Character Profile | Vanessa Kline

I've known what Vanessa looks like for years, so what it was never a big deal for me to see her face. Sometimes I would render her without her shades just to look at her and remind myself of what was there. I'd stare at her and wonder if she was good enough before throwing the render away.

I know that there were a lot of expectations with her. The longer it went, the bigger risk of disappointment. I toyed with the idea of giving her something unique but kept shooting it down every time. I didn't want her to be hiding anything other than what would ordinarily be there. I didn't want it to be a gimmick. I just wanted it to be her.

I went over the scene and reveal several times. I wanted it to have an impact beyond just seeing her eyes. After so much time, I had to get it right. I tried to put myself in your shoes. I tried to imagine I was the MC and how I would feel after seeing her face after so long.

I think Vanessa's pretty just like all of the other girls. That's all subjective though. I hope that for those of you who were looking forward to this weren't disappointed because I truly tried to make it special without it being over the top or silly or random. Seeing her without her shades is one thing. But seeing her without shades in the context of the story is another.

While this is a big step for you and her, this is only one step in your relationship with Vanessa. There's a lot more to her than just the shades. By the time Vanessa's story reaches its end, seeing her face will be just one milestone among others.

On a related note, I'm looking forward to rendering her without having to hide everything constantly. It's nice to finally be able to share another side of this character with you. While showing Vanessa's face was a big deal, I have a lot planned for every character as you learn more about them. I hope you enjoy everybody's story as much as I enjoy telling it.
