing the support for magic items. The website is working, it just needs contents, so that is what I’ll be focussing on next.

I understand how inconvenient the limitation on importing from betas has been and like to remedy this issue. Because beta14 through beta19 have no underlying changes in the fields or functions, it will be possible to import between beta14 through beta19 without issue. Also, you can expect to be able to import your character from beta14 through beta19 over to the final v13.

One caveat, if you are importing from a beta15 or beta16 that has a duplication error with the ability score increase from magic items, than that duplication error will also be brought over into this beta.

So please don’t hesitate to use this beta as your full character sheet, there shouldn’t be any issues bringing anything from it along over to the stable release of v13.

However, it still won’t be possible to import from betas older than beta14 (v13.0.0beta - v13.0.0beta13), as they do have different fields and/or functions that won't translate.

More people have reported similar issues, like this post by another MPMB user here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/29161161 Long story short, it is hard to point at something that is the cause as different people have found different solutions. The things you could take a look at: - DPI scaling and accessibility setting in your operating system. - Settings or driver(s) for your GPU or other graphic adapters. You can test if it is the settings by booting your machine into safe mode and/or making another user on your machine and seeing if the same thing happens under that user account. One patron reported that the issue was only solved after a fresh install of Windows 10. Thus you can always try that as a last resort.

Not a problem with this beta but does anyone know why Adobe Acrobat Reader DC has changed the text size it displays drop down lists in? The issue that is had with this is any drop down lists you can enter your own text into must be limited to the space of the new drop down box as it's displayed which is about 6 text height units bigger than the actual area it will be displayed on the sheet. This limits you to about 3/4 of the space. I'm also sure it used to allow overflow. This change effects old forms so it's something with the reader, but mine never updates. I can't find any help online and was wondering if anyone has come across this. I'll find a way to post pictures if asked, but I dont have a posting account.

I'm just going to repeat my answer from the last time this was asked, sorry if it is not fully applicable. The sheet does not include an option to automatically select attacks from spells, but you can manually add it. The reason for this is that the spell options are pretty endless and it would just clutter up the attack drop-down. You can change the damage value box with the modifier fields. These fields are hidden by default, but you can toggle their visibility with the "Modifiers" bookmark. That will give you the ability to set the damage to anything you like :)

It might be nice to add Shadow Blade as a weapon for the front page.

yup, don't know why I am so blind, found it just after i posted this. Thanks a ton

There is, you can find the syntax on my GitHub: http://flapkan.com/mpmb/syntax For adding content to v13, look in the v13_WIP folder.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Question: Is there a specific syntax for adding homebrew items into the charsheet?

Pavel Iusco

Thank you for reporting any issues with the betas! This is indeed an oversight, I'll make sure it is fixed in the next version.

Just a heads up, Under the "Legalese" background feature, it looks like smuggler info was copied again instead of the background information for Legalese. Keep up the good work!

Cody McCaffrey

You are correct that Devil's Sight is better than Darkvision and having both noted in the Vision section doesn't really add any value (except if you would happen to be in a anti-magic area). However, the sheet doesn't have any way of comparing these kind of abilities and only showing the one that matters. it compares them based on their name to show the one that is applicable. For example, if you get Darkvision from two sources, but one is 60 ft and another is 120 ft, it will only show the 120 ft one. But there is no meta-list of things like Devil's Sight superseding Darkvision, because something like that is a whole different approach.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

I don't know if this is still on this beta but in 18 i think devil's sight should replace tiefling darkvision (as is the same but more range and include magical darkness)

Sergio Tarilonte

I can see Rod of the Pact Keeper in the list of magic items and select it without issue. Are you sure you have its source, the DMG, set to be included? Can you also not find it when using the button (little square) in the magic item line? Pressing that button should bring up a menu with an option "Change item to" where you can more easily find all magic item options.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

All versions of Rod of the Pactkeeper are missing from this version

Zoe Morgenstern

I have totally missed that there were any new rules for backgrounds in Descent into Avernus. I'll have to take a look through the book again to see where I can find those.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Does this version include the modified background features included in Descent into Avernus? Didn't see them mentioned in the notes.

Chris Clowes

You, friend, are a god among mortals. This character sheet is simply phenomenal.
