Now the questions pops up after reading that, are Loroi a variant of humanity or vice versa? Do the species have any relation? For HIS suit, I suspect it have been taken apart for study by now to help give a hint on exactly how backwards humanity are. If not, preparing it would have been easy, a new faceplate could be installed or a helmet swept from the loot taken from Bellarmine. Communication gear and accessories ports could be given a makeover so they fit the standard within the union but if THAT happened it would be the personal, voluntary pet project of some over ambitious gallen engineer on the Tempest. That would be an interesting surprise if he ever returned there. In other cases eventually when regular contact establish between the human civilization and those of the union a common standard, or interfaces therefore, will be established.

If you wanted to give your alien prisoner a vacuum suit (and that's a big IF), it would probably be safer to give him one of your own rather than trying to repair and recharge a damaged alien suit in the field. As for the transmitter on Alex's suit: both the Loroi and the Umiak picked up his distress signal (he transmitted it on the international "open frequency" as instructed by the Orgus) so... radio is radio.

Even the Umiak don't use tech that out of date respectively..

2018-12-01 09:37:35 +0000 UTCI imagine everyone with a spare hardsuit could be in that, especially if they have umbillicils for continuous recharge. If I were them I'd probably put the c̶a̶r̶g̶o̶ super valuable VIP of an entire new species in one of those for one last layer of redundancy against hard vacuum.
