Philosophy - Your Personality

Philosophy - Your Personality

I've written several times about why I went with the personality choice system that's currently in the game. I won't go over that again because it feels like I'm repeating the same thing over and over. If you're here, I assume you're fine with the choice system. Like I always say, the choice that matters the most is deciding who you want to be with and I'm giving you that choice.

At this point in the story, there have been some lines in the dialogue affected by the personality choices. You might not have noticed it before because it's one or two lines. For example, Vanessa's father mentions what kind of personality Vanessa says you have based on your interactions with her. It happens in a few other instances.

In Episode 10, there's a bit of a longer scene that plays out depending on what type of dialogue choices you make with Vanessa. When you're talking with Vanessa outside of the Apex office, you don't get to make a dialogue choice for the scene that plays out. The scene plays out based on the dialogue choices you've already made to this point. You might not have noticed it unless you were looking at the code or happened to have different playthroughs.

I can't make all of your choices 'matter' in the way that the story changes. You continue down the path you were always going to go. However, I would like to offer some variance in how you travel down that path. The scene with Vanessa in Episode 10 is just one example of how a scene can play out differently based on your dialogue choices. It's not a big difference and it might not matter to you but it's just a touch of the personality I wanted to add to the story.

I like to think these small things add up and give the story, specifically your relationships, just a bit of personality and character that makes the MC feel a little bit more like you. You've already made a choice. Sometimes there's no need to make it again.

As the story goes on and we get later into the game, there'll be more scenes like this. I can't promise them frequently. And sometimes it might just be a line or two. But if you're really trying to be a joker or smooth or just play it straight with a girl, she's going to notice. Whatever it is you do, just remember to be yourself and say what you want to say.

Did you notice how the scene in Episode 10 played out with Vanessa? Was it in character with how you've interacted with her so far? Have you noticed any of the other lines talking about your personality? Let me know what you think and tell me if you'd like to see more scenes that vary depending on your personality choices.

On Episode 11

The bad news is that Episode 11 is shaping up to be another episode on the shorter side. I had a lot of things planned that I want to do and I'm tightening things up on the big story plots I want to get to. When I make a longer episode, it's not just rendering but the logistics of it all that add to development time. The good news is that a lot of important things happen in this episode despite being shorter. And even more good news is that a shorter episode means that I can finish it sooner.

Having said all that, the general news is that I'm getting through a lot of renders. I've done several scenes so far and everything is slowly starting to take shape. We're still far from a release but I'm deep into development. No time table on anything. I think I should be able to get some previews ready with the first progress update in a couple of weeks.

That's all for now. Thanks for your support, everybody. Any questions or comments, you can always send me a message. I'll never stop thanking you and letting you know how much I appreciate you all. Take care and I'll see you soon.
