FULL VIDEO: Red Wedding (w/ Katie Halper)

Great show! I loved hearing about the wedding and the critics are just out for drama. The problem isn't that MSM "journalists" are friends with the people they're supposed to be covering. The problem is that they aren't transparent about it, and that they care more about those friendships than about doing their jobs. The fact that the two of you are sitting there mulling it over and considering the question so thoughtfully is proof that you care deeply about the work you do. As for K&K -- they have been totally transparent about their friendship with Marianne. And one of the things I love about them is that they expect people to take that into consideration and then go and make their own judgements. This isn't MSNBC, where you're made to feel like a traitor if you don't follow the party line.

I'm only at the beginning but Revolutionary Blackout Network has DISAPPOINT!

Duborah Oya

I have. And I stand by my statement.

Great show! Revolutionary Blackout Network made a big deal about Brie, Katie and others attending the wedding for the purpose of 'access journalism' thanks to the photo-op with Marianne Williamson. Whether their meeting was contrived or just a coincidence is immaterial given the effect of optics in these spaces. Things are shaping up for 2024 and it will be interesting to see what transpires on the Left. As for Tucker Carlson there is debate about whether his business model that worked well on Fox will replicate its success on Twitter. Will he end up playing a significant role in the primaries, debates and the election itself, like some of his predecessors have in the past (Rush Limbaugh in 1994 midterms, etc)?

I'm not missing the point. I just disagree with it. As long as they don't hide or deny their personal connection, and are still willing to accurately report on her political positions, funding sources, etc. -- as long as there's transparency and honesty about both the connections and the political positions -- I see nothing wrong with being "chums". If Bri were to get married, would it be wrong for her to invite Bernie Sanders to her wedding? I don't think so -- I think it would be natural and human. It's when connections are hidden and people are pretending to be "neutral" but are not that a real "conflict of interest" exists. (As Bri says, you're welcome to be skeptical of what they say about MW, knowing they are friends, but to act like that's a big crime on their part doesn't make sense to me.)

You should actually watch them sometime. You might learn something. I have. Politics from a working class perspective.

You're missing the point. No one is saying that they can't be friends, or hang out, or go to each other's weddings. The problem is that there they are, chumming it up with a politician who's running for president, someone they're covering on their news shows. It's a blatant conflict of interest.

Did they invite Bernie?

People mad about this are silly. And the guys from “Revolutionary” Blackout Network are friggin’ goofballs. They are a joke. Faux outrage to appeal to the anger crowd.

News flash - people who express their political opinions online know other people who make politics major parts of their lives. Some of them become friends. Some of them even participate in their friends' weddings. As long as they're not hiding that fact (or getting expensive gifts from people affected by their actions and then not disclosing it, like certain judges) I don't see a real problem with that. It's kind of interesting to me to hear Bri and Katie wrestle with their consciences and talk about when and how it can be hard to push back on people they know personally -- that just makes them more human to me. I'm glad they're thinking about it, and appreciate the transparency. I just don't see how going to a friend's wedding (or actually having friends who run in the same professional and political circles as you) is a "bad look."

"There's been controversy brewing on whether is ethical or not for us or other leftist to hang out outside of work" WOW, I wouldn't have expected this strawman from Brie, that's not the controversy at all! The controversy is about Kyle and Krystal (members of the media) inviting a presidential candidate to their wedding. How can people expect them to cover her campaign fairly? Would you be okay with Sean Hannity inviting Trump to a family event? I don't have a problem at all with Brie and Katie attending the wedding as you didn't invite any presidential candidates. Brie, the title of your podcast is supposed to be ironic!

