What to do with the Spell-less Ranger?
Added 2017-04-05 12:20:14 +0000 UTCAs I'm now going back to add support for all the older Unearthed Arcana articles, I will have some decisions to make on how to implement stuff. To help me with making these decisions, I'm coming to you!
The first problem in this regard is the spell-less ranger from Unearthed Arcana: Modifying Classes.
As it is now, the sheet has two different options for the Ranger: the one from the PHB, and the one from the UA: the Ranger, Revised. When you include the latter source, you will always get the Revised Ranger when you enter "Ranger" into the class field.
However, with this new spell-less ranger, there would be an effective third option that would listen to the name "Ranger". Thus, we need to decide which takes priority.

New subscriber here, I don't have an opinion on this vote, I just want to say how grateful I am for all of the work you have done, and how exceptional this sheet is. MPMB you are a friggin godsend. This is unbelievably beautiful work.

2017-04-05 19:50:07 +0000 UTCCan you add it as a selectable class feature like a fighting style or warlock pact

2017-04-05 19:07:59 +0000 UTCWhat you are asking is not possible with how the sheet is set up. A class can have subclasses, that are the options you see. A subclass can't have further a sub-subclass. The Ranger's each have their own subclasses (like the cleric domains) to select.

2017-04-05 18:02:03 +0000 UTCRemember that the source will only override if you include it. You will only override the PHB Ranger if you actively have the sheet include the Unearthed Arcana articles that have the Revised Ranger in them. Making the class field a drop-down box would make multiclassing a bit of an issue and you will delete your whole character if you press the up or down key by mistake while having that field as active... but maybe I should just do it as a lot of people seem to struggle with the fact that they have to type the name of a class instead of selecting it from a drop-down box.

2017-04-05 17:55:28 +0000 UTCJoost, wouldit be possible to treat the various Ranger options like a cleric domain, or a sorcerer origin? "You've indicated Ranger, please pick the type of Ranger" in a modal? Failing that, I think having special keywords would be better than overrides -- "Ranger, Ranger (Martial),Ranger (Revised), etc." I've never played a Ranger (they didn't appeal to me), so please take with a grain of salt.

2017-04-05 17:09:45 +0000 UTCI don't like the idea of the source overriding any previous source. Since 2 of the 3 sources are not "official" and thereby not official for things like Adv League, I would like to see someway of differentiating with source we are using. Ideally, it would be nice to have a drop-down for class, instead of typing in the Class. Now, I don't know how that would affect multi-classing. I guess people usually open a blank form and can select the Sources each time they start up a new character. I have not created a bunch of characters in my return to D&D, but my main is a Ranger so I am interested in how this goes. Thanks for all the GREAT work!

2017-04-05 16:43:21 +0000 UTCWith the update to include all UA material, the new spells will also be included. I'm now going through the UA articles chronologically, starting with the oldest. Once all are done, I will release a new version of the sheet.

2017-04-05 12:40:22 +0000 UTCDo you have a schedule for including the newest UA article with the new spells? Some of them look really good.

2017-04-05 12:37:16 +0000 UTCI'm not sure that I understand what you are getting at. Do you not know how the sheet handles source inclusion and exclusion currently, using the "Source Material" bookmark? There basically already is a system comparable to "a checkbox somewhere to allow for disabling the extra sources (default they're there)", but better. Note that the sources of the different class features will still be named as such in the "Class Features" section of the sheet.

2017-04-05 12:33:41 +0000 UTCI'd rather have the source named if it's not from the raw books simply because a lot of people will only want to refer to them - a checkbox somewhere to allow for disabling the extra sources (default they're there) - not sure how far to take that idea, but there's even the cut down free rules they've put up on their site as a limited source...

2017-04-05 12:28:59 +0000 UTCDo you really want that class field to say something like "Ranger, PHB (Hunter) 4, Cleric (War Domain) 3"? Because that's not really something that I would want. None of the backgrounds in the drop-down box on the first page has its source named in there, so I'm not sure what you getting at with 'like you do with some of the backgrounds'.

2017-04-05 12:27:00 +0000 UTCOr, how about Ranger, PHB; Ranger, UA: Revised; and, Ranger, Spell-less? IOW, Ranger first, then the source perhaps like you do with some of the backgrounds?
