Alex is no fool... I'm SURE he turned off the wireless connection..cause there's nothing to contact out there.. and a little data pad is not going to have the juice for a sudden huge wireless footprint and Alex would immediately just turn it off. He doesn't want the Umiak to find him Either!!

It will be interesting to see who was the previous owner: a low-ranking grunt, an officer, technician, or even a diplomat. It could even end up revealing to the loroi humanity's efforts to contact them or the umiak. Keep up the fine work; me wanting to see where the story goes and how useful humans will be is what keeps me coming back.
