12.997 - Bugfix for importing, text lines, and many, many more

It has been a month without any updates, that hasn't happened before in the life of MPMBs Character Sheets!

Many helpful people reported on big and small bugs in the sheet and this version tries to combat them.

People who have access to the shared Dropbox/Google Drive folder might have seen version 12.996 come available without me posting anything about it. Now there is an even newer version, but it differs only with regards to the last two points on the list below.

Changelog for MPMB's Character Record Sheet v12.997 (29 July 2017):

• Fix for importing from PDF with a character that has attacks defined (thanks Astromath and Mike T. for reporting);

• Fix for not being able to generate a spell sheet with all spells in any other way than just alphabetically;

• Fix for not being able to select the spell sheet in the print dialogue (thanks Leonard B. for reporting);

• Fix for not being able to hide the text lines for multi-line fields on all pages (thanks Charlie G. for reporting);

• Fix for the last entry on the AL logsheet not having a date-picker (thanks @BurntToast256 for reporting);

• Fix for importing from older versions that contain an AL logsheet (before v11.6);

• Fix for importing from a PDF that contains an AL logsheet with a date that is entered in an alternative format or an incorrect format (thanks Violet for reporting);

• Fix for importing from an older version that contains any kind of ‘special’ companion (e.g. find familiar or ranger companion) (thanks Mark W. for reporting);

• Fix for not all icons importing on the Printer Friendly sheets (with the help of Violet);

• Added a menu for quicker access to the sources from the Source and Class Selection dialogues;

• Change for the Spell Points not showing in the Limited Features section when they total 0 (as suggested by uly);

• Fix for multiclassing bards not always getting their extra musical instrument proficiency (thanks Bobster for reporting);

• Fix for the upgrade/downgrade xp dialogue not always showing the right experience point values;

• Fixed some more issues with adding weapons/ammunition to the equipment section using the automation (thanks Astromath for reporting);

• Fixed the Import Directly dialogue to show the path to the Javascripts folder again (thanks John for reporting)

• Fix for the Wild Shape limitations not always appearing correctly on the Wild Shape pages (thanks Astromath for reporting);

• Fix for the Tyrannosaurus attacks (thanks Ken for reporting);

• Fix for the Feeblemind spell description (thanks Eric for reporting);

• Fix for the Medium Armor Master feat applying its effects on current armour as well (thanks Stuart L. for reporting);

• Fixed several typos (thanks everybody for reporting these, no matter how small).

• Fix for the Aasimar Revenant not being applied correctly (thanks Tove L. A. for reporting);

• Fix for the Thunder Cannon and its ammunition not interacting with the equipment section correctly (thanks uly for reporting).

Just like all other occurences of 'Once per day' in the PHB, it should be played as once per long rest. The two others have been erratad, but for a some reason this one has only been addressed via Twitter : <a href="https://www.sageadvice.eu/2016/07/21/arcane-recovery-once-per-day-or-after-a-long-rest/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.sageadvice.eu/2016/07/21/arcane-recovery-once-per-day-or-after-a-long-rest/</a>

I believe the Arcane Recovery feature for wizards is once per day, which means it recovers once at dawn. However, on the first two pages of the printer friendly version, it says it recovers once per long rest. I’m using version 12.997 of the printer friendly sheet with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (2017.012.200984) and don’t see any JavaScript errors.

Updating your character to a newer version of the sheet is made easy by the import functionality. Click on the "Import" button (or "Import/Export" bookmark) and in the menu that appears select "Import Directly from PDF". Then follow the steps in the dialogues that appear. This way the sheet copies everything from the old version without you having to set anything manually. You can run code from the console to more easily make the list of spells you want to exclude. To open the console in Adobe Acrobat Pro, press CTRL+J. In Adobe Acrobat Reader, the shortcut doesn't work, but you can open the console from the "Add Custom Script" dialogue. Once the console is open, paste the code below into it. Then select all the lines of the code, and press CTRL+ENTER to run the code. In the code I'm assuming that you don't want to exclude any other spells than those from the Elemental Evil Player's Companion. After you run the code, all spells from the Elemental Evil Player's Companion are excluded. You will now have to go into the Source Selection dialogue and include those that you want included, which should be a lot less challenging than the other way around :)
CurrentSources.spellsExcl = []; for (var sp in SpellsList) { if (SpellsList[sp].source[0] == "E") { CurrentSources.spellsExcl.push(sp); }; };
Good luck!

