agree, so seem like we gotta do Utopian propaganda while others do radical worker & neighborhood organizing

How do we use these uprisings and these moments and turn them into teachable moments? How can we educate people in a way to connect the movements to broader material realities that affect so many of us globally? People are pissed, but it seems to me that for a lot of people there is an underlying assumption that there is no alternative to capitalism and that there is no imagination and little to connect the struggle beyond the current situation.

Guy from US here listening to this from my apartment in Ghent. If y'all want to know more about Belgian politics then google friend of the show (I think!?), Anton Jäger. The stuff he's put out dives deep into Belgian working class politics and political formation. Great pod, nice hearing from Brandon, I'll follow his stuff and maybe see him around town. ;)

Brian Brain

Great conversation - I'll definitely be following Brandon's writing going forward. I'll be honest, I was left with the impression that, wow, things are complicated. It's pretty bewildering to go from thinking about the particularities of Belgian politics to theorizing the George Floyd uprisings in about one hour. Chapeau to anyone who can actually do that. You're smarter than me. Let me know what the plan is.

Learned this from helping with the NLG efforts. Folks would call the hotline after these visits.

I would say the uprising fizzled (in Portland at least) under extreme state oppression. Here's the playbook. Go to enough actions and they'd show up at your place with officers from local and federal cops. You give up two of your comrades or they threaten federal charges. Rinse and repeat.
