Backstage pass: Channel progress πŸŽ‰

To those new here I have said in the past that we and you form a team, so I always love sharing top secret channel based updates. And the past few weeks have seen quite a change in the channel's fortunes. Things have always ticked along nicely, taking on new subscribers slowly but surely, however since the more recent Lost KITT and Duel videos, there's been a bit of a seismic shift.

As you can see above, for the first time ever we hit 1 million views of videos in a 28 day period. That's amazing and we're so grateful that the retro oriented treasure hunts have resonated! Who'd have thunk that KITT and a 1970s movie would so popular, but here we are.

The change is most noticeable in subscriber uptake if you look at the last 90 days:

"I can't believe you don't have a million subscribers!"

This is something people kindly comment quite often, however the subject we're all passionate about is also quite niche overall. Channels like The 9-Butt Guy and LGAhhh have been going for over 15 years and deserve their million plus subscriber count. We're still quite young at 5 years of age, but what I can say is that of comparable channels who started around the same time (give or take a year), I'm mindblown to say we're the fastest growing, even outgrowing those who started  before us. That is incredible to me as I was fans of theirs before I ever thought of making a YouTube video, and I continue to be.

A lot of that is no doubt into diversifying the subject matter. Although I've always touched upon subjects outside retrocomputing (time travel, Lego, music, or upscales to name a few), the library has naturally evolved over the 350+ videos to include more retro TV stuff too. Those 2 Duel videos from just a few weeks ago have over half-a-million views now; something I had never thought possible a year or two ago. There will be a Part 3 as... nah I won't spoil anything. That will be coming next year. As will more 80s movie treasure hunts; we're planning a Back to the Future based one right now!

Don't worry though, although that helps the channel prosper and stick around which is only a good thing for everyone, I'll always do retrocomputing/gaming projects in the "Retro Tech & TV" mix. With that Atari 2600+ getting lost in transit I've made a determined effort to finish the Foenix 256K playtest video which I started a couple of months ago, so you'll be seeing that after we deliver the next (biggest ever) The Π―Retro Show in a few days! πŸ‘Ύ

So there you have it; a little progress update on our little channel. Thank you sincerely for all your support. We genuinely still could not come close to doing this without you, and it means a lot that you've had our backs and continue to offer your generosity to Retro Recipes. For our American friends, and everyone, this Thanksgiving we are thankful for that. We consider you all firmly part of Family Fractic. Cheers to you! 🍻

Superb stuff! thanks for the insight

Thanks for caring. That location looked remote, but it's got houses and villages all around, and plenty of cell service. Of course we did perhaps make the edit look a little more dramatic for your entertainment :) But it is part of a movie location company's land. There's no quarrel with David Murray haha. This is friendly jesting. We still chat on the phone fairly regularly and I'm proud to have been part of the X16 project. Thank you for your kind words!

Peri, risking life and limb to scale the cliffs of southern california in search of interesting footage appears to have paid off. But I hope you will pursue future endeavors with more caution and the appropriate hiking gear. A satellite phone should be on your person especially if you need to trek much further out into the desert or wilderness. That said, it's very very cool that your channel has gotten such a great boost. LGR and 8-bit are part of my normal retro diet just as much as your channel. But does Dave know he's been demoted from 9-Bit Guy to 9-Butt guy? Whatever the quarrel is that caused the demotion, my hope is that you'll both hash it out like gentlemen. Anyway many congrats again and can't wait to see more installments of both retro tech and 80s nostalgia. BTW I found this nice remix you may consider for your next KITT or KITTesla episode. Check with the creator for permission but I think you may like the sound of this updated Knight Rider theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZBa8Kvy4ag Take Care Peri, Lady and Baby!
