Who on earth is this guy? Getting weary of these episodes where we have to listen to rightwing talking points, the rightwing has NOTHING to offer so why debate them? Where was he dredged up from? Does he have some nonsensical books he's plugging?

Both things can be true - NY/NYC failed Neely, and every other mentally ill person harassing people on the subway. Penny was a Marine who used lethal force to kill a fellow citizen. NYC's failure does not absolve Penny, nor does Penny have the right to essentially execute someone on the subway, regardless of what Neely says, or how much trash he throws. Penny's use of force was disproportionate, and it resulted in a man's death. Period. Penny may have done "what he felt was needed" - but obviously we don't know his state of mind. But if you watch that video and absolve Penny of responsibility...I don't know what to say man. Penny is a highly trained killing machine, and he should know better. This is not an own goal, we can walk and chew gum, and direct our ire at both.

After hearing this I went to read the TCM exchange with Bouie on twitter. Bouie clearly made TCW look like an entitled attention-seeking clown. People were chiming in because TCM kept following up with poorly thought-out responses. I suspect TCW is hitting people up to get interviews to undo some of the damage Bouie did to his reputation. Hence his appearance on the episode. In all fairness, Bouie is one of the most logical, measured, and analytical opinion journalists working these days.

Twitter is not the Left. And the Left has been talking about homelessness since before Marx. But the Left also has no power to take action. Maybe that’s why you feel hopeless to the situation? There is no own goal, we don’t have the ball to begin with.

By the end Thomas admitted he doesn't even take the subway, he's "afraid for his children" 💀 Lord, I never bring up The Class Divide but he is a clear cut case of someone who has the money to uber around NYC and judge public transit from afar as a way to channel his general hatred of poor people. He also denounced the protesters in France for being against the raising of retirement age from 62 to 64, saying old people should "want to work longer".

Been unreal seeing lefties attack Penny for the state's failures. It is obvious, and to be expected that when mentally ill people who have been and ARE violent, are allowed to roam public transport that sometimes people will judge what and when preventative interaction is needed based on their individual encounter. There is no way to hear the threat he issued and deny that he needed to be subdued and its insane for people to judge "what was enough force" when they weren't there to know or feel the sense of fear going on. Even as a 6 feet man from Europe living in NYC, the mentally ill people allowed to roam and accost people in the NYC subway is genuinely shocking and terrifying. It is impossible to be sure that mentally ill person is simply benign & not a threat to you and other once they start to interact menacingly, regardless if they have physically touched you. Penny (and the other bystanders) did what they felt was needed, and its honestly makes me lose faith when people attack one person rather than realise the situation is untenable and disgraceful and its the government who the anger should be focused on. There is no western country where you will see this - most of them have subways, all of them have mentally ill people. No one has what SF and NYC has. Lefties need to use this to focus on the government and not one person doing what at the time he felt was needed. Last year over 20 people where killed by mentally ill people in the NYC, yet no one did anything about the situation - blaming one individual for how they responded with a situation when you weren't there is shocking. Now that the media is focused on it direct the energy to the government. Lefties again score an own goal here.

This guy feigns ignorance & humanity while justifying lethal force. The point is that Penny wasn’t arrested until after public pressure. In the other instances, the perpetrators were arrested once identified. There are frequent stops in a subway, if everyone felt so threatened, they could get off and alert police. Penny is as damaged as the man he killed.