Williamson is a kook. If the Democrats nominate her, her candidacy will open the door to the most brutal forms of fascism still to come. As for the so-called "left media," they are in fact champagne socialists. They are simply unwilling to do the groundwork to build strong coalitions of citizens to stand up for socio-economic rights. They are too busy scraping money off of political discussions. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with such political punditry, but far too many viewers/listeners tend to think that's the be all, end all of politics, when it's really just 1/2 of 1% of the necessary work. As for some elite liberal wedding, this pisses me off. I pay good money for this channel and I don't want to hear these kinds of defenses and flowery language about Democrats.

i think it is about integrity and the project you're working on. are you going to be honest about X as a candidate and politician? or are you going to look the other way and work as PR for X politician? are you being realistic that X has no chance or selling X as the solution? are you going to be up front with your audience about your relationship with X? my understanding is that this show is an "all of the above" strategy for change. i do not have a problem with covering candidates/politicians/elections. i have no faith in the dnc, or electoral-ism. if we can get something out of it, great. my expectations of getting anything are slim to none and i think slim just got up and walked out. i think MW is akin to Ro Khana, says the right stuff, but push comes to shove will fall in line, IF, she ever holds office. I lean RFK Jr, but i will not donate or spend any energy to help him (because of the dnc), except for voting. i think he has almost no chance inside of the democratic party, but i think he could legitimately win as a republican. i don't look for 100% agreement from the shows i watch. i agree a lot with the hosts, but, not all the time. i take perspectives that i hadn't thought of even if i don't agree with their end position. for instance, i used to like Ryan Grimm's reporting, but thought his analysis was terrible. Matt Stoller, i will listen to anything he has to say about corporations and the like. I will ignore him on most everything else, particularly, China. Col. Macgregor, Scott Ritter and Jackson Hinkle, good analysis and coverage of Russia/Ukraine, anything outside of that, nope. As, Frederick Douglas said, "I will unite with anybody to do right and with nobody to do wrong." wasn't there an incident where the dnc and msm got together for someone's big birthday bash a few years ago and it made it in the news? that kinda solidified "the club." i wasn't at all shocked you guys were at the wedding and are friends outside of podcasts. i also remember the Nomiki v Katie episode too (you guys are human and have lives behind the scenes). are the online "progressives" going to turn into the white house correspondents association v2.0? i do think that K n K are the perfect example of the pmc "left" or progressives. i think they are just a distraction looking to enrich themselves. a TYT v2.0, if you will. where as I think you and Katie, don't have the urgency of RBN, but, i do believe you guys are looking to make a change and are more active/genuine about your positions, looking for (working towards) change. just be upfront and honest about your relationship of your guests. like you were with the professor from Stanford(?) the gentleman you knew from childhood. ya know, the thing "....friend of the show..." or "...personal friend..." you replied to a comment above about feeling burnt out (my words), you can start another show. a show about anything other than politics. maybe 1 show every other week. about anything, a show with Katie, rotating guest or no one. (definitely suggest not using the bad faith label). There is an automotive youtuber i used to watch, David Patterson (that dude in blue). He started a 2nd channel that had nothing to do with cars. Abby Martin who does Media Roots Radio and Empire Files started another show called Dosed it is on Call in. it looks like she does cover some politics, but, she covers a lot of other topics too. If you start a 2nd show, it will force you to take time outside of politics. think musicians who start side projects to explore other music. I have no problem with this episode, i like seeing you and Katie chatting, you guys seem like genuine friends, and it works well. i love that your always combative, that is awesome! i feel like i am the same way, but i usually don't act on it. Graham Elwood and Lee Camp have a show Government Secrets, and they usually start with 10 to 15 minutes of catching up. i like it, adds some flavor to the show. someone once said hard on policy and soft on people, i still believe in that approach. keep the faith and keep fighting. (sorry for rambling on and lack of organization.)

The probem isn't that y'all are friends. The problem is that a Presidential candidate that you are supposed to be covering was there hanging out with you, all chummy. No different than beltway journalists going to cocktail parties with politicians and defense contractors. You should be embarrassed.

Can't believe there are ppl mad about this lmao I love ya'll

Dylan

Perception does matter. Optics do matter. Those things affect your credibility.
