When the Hierarchy overran the Seren sector and the spinward portion of Neridi territory, evacuated refugees fled into the interior as the Union forces fell back. The enemy advance was halted along the Golim-Tinza Line, and so this is where the bulk of evacuees ended up. Those with the means resettled farther into the interior, and a few have since returned to the frontier to join the skeleton staffs running important infrastructure at places like Seren and Azimol, but the majority resettled on worlds along this defensive line: the Loroi colonies of Dosaliia and Begalona, the Golim systems, and various Loroi enclaves on Neridi worlds. It has been almost 20 years, so most of them are pretty firmly resettled by this point.

So just to broadly summarize things for the last several pages to make sure I have events right, they basically drove right through the middle of the enemy formation, unleashed torpedos at point blank range while taking broadsides and that has given them enough cover to reach the jump point with an unknown amount of damage? And also in-universe the fastest way to communicate is ships jumping through in transit (like a courier) so on the other side no one (or bug) would have an idea as to what happened? And the first ship that comes through after them still has to deal with jump shock/disorientation.
