Early bird: 3D Printing Commodore 64 Cases

Update: Here’s the live premiere link if you’d like to join the live chat when this exciting project goes public on Saturday. Click link for your local time and to set a reminder: https://youtu.be/DnucTE4bYi4

Update: Video updated with detailed price clarification from 10:49

After a few setbacks I'm finally able to share this project, and I'm still blown away by the end result! And of course, the practices here could be applied to any number of retrocomputer cases. I hope you enjoy it!

Video: https://youtu.be/DnucTE4bYi4

The $20 off coupon PCBWay are offering is valid for the first 20 customers meaning as supporters you get first dibs 🎉 All the links are in the video description.

BTW this one includes a Nord VPN integration and if you're a newer supporter, though rare I usually leave those in the supporter versions of videos because I always try to make them entertaining anyway and related to the story, so I feel removing them would actually take something away from you. This one features me many moons ago in Eastenders (British soap) playing the Sandwich Shop Owner!

Thank you for your ongoing support 👍🕹️

Amazing build! :)

Everyone knows PCB stands for Printed Commodore Box.

Looks awesome

Coincidentally I saw Mark Fixes Stuff has an a600 case in the same clear resin from PCB way and I seem to recall him mentioning that the resin they spray the print in adds I little bit extra the size of everything affecting the tolerance for fitting stuff together. So maybe why some stuff may have not fitted correctly? But that said the end result is still bleeping awesome and hopefully will lead to more stuff like that being made. :)

Paul Jacobson

I agree, that is beautiful! A real showstopper, in the good sense.

Glad you liked! Wow imagine a transparent Pontiac Trans Am. One day! And yeah I had one of those watches too but like you no idea what happened to it. I think it had a real radio. The one I'm still trying to find is the squarish Bradley Star Wars watch with Threepio on the face and a TIE fighter LCD sprite that would fly past. Nothing on eBay for months. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wow, what a fantastic result and a great episode too, Peri. Yet another that I’ve really enjoyed. I’ve never gone for the transparent look myself, but this just works so well and was an inspired choice. I’d totally have something like this. Totally? Apparently it’s the 90s over here again… BTW, love the Knight Rider watch! I had one of those when I was a kid. Wish I could remember what happened to it. Next up, transparent Kittesla.

Karl Botragyi

I see what you meme! And thank you.

This is clearly the ultimate C64 case! It looks Way better than any other! Thank you for being transparent about this project! Puns intended! 🤣 Seriously, it looks absolutely amazing! Well done!

Jasonfractic

I have to say, even after spending a few days editing this, I keep coming back to just watch the ending, and going into the ЯR Kitchen to stroke it lovingly!

Almost shed tears. I want one so bad.

Looks amazing - well done. If the original C64 had a clear option back in the day, it would have made spotting dubious looking capacitors easy for us 😉

Lee Volante

I have to say when you put the PCBWay sticker on the lapel pocket of your shirt you looked like a darts player with all their sponsors. :D

Richard Kearney

Wow, what a stunning looking thing!

Mark Elliott

It’s pretty special ✨

OMG I'm so sorry - a genuine oversight on my part and I didn't realise until you just told me. I guess subconsciously I assumed the whole project switched to transparent with the top piece changed, but I didn't consciously work it out. As PCBWay sponsored the item, I didn't actually checkout to have realised this. Let me know your email or username (DM if preferred) on Cults3D and I'll ask Fedor to refund you; no hassle. I'll set about editing the video right now. Thank goodness you noticed that and apologies again! 🙏 P.S. I hope it was clear (I will make it clearer) that you can get non-clear for $105 + tax/shipping, minus the $20 discount, so $85 gross :) You could also choose UTR Therm Translucent Red for around $280+ or UTR Translucent instead of Transparent for $232+, both with a black joystick plate. Lots of options there!

I was floored when you unveiled the PCBWay clear case, on par with your reaction. WOW!

Wave Mechanic

Hi, always love your video's but now I have a firm criticism to make. I think you might wanna be way more clearer with the price. A total transparant resin case will cost you $425 ex shipping ex tax. In the video it shows a lower amount of $280 in the PCBway screen (the last time it appears), since you didn't switch the other big part to transparent yet. Problem is; wish I would have spotted that BEFORE I forked out $18 for the models and having to then find that out afterwards after uploading the files. Since $280 I would have paid albeit a bit hesitantly, but no way I'm paying $425 for it.... so anyone want to buy a brand new set of STLs? Never used.... :(