I have a Spells question. My players are playing through the Princes of the Apocalypse campaign and our Druid has discovered some new spells unique to that campaign. I want to add only the 2 spells she has discovered to her sheet. One way I could do it is I could click the “Exclude” button and then manually remove all of the EE spells except for the 2 I need. I actually tried that, but the interface is brutal because every time I click the “<” button, it scrolls the right window back to the top and I have to try to find where I was. But more significantly, all of the PHB spells are in there too so it’s like hunting for a needle in a haystack finding only EE spells to remove, scrolling every time. Anyways, there has GOT to be a better way to do this. My preferred interface would be something like the Wizard spellbook where the Druid can add select spells from a source to her list of known spells. Can you help? I'm using Character Record Sheet v12.82 (Printer Friendly - Redesign) I know there’s a more recent version, but it takes a lot of work to copy/paste all the content over. But I’ll upgrade if my question is fixed in a newer version.

Thank you for reporting this bug, I made a tiny mistake in bringing the Blood Hunter code up to date with the new way the sheet works. I changed it now, but also included some 'fixes' for the next version of the sheet (v12.998). I hope to be able to publish this next version either today or tomorrow, depending on how long all the testing takes. So please be careful that the new code for the Blood Hunter might not work properly with v12.997.

Never mind i figured out how to add custom content!....the way you gave syntax templates was a great idea and they're well marked and noted thanks for your awesome work!

Alphamine19

I was getting my companions set up for my WuJen mystics summon/animate abilities and noticed that the Shadow from the monster manual wasn't an option I know your busy but figured it couldn't hurt to let you know! Thanks for the awesome tool!

I was creating a Blood Hunter Lycan with the javascript on GitHub and when hybrid transformation becomes available at level 3 a popup says the information will be available on the notes page. However, nothing ever fills in that page. Do you know what I would need to change to make this work? This is using the current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, fresh downloaded sheet from dmsguild, and the github code that was posted today.

Christopher Lahr

Thank you for reporting this typo, I will make sure it is fixed in the next version!

noticed a spelling mistake on Bard (college of swords) mobile Flourish: If the attack *this*, I can use a die... should be hits

I'd like to request a section on the Printer-Friendly Sheet for exhaustion and conditions please and thank you. Best sheet out there. <3

Hi MPMB, just wanted to see if there are any updates in the pipeline! Thank you as always for your amazing work.

Erik T.

Thank you for reporting this spelling error! Funny enough, I copied the description directly from the original source, page 8 of the Adventurers League 'State of Hillsafar' supplement (<a href="http://dndadventurersleague.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Hillsfar-Regional-Character-Options.pdf" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://dndadventurersleague.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Hillsfar-Regional-Character-Options.pdf</a>). The original document has "Rouges Guild", haha!

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Typo alert: under the background feature "Secret Passage" the dreaded "Rouges Guild" (Should be, of course, "Rogues' Guild" - or maybe even "Thieves' Guild"; I don't have the source handy.).

Kevin Hagerman

Thank you for reporting any issues you have with the sheet. This particular issue has been reported above in this same comment section. I wrote a more elaborate response above to Martyn Allan, please see that for more info on the issue and a temporary fix until the new version.

So I tried importing my character into the new sheet, and when it "finishes" importing, the only thing added is my color scheme, and JavaScript debugger pops up with "An error occured during importing: TypeError: tDoc.getField(...) is null fileName: Document-Level:Functions0; lineNumber: 969; columnNumber: 0;"

Amy Cheuka

That is a weird bug and not something that has happened when I generate a spell sheet for my fighter cleric. Can you tell me how to recreate this bug (the exact things you filled out in the dialogues) and send me the sheet where you experienced the bug so I can investigate it further? Thank you!

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Another small bug, when excluding UA spells, it leaves a blank line where the spell would print out, noticed this on my AL multiclass fighter cleric

Tim Kelley

To limit the space used in the Class Feature section on the second page, the Extra Attack feature is not listed there. Instead, you can find a "Number of attacks per action" section on the Colourful sheets, and the action "Attack (X per action)" will be automatically added on the Printer-Friendly sheets for any character that has more than one attack.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Is there any indicator for the "Extra Attack" or is it just known?

Jeremy

Thank you for reporting this, I will fix it in the next version!

small spelling error in the quick finger feat from unearth arcana. it says to "plan something on someone" instead of "plant something on someone

hankoconnell

Of course, by typing it into the field for speed.

MorePurpleMoreBetter

Is there a way to manually enable Swim Speed?

Erik T.

ok I emailed you a link to the character sheet I am having the javascript problem when I try to import in 12.997. It is presently 12.995.

Scott Adams

I am having the same problem as Martyn. I am sending you the character sheet, it is letter format I think 12.993 or 12.994.

Scott Adams

Thank you for reporting this bug. Something similar was reported for v12.995, but I can't find anything that might be causing this error. Can you please share the sheet that you are getting this error with when importing?

MorePurpleMoreBetter

I can't seem to import from pdf. Tried importing from a 12.995 and 12.996 document (note that 12.996 showed this error too and I manually transcribed) the javascript console is showing the following error: An error occured during importing: TypeError: tDoc.getField(...) is null fileName: Document-Level:Functions0; lineNumber: 969; columnNumber: 0;
